Toyota recalls more than 34,000 Lexus vehicles

November 28, 2007

FREE PRESS STAFF REPORT

Toyota Motors Sales and the National Highway Safety Administration are recalling around 34,400 2006 Lexus GS 300, IS 250 and IS 350 models.

Over time, a crack may form in fuel pipes located in the engine compartment, the company said today in a statement.

The problem is blamed on high-stress areas that may have been created during the manufacturing process that when combined with corrosive agents, such as fuel, can form a crack, leading to fuel leakage.

The company said that one case has been reported with no related accidents.

Affected owners will be notified by mail early next month and they will not be charged for the newly designed fuel pipes.

Customers with questions or concerns should contact Lexus Customer Satisfaction at 800-255-3987.

Ouch that's even more severe than the Altima and Sentra recall.

And I thought Lexus is the pursuit of perfection!? I wonder how this will affect Lexus's reliability and dependability ranking?

Yeah, that's right I am sure every company does that. They do recalls for some problems, but they would hide some other problems. It's just that we are Acura owners, and we know more about our cars...

Nissan: 200,000 Vehicles Recalled

Automaker says more than 200,000 vehicles need a fix, models include Altima, Infiniti, Murano and Rogue.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Nissan Motor Co. said Wednesday it was recalling more than 200,000 vehicles to fix a sensor system that could affect the car's passenger side air bag.

Nissan (NSANY) said the recall includes 140,000 Nissan Altima cars from the 2007-2008 model years. It also involves 2007-2008 model years of the Infiniti EX35, G35 Sedan, G37 and the Nissan 350Z, Murano and Rogue.

Nissan spokesman Colin Price said there have been no injuries or crashes, and the company discovered the problem during internal testing. Most of the recalled vehicles are in the United States; others are in Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico and the Persian Gulf.

Nissan said the recall affects vehicles equipped with Continental Automotive Systems' Occupant Classification System control units. An electronic component in the control unit located in the passenger seat cushion may have been made out of specification.

The Japanese automaker said that could interrupt a signal in the sensor system and prevent the passenger air bag from deploying under certain conditions.

The recall is expected to begin in early November. Owners can contact Nissan at (800) 647-7261 or Infiniti at (800) 662-6200. To top of page

Accidental deployment is a bigger deal than airbag failure. I'm glad Nissan is addressing it but it DOES beat (as SG81 points out) defects that may cause fire or total brake failure. (Though I want them both to function properly, I personally would rather have my airbag not work than my brakes. )

I think Honda/Acura should have done this with the 94-97 ish airbags. I have heard/seen of many accidents where neither airbag deployed, deployed way too fast, or only one or the other airbag would go off.

Nothing like driving 60mph into a tree by yourself and the passanger airbag deploys. Glad to see Nissan is fixing this.

Cool 48k

JACKSON, Miss. – Nissan Motor Co. is planning to recall 48,700 trucks and SUVs for problems with a suspension part that could lead to a rough ride.

Spokesman Colin Price says the company is working on details with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and expects the recall to begin this week.

It will cover some, but not all, 2010 Nissan Armadas, Frontiers, Titans, Pathfinders and Xterras and Infiniti QX56 models.

The Armada, Titan and Infiniti QX56 are produced at the company's Canton plant. The Frontier, Pathfinder and Xterra are produced at its Smyrna, Tenn., plant.

The problem centers on a lower suspension control link, which may not have been welded properly. It could cause the bushing collar to crack, leading to a rough and noisy ride. No accidents have been reported.

Arrow Latest Nissan Recall

TOKYO (Reuters) -- Nissan Motor Co. will recall 2.14 million passenger cars and light trucks, including the Titan pickup and Pathfinder SUV, in its 3rd-biggest recall to fix a faulty ignition relay that could cause engine problems.

The recalls are mostly in Japan, with 835,000 units, and the United States and Canada with a combined 762,000 units.

Nissan said the recall affects 738,276 vehicles in the United States and 23,252 in Canada. All of those vehicles are light trucks made in North America, spokesman Mitsuru Yonekawa said.

The breakdown of the recalled U.S. models is: Titan 227,313 units, Pathfinder 143,471 units, Frontier 123,037 units, Armada 106,003 units, Xterra 101,483 units, Infiniti QX56 36,969 units.

Models affected in other markets include the March/Micra and Cube passenger cars.

Yonekawa could not give the name of the supplier that made the faulty component. But he said the company supplied the same part involved in all recalls worldwide.

No accident was reported from the defect, Nissan spokesman To****ake Ino****a said.

The faulty vehicles were built in Japan, the United States, Britain, Spain, China and Taiwan between August 2003 and July 2006.

Nissan does not disclose cost estimates on vehicle recalls or any impact on its earnings. But the fix is likely to be relatively cheap, with Nissan estimating less than 25 minutes for the repair, which involves replacing the ignition relay.

Recalls exceeding 1 million vehicles have become more common at big automakers as they use common components across multiple models to save design and production costs.

Last week, Toyota Motor Corp. announced a recall of 1.66 million vehicles globally for defects involving the brake master cylinder and fuel pump wiring. That brought the total number of vehicles recalled worldwide at Toyota in the past year to about 14 million.

I have a 2004 Nissan Frontier.
from all these websites that are displaying this news, I cant seem to find if my particular vehicle is affected.

would I have to call a dealer to find the affected VIN range?
