Side Indicators that blink!

OK, per the poll, I did hook up the side amber LED indicators to blink in both the parking lights ON and OFF modes per Option 4 (blink in sync with the front blinker, and out of sync with the front blinker when the parking lights are on.

I can make a movie showing how they work, but can not post, so if someone can host, let me know, otherwise I think photos may be useless.

No reason Acura could not have done this!

Well, to make a long story short, everyone has complained that the LED side markers just in front of the front doors (rear of the front fenders) do not blink like euro cars do, (and there are no mirror blinkers as in the TSX as indicated in early window stickers and the TL borchure)

So, I kept the stock look of the lights (on with the parking lights, off in the day) and added the ablility for them to blink when the turn signals are on, just like euro cars do.

Hope this helps, and hope to have the video posted tommorow, thanks to help from virus7

Is it even legal for a car to NOT have side turn indicators?

The front headlights on the TL can be seen from the side.

Seems like you may have a little money maker in your hands? You could put a kit together with instructions and sell them to board members and branch out from there?? I know lots of people would buy them.... Nice job by the way, I think it makes look europenish

Great idea - burn your installation movie on a cd and sell it - i'd buy.

It is quite euro looking now.

I will say though (as I have in the past), in direct sunlight, the amber LED's are barely visable.

with indirect light, twilight and night, they work well.

One of the side benifits of doing this was that I got to see the plumbing for the cold air intake and found that the horns are mounted in the wheel wells, just behind the head lights (instead of in the bumper or in front of the radiator, that is why the horn is soo loud!).

A kit with instructions and wire colors to cut, splice into is easy to do. Just need the time to do it.

The Videos

Here are the two video clips (very sweet mod):

With Parking Lights On

Without Parking Lights On

Note: I am hosting these off my ISP hosting service, if we for some reason go over my allowed bandwidth, PM me and I can move them over to my webserver (d/l will just be slower).

Thanks!!!

Virus7, your the man! That was quick!!!!

Thanks for hosting!

For everyone else, notice that the LED's turn on and off quicker than the front blinker (this is becuase LED's have no filament towarm up, cool down time and are instant on, off).

Also, the video showing they stay on with parking lights on and blinker off was not included to save bandwidth, but they do work like stock in that mode.

np need4spd.

Does the TL have a cornering light? My parents '95 maxima, when the turn signal was on would illuminate the area where you were turning. It was very nice and I think would have been nice in the TSX as I think turning at night is more difficult due to the fatty A pillar and the way the HIDs illuminate.

Virus7, no cornering light, I had a 96 Maxima SE 5spd from new just before getting the TL, I know what you mean, they did help.

What you see in the movies is what you get. The fogs in the TL do help your side vision though.

I love cornering lamps. My 96 Maxima SE 5MT also had them.

By the way, nice job need4spd.

This is a safety feature. What was Acura thinking when they did this?!

Granted, you can see the signaling from the side via the headlights since they wrap around the sides, but they threw in friggin Bluetooth and a kickass sound system, yet the side lights don't blink. Go figure.

Yes, but you can not see the wrap around from the rear 3/4 view.

Hmmm. What kind of light is on newer Buicks? When the turn signal is on, there is this ultra bright light that shines in the direction the person is turning....it is almost blinding to other drivers. If this is a "cornering lamp" then they remind of something my grandma would want...hence Buick.

Circuits posted

OK, I admitt I have been surfing more than the a-tsx.com site for the TL.

I still come back here for the great info and people.

Today, at a-tl.com myself and I-mod posted information on the circuits we use to create our side markers to flash.

I-Mod and I posted our circuits and some photos of the install at:

http://www.imagestation.com/album/?i...97&mode=invite

We both have different circuits, but both do the same job.

Please note that you will hear the blinker click a little louder if you do the mod, as now the relays in the fenders will be clicking on and off too (but it is not too loud).

Please ask any questions.

Virus7, Thanks for hosting the movies!!!!! Hope the bandwidth was not too much!

You could put blue LED's in the interior door handle alcoves so that at night passengers can see the handles like in some other cars. you can drill small holes in the plastic parts so the LED shines at a side angle (so not to point out at you) and hook the wires to the window switches as they light with the parking/head lights and stay on up to 10 min after the engine is shut off/or until a door is opened!

Thanks again! You can take the movies down whenever you want!

Yes, I have them on my '95 Maxima. One time, I pulled up a bit far toward the road when stopped and making a left turn. The car coming from that side flashed his brights at me. I guess the cornering lamps can be pretty bright. I was more careful not to pull up too far after that, not wanting to blind somebody.

OK guys- how much would you pay for this mod (labor included)?

I'd pay $250.
