Scion: xB news **Discontinued (page 4)**
The Scions are all about dealer-installed aftermarket mods, but this Scion xB has a few tricks of its own: a Valor cat-back exhaust system, 17-in. Primax wheels, a TRD aftermarket turbo, TRD lowering springs and Pioneer audio upgrades and Safariland seat covers and other interior upgrades.

2003 SEMA: Scion considers a no-paint option to give tuners 'blank canvas'
By RICHARD TRUETT | Automotive News
With its funky advertising campaigns and ads in offbeat magazines, Toyota's upstart Scion division refuses to play by the rules.
And at this week's Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas, where vehicles with loud, outrageous paint jobs usually get much of the attention, Scion will break another rule.
The division will show an xA hatchback covered only with dull gray primer.
Scion executives are considering offering a primer finish as an option for the xA and xB, which are becoming popular vehicles for California tuners and customizers.
"As much as possible, we want to give them (tuners) a blank canvas," says Jim Farley, Scion general manager.
People who visit Scion's SEMA display will be asked whether they would be interested in getting vehicles without paint.
Scion will use that information to help determine what the demand might be for a nonpainted vehicle.
Farley says no timetable has been set to decide on whether to offer paintless models.
Bringing a nonpainted vehicle to market is more complex than just yanking a vehicle off the production line before it reaches the paint shop, he says.
Toyota is studying several technical and logistical issues.
Two questions are how nonpainted vehicles would disrupt the production flow and who would install the trim parts that are applied after the paint.
Scion is trying to determine whether the customer or dealer should be responsible for installing the trim parts.
Also in question is whether parts would be put inside the vehicle at the factory or installed and re-moved when the vehicle is painted.
Farley says he believes nonpainted Scions could have big potential, even though they would likely cost more than painted models.
He says many tuners sand off and paint over the factory finish anyway. A nonpainted vehicle would save tuners time and give them more freedom to create their own designs.
Tuners are an independent lot who "don't want the factory to do everything," Farley says.
This summer, Scion launched in California with two vehicles, the xA and xB.
The xA is a small, European-styled hatchback, while the boxy xB is a small sport wagon devoid of any sporty pretensions.
The xB has handily outsold the xA, so much so that Toyota is trying to boost production to meet demand.

Toyota...Lets make a new brand for the young people...to make it easier for them to afford a NEW car. Then, once they get popular lets slowly jack up the prices...
I call this "drug dealers mentality"
This is defeating the whole idea of the new marque to being with.

I really like that stereo upgrade. I am pretty happy with mine though. $2300 over msrp isn't bad at all for the options. Mine ran 14.8 w/ upgraded stereo w/ipod integration and trunk/floor mats. I might have been swayed to get this one had it been out a month ago.

Next Gen. Scion xB **Unveiled (page 2)**
Spy Shots: 2008 Scion xB - - Source: The Car Connection
Scion's hot-selling xB is due to be redesigned soon, and the replacement vehicle is expected to be larger than the current model. This photo captures a prototype mule, obviously based on the current xB, but stretched, which seems to confirm that the new xB will be at least a few inches longer than today's car. -Antoine Guilbaud/Hidden Image
