Saturn Aura News **Official Website Updated (page 5)**
Spy Shots: ’07 Saturn Aura - - Spy Shots: ’07 Saturn Aura - - by KGP Photography - - Source: The Car Connection
At this January's North American International Auto Show, Saturn showed hints of its new design language with its Aura concept - a European-inspired sport sedan destined to replace the dowdy L- Series. These spy shots show the Aura in its real-world, production-ready form, and it's clear that the handsome design has survived unscathed.
The concept's flared wheel arches and the chiseled side skirts have been toned down slightly in this production prototype. And although this prototype is missing its rear bumper, it's evident that its exhaust has been routed to the left, as opposed to the concept's sexy, dual center- mounted exhaust pipes. The Aura concept car rode on 19-inch wheels, and although that's certainly too ambitious for production, the prototype still maintains a strong stance.
If the production Aura gets the concept's Cadillac-derived 250-hp 3.6-liter V-6, variable valve timing, and six-speed automatic transmission, Saturn may finally have a car that can garner attention in the world of Camry and Accord.

Yes, yeesss. I'm looking at this car with great attention. The fact that the production will remain almost completely untouched is excellent news. The real thing to watch is if it does get the concept's excellent drivetrain. I think car can do what the Malibu and G6 has failed to do... give GM a car that genuinely gives Camry and Accord a run for their money. If it's done right, this would be the car I'd buy if shopping in this class.

The car definately looks nice. A little pontiac-ish...but more style.
If Saturns design keep following this trend (aura/sky) and GM can turn them around, since the whole idea of Saturn kinda sizzled, then I think GM might decent competeing car line.

Actually if it got the the GM 3600 powertrain (i.e.: CTS V6, topend Buick LaCrosse) I'd be pretty impressed. That's as good as it gets with GM V6 engines.

And by 2007 won't the new generation Accords and Camrys be ready to roll?

From what I've heard, even for 06 the Accord is getting a modest bump to 250hp. If Honda got really worried about GM winning the horsepower wars, they could just stick the J32A4 in the Accord and detune it a little so it's not as fast as the TL, or something. Or bore the TL out to 3.3L and give it some sort of AWD. I'm guessing the Aura will suffer from Altima-like torque steer if it turns out to be FWD.

Back on topic, I hear you bigman. But, I'm willing to bet that the 3600 is a far more refined motor than the 3800SC. But either one should result in fairly good straightline performance. And a 3800 SC with some GTP mods would make the Aura a 12-13 second monster.

Don't think GM has to play catch up with this car at all(considering we have seen nothing). Sure Toyota and Honda are coming out with 'refreshes', but this car will be brand new when those refreshes hit the street. The current gen camry and accord are no all stars in the looks department so theres no guarantee the refreshes will be either, not overly impressed with the new avalon either.
2nd if this was really about hp wars, GM would walk all over Honda and Toyota. Gm has plenty of experience with high power fwd's: DTS v8, STS v8, GTP, Monte carlo SS, and endless concept performance fwds.

GM Six-Speed Coming in Aura - - Source: The Car Connection
GM's other joint venture in Detroit will produce a new six-speed automatic that will appear in the 2007 Saturn Aura sedan, the company announced on Thursday. The new gearbox will be known as the Hydra-Matic 6T70 in its GM iteration; it's being co-developed with Ford Motor Company, which is expected to put versions in its new mid-size and large sedans in the 2007 model year. The gearbox has been designed with front-drive and all-wheel drive, and transversely-mounted engines in mind, and could deliver a four-percent fuel-economy boost to some vehicles compared to GM's current crop of four-cylinder automatics. Tiptronic-style shifting has been built into the gearbox's electronics.

For a second there, I thought they meant 6-speed manual and I thought wow, they are serious about this sporty image, but I guess this is decent news too. Wonder if the new camry will have a 6-speed or if the US brands will be the first ones with it for a few years.

Why, what right has saturn earned to stand next to an acura TL, this aura will be lucky if if it stands near a tsx.
