Hmm, I don't like the huge feders. I hope it's not taking design cues from the new Dodge Ram

Redesigned Toyota Tundra pickup bulks up - - Dale Jewett - - SOurce: Automotive News

CHICAGO -- Tired of getting sand kicked in its face by pickups from Ford, General Motors and Dodge, the Toyota Tundra was sent to the gym.

What emerges for the 2007 model year is a bigger, beefier pickup, with styling that takes its cues from the FTX concept truck from 2004.

The 2007 Tundra was unveiled Thursday morning at the Chicago Auto Show.

When it goes on sale about a year from now, here's what buyers will find:

A bigger truck. The Tundra's wheelbase has been stretched 10 inches to 138.3 inches on the standard cab. The wheelbase on the Double Cab is 150.5 inches. The overall length grows about the same amount, ranging from about 228 to 240 inches.

A new 5.7-liter V-8 joins the engine lineup. That engine should make more than 300 hp and be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. It will join the current engines - a 4.0-liter V-6 that was rated at 236 hp for 2006 and a 4.7-liter V-8 that was rated at 271 hp.

Towing capacity rated at more than 10,000 pounds.

Three trim levels - base, SR5 and Limited - and three cab configurations, including the Double Cab.

The options list will include a rearview backup camera and Bluetooth connectivity for cellular telephones.

Toyota will build the redesigned Tundra at plants in Princeton, Ind., and San Antonio.

Ehh. Atleast it's a true full sized truck now. I don't really like the shape of the grill, or the small lights. But it does have an aggressive face. I like the interior alot; something fresh and different. Interesting choic for the top engine. The've beaten Nissan's displacement by .1L and I'm sure the HP will be just enough to top Nissan's output as well.

The overall truck looks very promising, although I don't like the dash's odd design elements. I'd have to see it in person to make a finally judgment on the interior but from the pics I don't like it so far.

BTW, I like the idea of being able to store files in the armrest. It’s definitely going to be a contractor’s best friend.

I want to see one next to an F150, because it sounds like it would dwarf one. Should be a good seller.

I doubt it'll dwarf an F-150, the biggest model of the new Tundra is 240" just four more inches longer then the F-150 and the wheelbase of the LWB Tundra and F-150 versions are both the same at 150.5".

I smell a winner. Or at least another reason not to buy a Titan.

GM's new offerings should be interesting come the fall.

GM Pickup's > * IMO.

I agree. This may very well be a winner. Though, I like the Titan also. Like you said, the biggest splash will be GM's trucks in the fall. They're not class leading anymore, but that'll probably change in six months with the new ones.

We've probably already seen most of the new Silverado in the 2007 Avalanche specs/looks.

i like the new look a lot- but im unsure on the dash layout as well. The stereo/climate controls look like they're closer to the passenger than the driver. Oh and THREE cupholders, bitch.

Yeah it won't dwarf a F-150 by any means. By the numbers, they will look to be about identical in size, in real life. 4" is nothing on a truck this big.

Meh, Toyota gets an A for the distinctive look, but I don't like the design. I'm not liking Toyota's 'frowning' grille and emphasized snout that they're putting on their SUVs and trucks lately. The interior is nice, though I think Ford's F-Series trucks have a better designed interior.

Have to see it in person, the one thing I see that I also don't like on the Tacoma is that silver plastic trim around the grill. Wish they had a sport model that made everything on the truck body color.

damn, look at the space in between the seats!! really gives you an idea about how big this thing is.

and, I like the dash, a fresh look for trucks of this size.

Lightbulb B-Series

http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/displayPage.action?pageParameter=modelsMain&vehicl eCode=TRK

They apparently still make the B-Series .. as 4 the Tundra, what is that behind the gear shift? A coin holder?

That thing is monsterous - clearly Toyota is not playing. I guess they had no choice after all those Toyota vs Ford commercials last year where they basically insulted each other.

I think it's just a storage area for anything that'll fit. But that center console looks very useful.
