its about time... it was a dissapointment when the new style Z came out over the previous. same goes for the RX-7. Everyone decided to make them slower?? why? for sales?

The 350Z is just as quick to 60mph as the 300ZX TT was so I don't know why you say it's slower.

Now, the RX-8 is another story

0-60 doesnt cut it for me. The TT on the first gen 300z gave it a lot of potential and would scream past 30mph. I use to own a 300z. You could get to 450-500HP on just bolt ons.

Stock v. Stock the 350Z and 300ZX TT are comparable. And the 350Z is far less expensive.

If I bought a $27k 350Z and spent $18k on performance mods, I'd be able to kick the shit out of a 300ZX TT which cost $45k back in the early 90s.

Bone stock the cars are comparable and if you go on price the 350Z is a landslide winner.

nice, compare bottom-end price on the 350Z with top-end on the TT.....

I've seen 350Z's on the lot for $37k.

I'd take a 300ZX TT over the 350Z without even thinking. Of course now it'd have some miles on it, but still.

and btw, it wasn't easy to get 450-500hp with just bolt-ons on a 300ZX..... you're thinking of the Supra even if you could get 450-500hp on the Z, something would have broke, unless you put in more $$$ to reinforce and strengthen key areas such as driveshaft, clutch, rear-end, etc.

^^^ but that is definitely one of the things I like about turbocharged cars over N/A.... relatively easy to mod. btw... the 350Z and 300ZX do reach the 1/4 in about the same time and speed... here's just one test:

I think it's fair enough to compare the Z32TT with the Z33.

The cheapest sticker for the Z32 was about $27k for the base model back in 1990 (which translates to $40k in 2005). The TT priced at about $45k in 1996 (or $54,600 in 2005).

With the Z33, you now get similar performance to the Z32 TT effectively for less than the cost of the Z32 NA.

Fine $37k vs. $45k

I highly doubt that a 450z would happen anytime soon. Nissan/infiniti has to succeed with the GT-R before ever considering something like this. If nissan and toyota failed selling the supra and 300zxtt, i doubt they would repeat their mistake

It could happen. The Cayman is in some ways better than a 911, yet far cheaper.

very true the carrera name has a history behind it, so it will still sell for the porsche enthusiasts. but people who want a porsche, not a boxster but one with as much performance as the carrera can get the cayman.

same goes for the 450Z and the GTR.
while using different engines (4.5 V8 in the Z making 430, twin-turbocharged, 3.7-liter V6 making 450hp in the GTR).. one will probably be cheaper than the other.. i guess its the same for the G35c/350Z.. but a more racy, hardcore versions of both.. the good thing about these two are that they both have a history.. the Z and the GTR names are pretty damn legendary..

Infiniti has yet to prove they can sell a 50k+ car, don't think a nissan like this would change that.

M35/45's sell very well and you have to remember that an M45 tops out at 60k. The QX56 sells pretty well for SUV and that sells for over 50k. I agree that it wouldnt be a good move for a "nissan" to sell a car for over 50k though. They should leave that to infiniti

, although the M45s I occassionally spy at local Infiniti dealers are around the $57-58k area (Sport/w Tech pkg) and dont seem to quite surpass the $60k mark. The Q45 sells for >$60k and that (coupled with the fact that it's a 'throwback to the previous generation of Nissans') is probably why it doesnt sell too well. The QX sold slow at first but seems to be selling well now.

As for the topic at hand, I think Nissan does need to rethink any strategy that puts a Nissan badged car above $45k. My Murano stickered at $36,XXX , which puts it within a grand or two of the FX35. If it wasnt for my wife's dislike of the FX, I would have DEFINITELY bought the more upscale FX35 AWD.

^ when Nissan badged cars are priced more/less the same as comparable Infinitis then, they should probably reassess the pricing strategy IMHO.

Ehh, I don't know about that. Infiniti mixes their M45 sales #'s in with the M35's and I bet the M35 #'s carry the majority of sales with maybe a 100 sales going to the m45 a month.

The qx is a selling ~1k a month, but compared to the escalade/ navigator I don't think thats really that great a number. SUV's in that segment seem to also be more readily accepted where a fullsize 50k+ luxo sedan really has to be an outstanding car with all the right stuff to have nice sales going against the 7/s-class/ls. Infiniti definately has their work cut out for them with the GTR and next Q-series sedan.

I don't think the Nissan brand really has what it takes to make it at that price range with any car, including GTR.

Two of my co-workers bought the Murano. One bought the top of the line one too, I didn't have the heart to tell her she could've gotten the FX for the same price. So I think it comes down to consumer knowledge of what's out there. But now that we're on that topic, I also notice WAY more FX's than I do Murano's on the road.

I knew going into it that we could have purchased an FX35 AWD for close to what our Murano cost ($36k SL AWD w/Touring) .....but for whatever reason, it's the ONLY Infiniti that my wife absolutely does NOT like.

But, your post is dead on. The irony is that my $36k Murano is far from being the priciest setup. Our dealer had one for $42k MSRP (SE AWD, Touring, Navi, DVD, wet bar, etc,...)...and the leather in the Mo is only on the seating surfaces, not a true leather interior. That said, I still love it and the power delivery is seemless.

Nissan Looking to Launch 400-hp V8 "Z"

Date Posted 11-28-2005

TOKYO — Nissan is planning to shoehorn the 4.5-liter V8 that powers several Infiniti models into its 350Z sports car to create a 400-horsepower hot rod.

The muscled-up coupe would be called the 450Z, says U.K. magazine Autocar. So far, the more powerful coupe has not been confirmed for production, but Nissan is seriously considering it in a bid to compete with the likes of Porsche.

The 450Z could also have an Audi quattro-style four-wheel-drive transmission in order to make sure the V8's output can be safely transferred to the road. The only problem is that the V8 currently doesn't meet all worldwide emissions rules. But Nissan is planning to modify the engine to meet Euro IV standards as it's planning to launch Infiniti in Europe in early 2007.

What this means to you: More power means higher price and more profit for the car companies, but it's not exactly going to please the environmental lobby.

Sounds pretty cool. As long as the GTR has atleast 450HP... I hope the the news translates to the next Q45/M45 making close to 400HP also. That would be sick.

Ahh yesss... I forgot about the FX. And wouldn't it be nice to shoehorn that engine into the next gen G? 400HP in it would make a great M3 competitor. Plust, we all know the next IS will have a top level V8 performance model.

I missed this thread a while back, but my 350Z Enthusiast model stickered for $28k when it got it. It has all the same features as the 36k Track model except Brembo's. It has the exact same performance so it is fair to compare these prices.

In addition, why not compare the price of the 300ZX TT using today's dollars? Either way, the 350Z is a performance bargain compared to the 300ZX TT

The 350Z is significantly faster than 0-60 in 6.0 seconds and 14.4 in the 1/4 as this test shows the 300ZX TT to perform.

While rare, there have been stock 350z's that did mid 13's. Either way, the 350Z is slightly faster stock for stock. Quite an accomplishment for significantly less cost.

I remember a while back there was a Top Gear video of old vs new and they had the 300zx and new 350 going head to head in a little drag race. While they seemed to perform the same down low the turbo seemed to show a clear advantage up top and walked away.

Ehh... I don't trust Top Gear when it comes to drag races. I remember that vid where they did a drag race with a few cars, two of them that stood out to me was the NSX and C6 Vette. They showed that the NSX walked the Vette. There's no way in hell an NSX/NSX-R would beat a C6 Vette in a drag race which they generally run mid 12's even with the auto tranny. Either that Vette had problems or the driver didn't know how to drive it.

Whenever you get the chance, post a link to that video. I'd like to check that out.
