The profile looks pretty good but both the front and back make me sick. It looks like it has more wheel gap than even a stock TSX

Saw it in person at the Detroit auto show on Saturday.. It wasn't terrible, but overall not great looking either. It actually looks very much like the Cougar in person. I don't think it will sell well... I'll post pics I took tomorrow

Those of you asking for AWD and Turbocharger back in the Eclipse, how many of you would actually buy it?

The answer is 1%. Out of ALL the 2nd generation Eclipses ever sold, AWD turbocharged version accounted for only 1%. Now, we must wonder why Mitsubishi was losing money.

One of you said that Mitsubishi didn't do any market research at all. Well, maybe not the market research, but they DEFINITELY did their financial research.

I wouldn't give them that much credit. If you're not making a car with X Y Z features because you know it wouldn't sell, you're only halfway there. What about making a car with X Y Z features that would sell? IMO, I don't think Mitsu did just that with this iteration of the Eclipse. The 3.8L engine sounds nice, but then again, this thing is now riding on the Galant platform...it's going to be ginormous...it might just need that 3.8L engine.

Maybe it was a capacity issue, but if they had PRODUCED more, they would have sold more. It was almost impossible to find a GSX or a GS-T back in the day. They didn't sit on the lot long, if at all.

I suppose it made more financial sense to offer the same engine found in their bread and butter sedan though, since at one point the V6 counted for 50% of Eclipse sales. For their sake, I hope the new model has the same effect and brings in some much-needed buyers.

Mitsubishi, of course in my opinion, is not back where Hyundai was about five years ago.

You can buy $17k 2004 Galants at Carmax for $9k.

That's a 50% loss in residual value in ONE year! Who in their right mind would ever buy a car like that?

Mitsubishi needs to hire someone like Carlos Gohsn and plan on at least 5-7 years before they have any consumer respect in the marketplace.

Right now Mitsus, with the exception of the Eclipse GT and GTS (in Wash, DC), seem to be sold to poor people who probably go to those dealers that find them 18-22% interest rates on car loans. It's very hard to get out of the red when that's your ownership base.

Redesigned Mitsubishi Eclipse should sticker just below outgoing model; vehicle to hit showrooms by June - - By KATHY JACKSON | Automotive News - - Source: Autoweek

SAN DIEGO -- The redesigned 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse is expected to go on sale by Memorial Day with a sticker slightly below the current model.

The base sticker of the Eclipse, Mitsubishi's best-known model, is anticipated to be about $20,000, including freight. That would be about $275 less than the current model. Mitsubishi has not released official prices.

"No vehicle in our lineup has been as successful" as the Eclipse, said Rich Gilligan, CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America, at a press event here on April 25.

Mitsubishi is desperate for a hit. Its U.S. sales plummeted 39.3 percent through the first three months of this year. Sales of the Eclipse dropped 27.5 percent to 3,132 in the same period. The car accounted for 9.1 percent of the brand's total sales.

Gilligan would not speculate on Eclipse sales but said the company's plant in Normal, Ill., has a capacity of 42,000 annually on one shift. The company sold 12,012 Eclipses in 2004 and 27,897 in 2003. The numbers exclude the Eclipse Spyder.

The redesigned Eclipse comes in two models, the GS and the GT.

The GS comes with a 2.4-liter, 162-hp four-cylinder engine with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. The current four-cylinder engine makes 147 hp.

The GT has a 3.8-liter, 263-hp V-6 with either a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. The current 3.0-liter V-6 makes 200 hp in the GT and 210 hp in the GTS.

The GT will have a base price below $25,000, including freight.

The redesigned Eclipse has more interior room and a new 650-watt audio system.

The company expects the GT to account for 65 percent of sales. The primary customers will be split equally between singles and married couples aged 25 to 35.

The ad campaign begins June 12.

When a coupe is the most successful vehicle in your lineup, you know you are in deep, deep trouble as an automaker today. Possibly, unrecoverable trouble.

Mitsubishi marketing execs exit over Eclipse strategy - - By Kathy Jackson - - Source: Automotive News

LOS ANGELES -- Two key marketing executives have left Mitsubishi Motors North America as the company is launching the redesigned Eclipse.

Sources say Kevin Mayer, director of advertising, and John Jullens, director of strategic planning, both resigned Monday.

The sports coupe, which company CEO Rich Gilligan says is crucial to Mitsubishi's success, goes on sale at the end of this month. The ad campaign begins June 12.

Sources say both Mayer and Jullens were at odds with Gilligan and Dave Schembri, executive vice president of sales and marketing, over how the Eclipse should be marketed to consumers. Sources say the pair were particularly disappointed with what they saw as a paltry ad budget for the car, at about $25 million.

Company spokeswoman Dotty Diemer declined to comment.

Jullens, who reported to Hiroshi Taguchi, senior vice president of corporate strategic planning at Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc., was in charge of pricing, research and market and industry analysis for all of Mitsubishi's nameplates in this country. Mayer was responsible for advertising.

Sources say Mitsubishi's entire ad budget for this year is about $120 million, and top Mitsubishi execs have said they can't afford to budget more money for the Eclipse launch.

The company also needs to spend ad dollars on the Galant and Lancer sedans, its two best-selling vehicles, and the Endeavor SUV. The new Raider pickup goes on sale this fall. Mitsubishi sales in the United States fell 39.3 percent in the first quarter.

Mayer, who took the advertising job Jan. 1, is the third person in that position to resign from Mitsubishi in less than a year.

Paul Mareski left the company in June after only four months on the job. Diane Hong replaced Mareski and resigned Dec. 31.

Bob Martin, director of brand marketing, left the company in March.

The pic in itself is terrible. The lumber seems to frame the car within the pic, it looks like it's boxed in, trapped.

If I was Mitsu. I'd be pissed at Edmunds....why not put the Eclipse in the middle of the local landfill for pics?

IMO the car looks utterly plain. The front end really reminds me of the pontiac G6 for some reason. Or whatever it is.. pontiac whatever the GTP is a trim for.

Road & Track tested it at 5.8 to 60 and 14.4 through the 1/4 mile. Although the as-tested price was just under 27K and the weight 3750lbs.

No thanks.

Looks like it's picking up where the CL-S left off; fast and average handling.

At least it's not boring to look at though.

The interior is not up to par with the CL-S at all, however. Not even close.
