Nissan Teana News **Avalon Fighter Spied (page 1)**

Spy Shots: ’07 Nissan Teana - - Is it a mule or an Avalon fighter? - - by KGP Photography - - Source: The Car Connection

These spy photos reveal what appears to be a new large sedan destined for Nissan's model-range - essentially a competitor for the Toyota Avalon - testing in the Southwest desert. This prototype is clearly based on the Japanese-market Nissan Teana, a large sedan that slots in just below the Nissan Fuga in Japan (the U.S. version of the Fuga is the Infiniti M35/M45).

The key here is that this prototype is left-hand drive (LHD). The Teana is only available in right-hand drive for the Japanese market, and its interior is an old-school design that has some older Buick overtones. This prototype has been changed to LHD, making it suitable for the U.S. market, and our interior shot shows that its dashboard has been redesigned to resemble the current models in Nissan's U.S. lineup.

This Teana-based prototype retains the Japanese-model's quirky styling, which combines the side-window design from the Infiniti M35/M45 with a Maxima-like front fascia and a rear end that mimics BMW's rump-hump found on the new 5- and 7-Series.

Judging from the extensive repackaging of the interior to left-hand drive, it appears that this car is being readied for the U.S. market. So why create such a car to slot in above the Maxima? Toyota has adopted a similar strategy with its Avalon, and it appears that Nissan is attempting a similar attack - adapting an up-market (Infiniti) platform to get a piece of the large, near-luxury-cruiser market.

Can't anyone come up with their own rear end styling. The Japanese have completely ripped off BMW.

the first pic looks like a G35, the second pic shows that it has the same interior as every other nissan, and the third makes it look like the love child of a 7 series and a maybach

I'm hoping/thinking its a redesigned Maxima with just the Teanna body as a disguise considering they are the same size car. The interior, the way the center vents are lined up with a large hole in the middle(for nav) and then radio under that, and then hvac controls right underneath reminds me exactly of what the 05 ALtima got for an interior refresh. Also, the interior being Nissan like inside rules out an I-series and I don't think there is enough room for two fullsize Nissans especially considering the Teanna isn't that great looking; possible 2006/7 Maxima.

I can't see both a Teana and Maxima. Answer to the Avalon seems to be the destinity of this thing. Will it make the local Police force squad car?

Is this RWD?
If not, I don't see the need for it to exist in Nissan lineup. Hasn't maxima already morphed into a boat like Avalon?

This car has been on sale as a MAXIMA in Australia for some time already, I saw them out there back in December.

They already have the Teana in "LH" drive version in CHina, so I don't see why they need an "extensive" redesign of the interior.

Just use the Chinese market teana, duh.

I can't even say they just all look alike and they come in different sizes. All the Nissans/Infinitis are the same size and look identical.

Seems the usual class low interior. Did they even look at the new Avalon?

I agree, as far as the profile goes. The greenhouse and side glass are just like the M's (and Maxima's) because in Japan it's slotted right under the Fuga. It makes sense there, but I have a problem with it here because I think there should be more differentiation between the Nissan and Infiniti produtcst (styling wise). Someone who doesn't know better might think that the M is based off of the Maxima, or vice versa.

Oh, I defintiely can. The Maxima name is so entrenched with a sporty sedan image that it'd be crazy to mess with that. Whether everyone thinks it's a "pig" or a "boat" is of no consequence, because in the eyes of the consumer it's an affordable, entry lux sports sedan. It's extremely popular here (in New Orleans). If the Teena's introduced, which could easily out plush the Avalon and/or ES330 and compete with them head to head, it gives the Maxima room to revert back to a sports sedan in purer form (like it used to be). It seems Nissan plans to have to offerings at the top; an Avalon competitor, and a sporty alternative. Toyota's tried to put different settings on the Avalon for sport, etc., but it hasn't seemed to result anything new sales from sport sedan shoppers. The Avalon is bought by people who want an isolated, comfortable, luxurious ride. The Teena's got that in spades.

Bringing it here would be the same scenario as when the maxima and i35 were in the lineup together, I guess that would equal some more sales, but I think its great as far as exciting new products.

I think they could do without it if they just made the maxima into a nice looking car inside and out with more power and features. I don't see how this teana is going to be more luxurious than what toyota has because it looks to have the nissan NA interior, not the jdm interior. And I don't think it allows the Maxima to become more sporty because the car is a boat of a fwd car already.

I wouldn't be surprised if the maxima had a hard time proving its sportyness against the avalon.

this is what the current max should have been in the first place....i hope this Teana doesn't make it here in the U.S.

the current max already tops out at @$35k+.....there's no room for this car in nissan's lineup

seems like all infinity / nissan sedans all look the same. all of them have the same profile. this is a very boring car. looks like an altima, maxima, g35, m35. none of them do a thing for me.
