Subaru Announces 2004 Impreza WRX STi Pricing; The Most Powerful Subaru Ever Offered for Sale in North America
Wednesday April 23, 1:17 pm ET

CHERRY HILL, N.J., April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Subaru of America, Inc., the only manufacturer to have all-wheel drive as standard equipment on every vehicle they make, announced today Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Pricing (MSRP) for the 2004 Impreza WRX STi. The all-wheel drive WRX STi with a standard six-speed manual transmission is $30,995, and will be available with a choice of rally inspired gold or silver painted wheels.

Introduced earlier this year at the North American International Auto Show, WRX STi will be the performance flagship of the Subaru line when it arrives in dealerships at the end of May, and will earn distinction as the most powerful Subaru ever offered for sale in North America.

The Impreza WRX STi draws motorsports technology directly from Subaru expertise in World Rally Championship (WRC) competition, and is designed to appeal to the serious driving enthusiast. The WRX STi builds on the performance and styling success of the award-winning Impreza WRX models that were an overnight success in the U.S. market. STi stands for Subaru Tecnica International, the high performance and motorsports subsidiary of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd.

The Subaru Impreza WRX STi is powered by an intercooled and turbocharged 2.5 liter DOHC boxer engine with Active Valve Control System (AVCS), variable valve timing, and an intercooler manual control water spray system delivering 300 horsepower at 6000 RPM and 300 lb-ft. peak torque at 4000 RPM.

The Impreza WRX STi comes equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission and our most advanced Full-Time All-Wheel Drive system with a Driver Control Center Differential (DCCD), and a high performance inverted strut sport-tuned suspension to provide the ultimate combination of power and handling.

Impreza WRX STi also features the latest in performance safety engineering -- as standard equipment. High intensity discharge (HID) low beam headlights provide increased forward visibility, while heavy duty BremboŽ four wheel disc brakes with Electronic Brake-force Distribution, and Super Sport ABS provide superior braking stability. Additional standard safety features include front seat head/chest side impact air bags, dual front airbags, and three-point seatbelts for all seating positions.

All 2004 Impreza models, including the WRX STi, are equipped with a safety brake pedal system that is designed to yield during a serious frontal impact in order to help reduce injury to the driver's lower limbs. The 2004 model year Impreza also meets all Federal Passenger Car Safety Standards. These models comply with Low Emission Vehicle Standards and are certified for sale in all 50 states. The 2004 Impreza features the peace of mind of standard 24-hour roadside assistance coverage for 3 years or 36,000 miles.

The destination and delivery fee is $550, except in Alaska ($685). The price listed does not include destination and delivery charges, licenses and state or local taxes. Independent distributor's destination and delivery rates may vary; prices are subject to change without notice.

Sounds hot. This car will most certainly sell.

I just hope GM gets the balls to release a new camaro with a huge V8, and destroy these im-ports. It won't happen, but I will continue to dream. :P

Horsepower wars = awesome.

i have no idea why they canceled the z28, all they had to do was give it some style inside and out. supposetly the solstice is a go for production though. sti should be cool as long as dealers don't go crazy with markups.

They cancled the Z28/all camaro/firebirds cause they didnt sell, just like our CL...

The solstice cant come close to compeating with this, i dont think its suposed to have more then 220 hp, cool looking car though.

Red NJ-s, i think there suposed to come out with another camaro for like the 05/06 model year, possibly a retro type of look from what i read....by the way, do you even have a cl or just a camaro?

See sig.

I think, if they spent some much needed dollars on the interior, then it would sell a hell of a lot better. That, and advertising. The camaro was not at all advertised. It is an amazing car, sad to see it go. GM is deffinitly stupid.

i think GM has grown some balls with the release of the new goat aka GTO.. or borrowed some from its aussie cousin, Holden.. even though its about $2-3k more than the sti it'll still give it some competition.. i cant wait till they come out cause ima been in line for a test drive..

Would totally get this over the Mitsu EVO. That thing may be fast as balls but could not justify spending over 30k on a car that looks almost exactly like a 12k car. At least the subaru, in my opinion, looks a little more upsdale. Comparetivly.

can i put my 2cent in. No BS but I was ready to put my 1000 bucks down to order one, then it hit me. I will NOT spend more than 30 grand on a subaru. no ifs ands or buts. Its very cool, dont get me wrong but I feel that if im gonna spend that change on a "fast" car I will be getting 01-02 vette. more peformance and its something I always wanted.

i feel bad for all the douche bags who spent 35-50k on their EVO's and now this thing is going to TOP the EVO!!! i just hope subaru doesnt go the route of "pre-rice" with homo spoiler and tail-lights like the EVO.

unfortunately, unless you're talking z06, i doubt a base c5 is going to get by an sti, car should be quite fast at the drag strip and on the track.

I like C5s but I'd get the STi first. I am a sucka for 4 door cars that are faster than 2 door ones. I ain't worried about the interior of this car, just that is hands the EVO it's arse.

Wow, 10-5 years ago, we got NOTHING like this.

Yeah I am thinking pure Z06 and I have found some really good deals just wanting for some money that is owed to me. They only thing about the Vette is that the C6 will be out in less than 2 years. Ive also had the cobra in mind, but that car is gonna change also. I saw some pictures last nite of a white sti and it was awsome, man I might just eat my own words about buying a 31,000 dollar subaru
