I don't really care if it'll beat me, I'll enjoy my vented seats, sunroof, and ride comfort

And how will the resale value be on that Mitsu?

Give me a brand new M5 and I'll take the good quality and prestige over speed. I always say, diarrea is fast, but it's still shit. We are all owners of cars that aren't the fastest in their segment, but they offer some of the best in the class. I being a son of a TSX owner see a LGT and ask what's better, speed on cheap plastic or great handling and sportiness on pretty nice materials? I'm sure you know my answer.

that evo is basically a factory race car, the benz is a high luxo quick boat.

Straight line performance may be on par, but throw both on a race track the EVO will beat it by SECONDS.

They aren't the same kind of car, people won't be debating, this evo or an E55

This will be the car someone who wants to suprise his friends at DE's in their GT3's and such.

Now a GT3 may be a better comparison.

the people who buy this car will be the people that care about speed, they'll have a benz in the garage for their everyday duty.

Evo's are no joke....they are BEASTS...pure-bred performance machines. Same goes for the STI (however I favor the Evo ) That's all they know. They are one of the BEST handling cars in the world. Sure, I'd take a phatty ass benz over this anyday since it's fast as shit and extremely luxurious...but the Evo offers so much more the Benz doesn't, and vice-versa. That car right there will man-handle just about any car ever produced.

Done.

Hey, not to say I would buy this car if I had $85K! And yes, I do agree with Minch that if I had that much spare dough, I'd be going for a M5 or E55...Heck, I think for that much, an SL500 is doable as well...

But, that being said, my point was that it's quite definitely something for a car with such a small engine that can keep up with supercars that cost 3-5 times as much...

On an aside, I sat in an Evo once and do have to say that they are VERY uncomfortable. Sure, they handle well and may be fun for the driver. But, as a passenger, the noise and ride quality were absolutely terrible. Maybe I'm just a big pansy...

Umm, the only thing that car will beat them doing is 0-60. Both of those other cars would WALK the mitsubishi hard past 60mph.

:ghey:

1/4 mile times would probably be equal too,a dn that would be to about 120-125. It'd start to get smoked after that.

on a track it'd hold it's own very well

You dont even have to go that far. THe 4G63 engine in the Evo has been heavily modiefied by enthusiasts, for more than 12 years now. There were DSMs doing 11.0 seconds on the 1/4 in 1998, in every day drivers. By 2000 they were doing it in the high 9s.

The engine was making a reliable 500-600 HP 4-6 years ago. So now Mitsu says, here is the same engine with different accessories and 405HP with a warranty, years later.

So nothing new here at all.

Frankly, I think any Zonda/Enzo/Murcielago owner should be ashamed if he doesn't also own this Evo. If you can spend hundreds and hundreds of thousands on an impractical roadster, spending about 80 on a car that's practical _and_ just as fast (although only off the line (thanks to AWD)).

I can't think of a sedan/saloon that is this high in both my fast-o-meter and my practical-o-meter.

You can buy a stock evolution and make it more powerful with less than 85 g's. No doubt it's a great car, but for 85 g's there are other cars out there I would rather be in and can shame exotics with a quarter the cost. On another note, who cares about 0-60 anyways?

faster, yes, as bulletproof? Would be hard to do. It's easy to make power, it's keeping that power reliable that's important. Look at the stats of the motor, that all easily runs up to 20K. Sure you could spend 5K and get the same speed, but that's not what it's about.

That's not even getting into the suspension, e-diffs, etc

Hehehe... I hear ya. It is more likely that Mitsu might end up pulling out of the USA than not surviving all together. Even an acquisition is likely. So I would not worry for the X itself, just if we will get it, or if we will continue getting it.

Is Mitsu. hurting that much that would have to take those kind of measures?

Mitsubishi Evolution IX Press Release

Tokyo, March 2, 2005 — Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) today announced that the Lancer Evolution IX high-performance 4WD sports sedan would go on sale at affiliated dealerships throughout Japan on March 3, 2005. With a 2.0-liter intercooler-turbocharged engine powering all four wheels through an electronically controlled 4WD system, Evolution IX raises all dynamic performance parameters to a new level. Tax inclusive prices range from 2,940,000 yen to 3,570,000 yen.

Evolution IX marks the 12th model in the series, which has also included an automatic transmission model, since the Lancer Evolution debuted in October 1992. Major features distinguishing the latest model include the adoption of Mitsubishi's proprietary MIVEC*1 variable valve timing technology in the intake system and improvements to the turbocharger that result in higher torque and produce better response for improved engine performance across its full rev range. New front and rear bumpers bring both high aerodynamics and cooling performance.

Evolution IX is offered in three trim levels. The flagship GSR grade features Mitsubishi Motors' cutting-edge ACD*2 + Super AYC*3 + Sports ABS*4 electronically controlled all-wheel control component system and a 6-speed manual gearbox. The motorsport-specification RS uses a special lightweight body, a new titanium-magnesium turbocharger, 5-speed gearbox and ACD + mechanical rear LSD all-wheel control. New for Evolution IX is the GT grade that brings together RS's turbocharger and drivetrain specification and GSR's comfort-bias body with its enhanced sound deadening. Allowing owners to customize their Evolution IX's to individual needs and preferences, a comprehensive range of factory- and dealer-fitted options as well as Ralliart tuning and dress up parts are available.
