seriously, it can be turned off guys. I think its a good idea - trying to maximize fuel consumption, especially in these times where everyones going nuts about gas might be a GOOD thing, but is at least innovative on its own.

If you can switch it off in the first place, why even get it to begin with?
This could be potentially dangerous.... on short on-ramps where you need to accelerate quickly, and the 100 lb/ft of torque in a Versa just ain't gonna cut it, especially when it won't even let you press the pedal more than 1/3.
It's a stupid idea.... if you really wanna save gas, its all on you.

Again, it can be turned off.... which means its still up to the driver. People just need to learn how to drive more conservatively if they want to save gas. Just another gimmicky, useless idea IMO. Kind of like buying a hybrid version of a vehicle - you buy the feature/hybrid to save gas, but it ends up costing you more in the long run since you'll never see the returns until years down the line.
Its nice to see that Nissan's trying.... but I think the term 'FAIL' is appropriate here. If anything, its seems more like Nissan is trying to win over the tree huggers by reducing their carbon footprint rather than actually saving their customers some money.

i can see it being useful for people that accidentally press the gas pedal a little too hard causing the car to down shift unnecessarily.

God all this talk about fuel efficiency and gas mileage is so tired. Gas prices have fallen $.30 just in the past 2 weeks and will be back down to less than $3/gallon by halloween, mark my words. Everybody just chill the f$%@ out about gas mileage....

Yet again someone trying to tell people what's best for them. I don't care if it can be turned off; it's simply one more step in a bad direction. One day we will no longer be able to drive our cars at all...and no, this isn't paranoia; they're already working on the technology.

what, do they think this is some new technology or something?? Corvettes have had this since the late C4 generation.. circa 1994 or so.. and others (I think). That is, the "gas pedal fighting you back" thing.. of course, that was for the purpose of traction control.. but the technical concept is pretty much the same.
so uh.. yeah.
so uh.. yeah.

CAGS is something totally unrelated to the traction control I spoke of. CAGS was put in place for fuel economy and you're right many disabled this.

On July 4th premium gas hit $4.30/gallon here in south GA (where we usually have pretty cheap gas). I just filled up yesterday and it was $3.86/gallon. Oil is down to $119/barrel and still falling. Plus summer driving season is coming to an end. Prices WILL drop under $3/gallon by thanksgiving......

Nissan unveils new prototype electric car EV-02
Nissan Motor Co. unveiled a new prototype electric vehicle Wednesday with batteries twice as powerful as conventional technology, aiming to take a lead in zero-emission cars.
Japan's third-largest automaker said the front-wheel drive, boxy-shaped car has a newly developed 80 kilowatt motor with advanced lithium-ion batteries installed under the vehicle's floor to avoid taking up space.
The laminated batteries, jointly developed with electronics giant NEC Corp., pack twice the electric power of conventional nickel-metal hydride batteries currently used in hybrid and electric cars, it said.
Nissan aims to start selling an electric car in the United States and Japan in 2010 and the rest of the world in 2012. It will have a new "unique bodystyle" that is not based on any existing model, the company said.
Nissan has been slower than rivals Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. to embrace petrol-electric hybrids, but it aims to become the industry leader in electric vehicles.
Such cars have so far failed to break into the mainstream, partly because of their limited battery life.
Nissan is also developing hydrogen fuel-cell cars as well as its own hybrid system, betting that zero-emission vehicles will take a 15 percent share of the global auto market in the future.
The company also unveiled a prototype hybrid which will also be launched in the US and Japan in 2010, as well as a new, slimmer fuel cell stack with double the power density of previous ones and 35 percent lower costs.

You guys are retarted. I doubt it fights you tooth and nail to keep you from stepping down on the pedal.
How about Cruise Control that limits the amount of throttle on a slight incline.

You can push the pedal all the way if you want, no big deal IMO.

I still don't see the point. If you want to eek out every last inch from a gallon of gas, simply drive in a manner that allows you to; you don't need the car to assist you.

It must be hard to stop the car smoothly, with the driver constantly has to adjust for different braking efforts under the different conditions preprogrammed by the auto maker.

Nissan/Infiniti to make a huge effort to improve Quality
Nissan creates large staff of quality inspectors
Hans Greimel
Automotive News

TOKYO -- Nissan Motor Co. is boosting the number of quality control inspectors and engineers more than twentyfold to 5,300. The goal is to halve the number of quality complaints on new cars by 2012.
The company's Infiniti luxury brand ranked slightly above average in the 2008 Vehicle Dependability Study released this month by J.D. Power and Associates. But the Nissan brand came in below average and far behind rivals Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co.
Little surprise then that quality has emerged as a top issue in Nissan's midterm business plan.
"Quality commitment is one of the three commitments in our GT2012 business plan, and Nissan is putting in a lot of focus and effort to meet our commitments," spokeswoman Pauline Kee says.
As part of the push, Nissan will roll out more quality control training for workers and boost the number of engineers helping suppliers with quality issues to 1,000 from five. Meanwhile, the ranks of engineers certified as quality inspectors will be increased to 4,300 from 250.
Ten directors also have been tapped as quality control heads responsible for any quality breakdowns, the company said. The goal is to catch parts problems earlier.
Nissan is targeting the number of customer complaints logged within three months of a new model's release, the ratio of defective components and the need for repairs.
