Saab 9-3 SportCombi
NEW SAAB 9-3 SPORTCOMBI: SATISFYING WANTS AND MEETING NEEDS .... The new Saab 9-3 SportCombi takes Saab into the premium, mid-size wagon segment for the first time by combining distinctive design with sporty driving dynamics as an alternative to the qualities of a conventional wagon. The strong, compact proportions of the 9-3 SportCombi are a bold reaffirmation of Saab's tradition for designing cars that are sporty in character and versatile in use.
The 9-3 SportCombi features all-new bodywork from the B-pillar rearwards, including doors, the rear seat and a well-proportioned cargo deck, while retaining the frontal and interior styling of the Sport Sedan, together with its wheelbase and outstanding chassis dynamics. Sales of the 9-3 SportCombi will start in September. The model line-up includes six gasoline and two Euro 4 compliant diesel engine options.
Last year, Europe's growing premium mid-size wagon segment reached a quarter of a million units, with diesel engines accounting for 70 percent of sales. Saab's new 9-3 SportCombi is poised to open up major new sales opportunities for Saab among conquest and existing customers

The only thing that bothers me is that this SportCombi is introduced at almost the mid-cycle of the current 9-3 generation. So how long will it be before Saab comes out with a brand new generation of 9-3? Or does Saab tend to have a very long cycle for each generation?

And I agree...they should be thinking about a model refresh by now...seems silly to bring it out now.

I dunno, the 9-3 is a nice looking car exterior wise, but when I sat in one a coworker just bought, I immediately had a feeling come over me that this is crap for a luxury car. Only way to put it is it reminded me of an american luxury car inside, lacked refinement to surpass a lot of standard midsize sedans.

Aero-X inspired 9-3 to arrive in 2007...?
if the rumors are true...!
From Leftlanenews...
From Leftlanenews...
The first influences of the Saab Aero-X concept will appear in a production car in mid-2007, according to a published report. The Aero-X is widely believed to be the design basis for all future Saabs, though the car itself is not expected to see production.
According to TrollhättanSaab, the 2008 Saab 9-3 will be a re-skin of the existing model with more aggressive styling borrowed from the Aero-X. The car will be shown in June, and make its U.S. debut in August, according to the report.
Meanwhile, Edmunds is reporting the 9-3 will get a complete redesign in mid-2009. That car will reportedly be built on the Epsilon 2 architecture, according to supplier sources cited by the publication.

^ Great news. The Aero X is an awesome concept. I can't wait to see the next gen 9-3. It's a shame the Aero X won't be built. It'd make a great Halo for the Saab brand.

2008 Saab 9-3 Spy Shots - - by Brenda Priddy (2007-02-12) - - Source: The Car Connection
Obviously inspired by the Aero X Concept that we've seen on the auto-show circuit, Saab is giving the 9-3 mid-size sedans and wagons a new front end.
As seen here, the updated 9-3 will be sporting a larger and somewhat more aggressive grille with one huge center section flanked by two smaller air intakes, one on each side.
As found on the 9-5, we expect to see a bit of chrome in the grille, and on the upper edges of the headlamps. The bumpers, front and rear, will get a little makeover too, mainly characterized by the missing rubber strips which are lacking on the doors as well. This, together with new door handles, will give the 9-3 an even more elegant look.
We're expecting an official launch of the 2008 models in time for Saab's 60th anniversary celebration this coming summer.

....and it resembles a hearse from from the front angle. Looks like Saab managed to uglify a fairly nice looking 9-3.

The current 9-3 is a nice looking car - just needs more drivetrain and interior refinement.

The 08 facelift does not make it any better... it's just different. I prefer the current style actually...
The thing that would really get me serious about considering a 9-3 is AWD. Esp. in this awful blizzard here in Cleveland.... sigh.....

dang. they totally went in the OPPOSITE design direction that i was hoping they would go. instead of making the nasty looking 9-5 look like the 9-3, they make the 9-3 look like the 9-5. gross.

Saab 9-3 Turbo X news
Quoted from Autoblog...
Though scheduled to debut next Tuesday at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, the special edition Saab Turbo X has arrived a bit early courtesy of one particular Swede-o-phile over at Trollhattansaab.net. Actually, only three more images have arrived, but in addition to the front teaser shot that Saab had already released, the new pics show the car from the rear, as well as its exclusive blacked-out interior.
To refresh, the Saab Turbo X will debut the automaker's new XWD all-wheel drive system from Haldex. It's capable of dividing power between the front and rear wheels, but also from side to side in the rear thanks to a new electronic slip differential. Saab's 2.8L turbocharged V6 has been worked over for duty in the Turbo X and now produces 280 hp, up from 255, and 295 ft-lbs. of torque. Trollhattan reports that it will be good for a 5.7 second sprint to 62 mph, which makes it one of the fastest Saabs we've ever heard of.

Its so sexy..... I <3 sleeper AWD turbo sedans. IWHI for sure. Steering wheel is kinda bland but looks beefy, and the center console is awkward looking but otherwise, it looks good inside.
Kinda reminds me of the 3G TL-S, in the respect that I'll have to reserve judgment on the tails, and the wtf-were-they-thinking wheels.
