A Porsche representative told Germany's Welt am Sonntag that the company is considering a "fifth model" after the introduction Panamera. This statement is somewhat confusing because the Panamera would be Porsche's fifth model. Porsche's lineup currently includes the 911, Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne. However, if Porsche considers the Boxster and Cayman Cayenne to be the same model line, then this might indicate a new model is indeed under consideration. What would that model be? There have been rumors recently of a "baby Cayenne," but what enthusiasts are really interested in is the proposed revival of the Porsche 928. Road and Track recently said a new 928 (shown right) could come in 2010.

The old boxster was a 986... The "new" boxster is a 987 as is the cayman... so they can be considered the cab (convertible) and coupe version of the same model (987)... Cab and Coupe versions of a 911 share the same internal designation also.
It'll be interesting if they call it a 928, since that internal designation was already used by the front v8 engined RWD 928 already...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_928
Since the Panamera is a front v8 engined rwd sedan, it would make sense to have a coupe version of the car... So revival of the 928 doesn't suprise me...

Porsche 928 news...
OMG OMG...! That's awesome news!

This week, spies at Porsche's test center in Germany reported seeing a prototype vehicle wearing a 1995 Porsche 928 body, but with heavy modification and a pile of measurement equipment inside. The car appeared to be a testbed for a new platform, with a wider stance than the old 928. As many enthusiasts know, 928 was a front-engine V8 grand tourer that Porsche built between 1978 and 1995. Following Porsche's announcement that it plans to build a front-engined four-door coupe called the Panamera in 2009, speculation began that the automaker could also offer a two-door version of the vehicle. In February, Road and Track reported that Porsche would build such a car for the 2010 model year — a 12 months after the Panamera goes on sale. In March, a Porsche spokesperson told Germany Welt am Sonntag that the automaker was considering a fifth model to follow the Panamera.

Spy Shots: ‘09 Porsche Panamera, GT Coupe - - by Hans Lehmann/Hidden Image - - Source: The Car Connection
Porsche is testing a set of prototypes that not only show the Panamera sedan on a quick course for development-they also suggest that the sportscar maker is planning a fifth model line along the lines of the former 928 coupe.
....
Also shown here are the very first pictures of a potential fifth Porsche model. Expected to debut in 2010, the new model is a front-engined two GT coupe, very much in the tradition of the previous 928. Today the 928's niche is dominated by the Ferrari 599 GTB, Bentley Continental GT, Mercedes SLR, BMW M6 and Aston Martin V8 Vantage.
The GT Coupe will be spawned directly by the Panamera saloon and share at least 60 percent of its parts with the four-door car, including a shortened version of its platform, its engines, transmissions and suspension. Engines are expected to include a range of normally aspirated and turbocharged V-8s and V-10s from 4.0 to 6.0 liters, producing from 300 to 650 hp. It is unlikely that all-wheel drive will be adopted for the Panamera and the GT Coupe.
Our exclusive spy pictures show the GT Coupe as a rather wacky test mule wearing the skin of an old 928, with considerably wider suspension (note the flared wheel arches), stuffed with costly measurement gear and equipped with trick development technical gear. The prototype is equipped with externally mounted, oversize engine intake and exhaust mufflers, along with externally mounted radiators.

WTf?!!! I can somehow agree you not liking Porsches(which is,I must say, very strange) but the last time I checked Porsche was an independent company and not owned by VW as mentioned by you...Shouldnt you be more careful whilst giving comments?!

Get ready for a blast from Porsche’s past! The German firm is developing a luxurious, front-engined grand tourer – a spiritual successor to the 928 built between 1977 and 1995. The ‘new 928’ will be a fifth model line, and is designed to sit above the sportier 911 in the range.
With the compact Boxster and Cayman, the 911, the Cayenne SUV and four-door Panamera, Porsche would appear to have most bases covered. But it’s notable for its absence in the front-engined GT segment. The newcomer will allow the brand to take on rivals such as the Ferrari 599 GTB, Bentley Continental GT and Aston Martin DB9. And our exclusive pictures show exactly why the curvy, Panamera-based coupé is set to stun the competition.
Essentially it’s a two-door, short-wheelbase version of the Panamera, which will help to spread the £1.1billion development costs of that model. Its front-engined layout has a number of inherent benefits, too.
A rear-engined 911 has barely more than 100 litres of luggage space, but a similarly sized GT with its motor up front would offer a useful 320 litres – a vital attribute if the new 928 is to be taken seriously as a grand tourer.
While the nose is virtually identical to the Panamera, the shortened wheelbase and 2+2 layout mean the 928 features far smoother lines at the back. One of the major criticisms levelled at the four-door Panamera was its bloated rear, but this model’s muscular haunches and neater proportions should attract a new wave of style-conscious customers.
As you’d expect from Porsche, though, driver appeal remains a top priority. The engine line-up will mirror that of the Panamera, so a 4.8-litre V8, with or without a turbocharger, producing 500bhp or 400bhp, will be available. The naturally aspirated variant is set to come with four or rear-wheel drive, while the range-topping turbo model will be 4WD only.
Thirsty V8s aren’t the only power units on the agenda. The Cayenne SUV hybrid is ready to go on sale next year, with a petrol-electric version of the Panamera following closely behind. As the new 928 shares the latter’s platform, it’s sure to get the hybrid drivetrain, too.
An Audi S4-sourced 369bhp 3.0-litre supercharged V6, coupled to a 38kW electric motor, will give the hybrid 928 fuel economy that breaks the 30mpg barrier. That will make it the most frugal petrol-powered Porsche ever, while still providing hair-raising performance.
The 928 will slot into Porsche’s pricing line-up somewhere between the 911 and Panamera. The four-door ranges from £70,000-£95,000, while the 911 starts a little lower, at just over £60,000, but stretches to £128,000 for the GT2.
With this is mind, expect the 928 to be pitched between £65,000 and £90,000 – enough to safely undercut its Ferrari and Aston rivals when it goes on sale in 2012.

That rear end better not end up looking like that.
It's needs a more "porsche" looking rear end.
If they fix that, I think I will like it!
