I used to enjoy driving my brothers 97 maxima, even with 80k miles on it.
But he bough a 2004 maxima last year and i still cant myself to enjoy it. I like nothing about it and it feels cheap and floaty compared to his old one.

When the lease was winding down on my 02 Maxima, I primarily considered the TL, Altima 3.5SE/SE-R and G35S as a replacement. I had ZERO inclination to even consider the 6G Maxima. (I even slightly considered the 255hp CTS.) In the end, I decided to keep my 5G Maxima.
IMHO, the Altima V6 takes over from where the 5G Maxima left off and the G35S/X represents the probable upgrade from current Altima V6/5G Maxima owners. Sidenote: Many of us pre-6G Maxima owners feel that the G35 sedan should have been the 6G Maxima instead the thing that Nissan stuck a 'MAXIMA' badge onto the back of and threw at us.

Just because you don't see it in the spy shots doesn't mean it won't be on the production version. They like to debadge and disguise the test mules...

Updated interior and exterior, new variable transmission
The 2006 model year Nissan Maxima will be available for the first time with a new continuously variable transmission and an updated exterior and interior design.
Like the recently released Murano, the 2006 model year Maxima combines the powerful 3.5-litre V6 with a 6-speed continuously variable transmission (CVT) with M-Mode, which provides smooth and responsive acceleration and offers enhanced fuel economy.
Additional improvements include new look front and rear bumpers, dual rear exhaust outlets, LED taillights, redesigned headlights, front fog lights and alloy wheels.
Inside, the application of leather and new metallic finishes creates a stylish modern ambiance.
The 2006 Maxima’s 3.5-litre V6 engine – also found in the Nissan 350Z Coupe and Roadster – generates 170kW of power @ 5600rpm and 333Nm of torque @ 2800rpm.
This sophisticated VQ35DE engine is from Nissan’s acclaimed VQ engine family, chosen as one of the world’s “Ten Best” engines by Ward’s Auto World for eleven consecutive years.
Matching the VQ35DE engine to the continuously variable transmission has broadened the gear ratio range and reduced friction to improve fuel economy. Compared with the previous model’s four-speed automatic transmission, fuel consumption has dropped from 11.2 litres to 10.8 litres per 100km – a reduction of 3.5%.
The 2006 Maxima has an impressive Control Safety System offering greater control and stability through the application of Electronic Brake Distribution, an Anti-lock Braking System, Brake Assist and Vehicle Dynamic Control.
Driver and passenger safety is enhanced through the Impact Safety System which includes a rigid body construction, active front headrests, front seatbelt pretensionsers, three-point rear centre seatbelt and dual front and side airbags. Curtain airbags are offered as standard on the Ti.
The 2006 Maxima boasts speed sensitive power-assisted rack and pinion steering, independent suspension with MacPherson struts (front) and multi-link coil springs (rear), coupled with front and rear stabiliser bars.
Braking is via four-wheel disc brakes and all variants bear 17x7JJ lightweight six-spoke aluminium alloy wheels and 215/55R17 93V tyres.
Offered in two highly specified variants – the prestigious ST-L and the luxurious Ti - the Maxima is testament to Nissan’s commitment to deliver exciting and attractive new vehicles with unprecedented levels of style, safety and comfort.
The entry-level variant, the ST-L, offers all the appointments one would expect from a prestige vehicle – dual-zone automatic climate control with rear outlets, power windows, central locking with remote keyless entry, eight-way adjustable driver’s seat and four-way power adjustable front passenger seat, drive computer, cruise control, leather seat and door trim, metallic finishes, leather steering wheel and shifter and four-speaker AM/FM radio/CD player.
The Maxima’s Ti variant adds an electric glass sunroof, intelligent keyless entry, six stacker CD player with six-speakers, illuminated driver and passenger vanity mirror, rear park assist and side curtain airbags.

What Would Don Draper Do?
i almost bought a 2005 se. it came down to that and the tsx. i was very, very close to purchasing a smoke exterior/black leather. i was biased with the maxima because my previous car was a '96 maxima, which i loved dearly and still miss to this day.
but then something hit me. i didn't mind the exterior of the maxima...except the grill. but that would have been ok because i was gonna get an aftermarket grill. the size was kinda big for just me, but i didn't think it was that big of a deal. what really hit me upside the head was the interior! the suede along the interior was just fugly! i dunno how i failed to catch it. i mean, i'm gonna be driving a car, and when i'm driving, i want to be in a nice looking interior.
then of course i realized how blinded i was by my previous car and how much more i'll get with the tsx for roughly the same amount of money.
but i hope they do a good job with the maximas because i'm still partial to it, and i want it to be a nice car.

I agree though that the interior is still a disappointment, hopefully the spy pics shown of a larger nissan sharing a 05 altima style interior are correct.

Just go to the car lineup page at Nissan-JDM. They don't have that many sedans for sale as they used to. No other model on sale in Japan currently looks anything like that.

Why does Nissan like Orange/Amber lighting?
That is the only thing I detest about Nissan/Infiniti.
Their car designs and fun to drive factor and quickness are better than Honda/Acura cars, but I prefer the Blue/White lighting Honda/Acura uses.

Nissan has released the first images of the 2007 Maxima — an updated version of the popular midsize sedan. The car receives changes inside and outside. Most notably, the front of the car has been updated, with the rear largely untouched. Tomorrow, Nissan is expected to unveil the new Altima and G35.
