But then what's the point of having so much HP and torque if the traction control is working full time to brake the brakes, cut the power and reduce the torque. Once the traction control starts to intervene, the car will become slower. I bet the same FWD GTP with a V6 can outrun the FWD GTP V8.

Also, unless the conditions are adverse or they launch very hard, the traction will be there when they punch it at 40 MPH to merge onto the highway.
However, I agree that the blown GTP could probably run with the V8.

That's exactly why the CTS-V is no FWD.
Hey Pontiac has managed for a number of years to almost eliminate torque steer on the FWD 3.8L supercharged Grand Prix GTP wich produces 240-260HP and 280lbs torque. They did a better job than Nissan whose high powered Altima and Maxima are reported to have pretty bad torque steer. So I have faith that the new V8 Grand Prix will have torque steer under control.
But it would be even nicer if the V8 Grand Prix were an AWD.

The GTP with a smaller pulley will move on the GTX, but the most i have seen anyone pull out of the 3.8 GTP is mid-high 12's while keeping drvability and durability. Now the 5.3 is an awesome motor in the wrong car. It has excellent flowing heads. The heads are so good that Z06 and ls1 guys use ported versions of the 5.3 head all the time. With mods, this car will be a beast. And although traction is an issue, the SRT-4 doesnt have problems hitting 12's on street tires.
