Nissan Azeal Concept News
Azeal Appeal: Nissan tales new look at 'pocket rocket' with Azeal Detroit show concept - - By DALE JEWETT | Automotive News - -Source: Autoweek
Nissan says the Azeal concept that will be at the Detroit auto show next month is a fresh look at the "pocket rocket" high-performance small car segment.
This sketch of the concept gives the impression that the Azeal could also be called the "Mini Z," with similarities in the roof line and fenders to Nissan's 350Z sports car.
The Azeal is the first concept created at the design studio in Nissan's technical center in Farmington Hills, Mich.
The automaker is searching for a successor to the Sentra that has more emotional appeal. The Sentra is scheduled to be redesigned for either the 2006 or 2007 model year.

Hehe, should go nicely with that rumored Honda S1000 roadster.

We're looking at a better looking, cheaper (def cheaper if it's the Sentra replacement) car that may be just as much fun to drive. All Nissan has to do is not screw up the dynamics, and give it decent power, and you've got a winner.

It rips off from the tC too blatantly. I never saw the sketches for the Scion concept room, but I'm pretty sure they'd resemble this rendering here. Lets see what Nissan can pull off with this. With their streak lately, I wouldn't be surprised if this ended up being better than the tC (in terms of value, looks, etc.).

Apparently, the Azeal is based on the shared C-platform architecture used by Renault's Mégane.

I am not sure if this is the same platform as the one used by the Altima (I doubt it), but it's for sure a FWD platform since the Megane is FWD.

Very very nice. I hope the real thing is as close to the concept as possible. That coupe, with a four door, could really bring Sentra to the top of the small car segment.

But as it's only a concept for now, it's hard to tell how any of this will pan out (which I hope it does). The original Z concept had a 2.4L 4 cylinder destined for the Z, not the current VQ35DE.
