Wow... the coupe has a real G35 coupe profile thing going on... it's nice though. I like it. I bet it'll sell really well; it's much nicer than the new Malibu to me.

They should drop the middle engine option. The ecotec with 170hp is a nice 4 cyl. Pontiac wants to be the "sporty" division; they should over the 3.9 V6 with 240 hp as the only 6 cly. option.

Reasons for the other engine:
Less expensive
Less gas consumption
Great low end torque
Because less expensinve, they can tell customers that walk in the dealers: "and you get a V6 for the same price that the competition offers 4s in their cars"

G6 update and pricing - - Source: Autospies
Pontiac Announces 2005 G6 Sedan Pricing
Detroit - General Motors' Pontiac Division today announced introductory pricing for the Pontiac G6 sedan, an all-new vehicle that delivers total performance, style and refinement. Sales of the G6 sports sedan begin in September 2004.
Pricing for the G6 sports sedan will begin at $21,300 manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP), which includes destination charges of $625. The 2005 G6 GT will be priced at $23,925, which includes destination charges of $625. Pricing for the 2006 GTP Sedan and two other G6 family members, a 2+2 sport coupe and a retractable hardtop convertible will be announced at a later date when production begins next year.
"The G6 is a key part of Pontiac's ongoing renaissance," said Jim Bunnell, general manager for Pontiac-GMC. "We're proud of our new, very nicely equipped 'volume car.' Innovative features and great styling will attract drivers, the ride and handling will excite them."
The G6 6-cylinder and GT models that will debut this fall are powered by a 200-horsepower 3.5L V-6 and controlled by a smooth-shifting, electronically controlled four-speed overdrive transmission. A class-leading 112.3-inch wheelbase contributes to a comfortable ride while maintaining responsive handling.
G6's interior refinement features a sports car cockpit with intuitively placed controls, race-inspired instrumentation, performance driving position, and rear-seat legroom usually found in a larger car. One of the G6's most innovative features is the panoramic roof, a four-section sunroof that opens to nearly twice the area of a typical sunroof and gives even rear seat passengers an open air experience, which will be available for $1500. This feature is a Pontiac segment exclusive in the North American Market.
The G6 will be manufactured at GM's Orion Township Assembly Center in Orion, Mich.

2005 G6 Sedan ------ $21,300
2005 G6 GT Sedan --- $23,925

Okay... that's not that pricey. The $21,3000 base price is for the G6 with a V6. They're debuting the car with a V6 engine only, and introducing a 4cyl. option later. I don't think that $21K for a V6 is pricey, though. The GT verysion offers alot of bang for the buck.

I tell ya. If the interior controls feel as good as the latest Impala's I drove last month... Although the design is totally GM-like, they felt sa precise as that of a Lexus. Interesting strides at GM on various, previously weak respects.

I guess adding chrome rings around everything means upscale interior. It is another GM improvement though. Exterior looks ugainly. I liked the old one better than this.

Give me an old Grand Am GT or Grand Prix GTP any day over the current models.

this car is a malibu in pontiacs clothing. It has the high, big headlights and the fat ass of a malibu. I wish companies would make their cars a little more different.

Spy Shots: ’06 Pontiac G6 Coupe/Conv. - - Outdoing the Oprah factor, one hardtop convertible at a time. - - by Brenda Priddy - - Source: The Car Connection
Oprah isn't the only one showing off the new Pontiac G6. But Oprah only had the sedans, and we've caught the upcoming convertible and coupe versions.
The sporty coupe will reach dealerships in early 2005, but the convertible will not make its retail appearance until the third quarter of 2005 as a 2006 model.
The convertible, with an annual projection of 40,000 sales, will be equipped with a retractable hardtop, much like those on models priced far more expensively. No word on powerplants, but a V-6 with at least 250 hp is expected.

^ I agree. The sedan's end looks way to much like the Cobalt. The coupe's rear is more palatable to me... but it does copy to closely to the Solara. The profile of the coupe reminds me of the G35c. Doesn't having a coupe AND hardtop convertible defeat the purpose? I could see the coupe being necessary if the convertible was a ragtop. There must be a big gulf in prices to justify both models, I guess. If the coupe is priced right, Pontiac will sell A TON of the coveritbles.
