WTF? That sport concept isn't coming here?
Goddamnit ... Looks like I might just have to suck it up and buy a GTI DSG.
It's annoying how fucked up this market is ... No Focus RS and now no Nissan Sport Concept? Not everyone wants an SUV you fuckers!

We also get an Altima hybrid.
I guess we'll see the future of nissan in 18 months though as far as quality/styling/ and power.

I think the sport concept is still coming one day. I figured they'd start with a production Azeal placed under the next Sentra, and move from there. Looking forward to the next Altima.

Nissan Eliminating Blind Spots

Nissan is currently developing a system that will eliminate blind spots from around the vehicle with a bird’s-eye view of the surrounding area displayed on a central monitor.
Rear view cameras are becoming more of a standard feature these days … at least on Nissans. The rear view system now available on nearly every model in the Nissan range eliminates the worst blind spot during reversing i.e. what’s beneath your rear window. But there’s a second blind spot along both sides of the car. To eliminate this, side mounted cameras need to be fitted as they have been to the Presage model on sale in Japan since June 2003. Now Nissan is testing front mounted cameras. Even more amazing is that the driver sees an image on the dashboard mounted monitor as if he or she were looking down onto the car. It also shows up everything around it.
Cameras mounted at the front and rear and on both sides take pictures of the surrounding road surface, which are synthesized by an image processing technique into one view that is shown on a central display. The system is especially helpful when parking, enabling the driver to steer easily and precisely into a parking space. It also eliminates any fear of running over the neighbour’s prized belongings or posts or animals or anything else for that matter.
Although there is no confirmed release date for this advanced technology or what vehicle it will be fitted to, the luxury arm of Nissan, known as ‘Infiniti’, is due to arrive in Europe starting with Russia before 2008, so you never know…

wow thats pretty badass that they can synthesize an image like that
i could certainly use it on my nissan...every time i make a lane change i look like 10x as hard as i used to in the acura

More absolutely awesome tech coming from these guys. And realworld stuff that the consumer can easily see the benefit of... if they perfect it it should be standard in every Infiniti. It'd definitely give them a great edge. Start with the next G, please.

From a computing and software compositing standpoint -- you'd need one hell of a graphics processor to do this shit in realtime. And I'm struggling to think of how this would help in lane changes, since no camera on your Nissan can see the top of an H1 driving by your side... how would they render that?
There are ways, no doubt. If the camera was depth sensitive, it could draw an accurate enough picture but we're talking a few GHz of processing power required to do it.
I'm calling a on this tech making it to production before 2010. Hope I'm wrong though

Oh, and another thing: the car wouldn't look the way it does in the picture; it wouldn't be a real shot with reflections and proper lighting. I'm guessing it'd just be a 3D model. What'd be awesome is if all manufacturers started embedding RFID tags in their cars' grilles or whatever that identify some info like make, model, and year... that would make this tech easy as pie.

You know WHY cars have such ridiculous blind spots these days? Because of SUV's and pickup trucks and the associated crash standards, the A/B/C pillars have gotten so thick that people cant even see whats around them.
I'm keeping my TL with its 310 degrees of perfect vision and 4 star safety rating. Good 'nuff for me.

im with goldmember, this technology isn't feasable, im calling a
on the other hand, if they did what bmw has ALREADY done for parking assist in the 7 series where it uses distance sensors to draw pictures of where the cars are (for parking) and applied that to traffic situations, it would be fine and actually possible

I would have called bs on that system too, but they did make that possible.
So I have no doubt this surround warning can be accomplished. I always thought it would end up being done through the radar systems that are used in parking and adaptive cruise controls systems though.

Nissan gets iPod Connectivity
Nissan gets iPod Connectivity - - Text courtesy Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. - - Source: www.japanesecarfans.com
HC705-A navigation system with 7-inch wide touch-panel
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., today released a new all-in-one audio visual navigation system created exclusively for Nissan vehicles which enables music fans to connect their iPod* to the system with a designated connector cable for a seamless iPod experience on the road.
"We are very excited to be collaborating with Apple on this project," said Carlos Tavares, Nissan executive vice president and head of planning and design. "The new HC705-A navigation system gives customers the best possible in-car control of iPod through the system's innovative 7-inch wide touch-panel display. It also allows customers to enjoy their iPod in the car without any concern about battery life."
The iPod remains automatically charged when hooked up to the navigation system with the connector cable, a convenient feature for long trips.
In addition to iPod connectivity, the new high-spec hard disk drive navigation system offers numerous other features, including Nissan's CARWINGS telematics service, CD/MD/DVD playback and music recording capability.
The navigation system, a dealer-installed option, retails for 315,000 yen. The system is available at all domestic dealers starting from today and can be fitted on 11 Nissan models, including the Serena minivan, the Tiida compact car, the X-TRAIL SUV, and the Moco minicar. The connector cable, which is sold separately, retails for 20,865 yen. The cable supports all iPod models with dock connector.
*iPod is for legal or rightholder-authorized copying only. Don't steal music. iPod is a trademark of Apple Computer, Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries.

Score one for Nissan. This system sounds great, and the fact that it's in conjunction with APPLE'S IPOD, and not just an MP3 player, is a great marketing tool. I'm sure it's an exclusive deal, and we'll see Apple's name splashed throughout the brouchures. I wish that touchscreen was available without the navi option... and I wish it'd find it's way into all Infiniti products.

Nissan and Continuously Variable Transmissions **All but Quest will have them (p2)**
Car News Briefs: Buick Lucerne starts at $26,990; Nissan gearing up for big CVT push - - Source: Autoweek
DETROIT -- Nissan Motor Co. is gearing up to put continuously variable transmissions into four out of every 10 vehicles it sells in the United States by 2008.
That will represent at least 400,000 cars and trucks. Worldwide, Nissan wants to sell 1 million CVT-equipped vehicles by the same period, up from about 300,000 last year.
To prepare for the technology push, Japanese transmission maker Jatco Ltd. is spending more than $300 million to build a CVT factory in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Nissan owns 82 percent of Jatco.

What are the benefits of CVT? Better gas mileage? If so, sounds very promising.
On another note "Nissan owns 82 percent of Jatco." Don't they mean "Teh Jattco"????
