Special-edition BMW Alpina offered at almost double the $137,595 suggested price

By MATT DAVIS

The Z8-based Alpina BMW Roadster V8 that marks the final year of Z8 production will start at $137,595, as we reported in January, but the actual selling price is likely to far exceed that sticker.

An Alpina spokesperson said, for instance, that one potential customer contacted BMW and said an unnamed BMW dealer in Orange County, California, was offering the Alpina for a nonnegotiable price of $270,000. Of the final run of 450 Alpina-touched Z8s, 350 have already been sold.

I think the thinking is resale value 10 years from now. These guys buy these cars like bonds.

Yes, it's the first Alpina version slower than the BMW version. Well it is an auto instead of a manual. It has 20s instead of 18s and a softer suspension.
