^ Hopefully they're an option & not standard on all trims. I could do without it, if I were buying.

The taillight Union Jack is an option, and probably not a cheap one to begin with

MINI has just hosted the first press drives of the Mini Cooper SE electric car and shared with some preliminary data and specs on their upcoming electric car. We haven’t driven the car, so we will have to resume to just sharing the hard data.

One of the first and most important things in an electric vehicle is the range, and MINI says that the Cooper SE will have around 120 miles of electric range. It’s unclear whether that figure is based on the WLTP standard or the U.S. EPA rating.

The usable battery capacity is 29kWh delivering similar real-world range to the 94Ah i3. The engine is also inherited from the i3 S, so around 181 horsepower and 199 lb-ft of torque while the battery cells will be supplied by Chinese firm CATL.

The battery weighs around 200kg and it’s fitted in the space used for the combustion-engined MINI’s exhaust and transmission tunnel. The car weighs around 1360kg, or about 130kg more than a comparable Cooper S with an automatic gearbox.

MINI says that the front-to-rear weight distribution of the Cooper SE is 54/46, compared with 68/32 for the Cooper S, and despite the higher ride height, its center of gravity is also at least 12 percent lower.

The Cooper SE electric is said to hit 62 miles per hour in 7 to 8 seconds. MINI also said charging a completely dead battery to 80 percent takes 40 minutes using a DC fast charger, and 3 hours with an 11-kilowatt AC charger.

That’s kinda all we know so far, but we expect to learn more as the year progresses. Production is scheduled for November 2019, but the U.S. market is said to see the first units in first quarter of 2020.

https://carbuzz.com/news/mini-wants-...terrible-trend

If you were to visually compare the first, second, and third generation of the Mini three-door hatchback since BMW took ownership of the company you'll immediately notice one thing: size. Each redesigned model was larger than its predecessor and today's third-gen model has been criticized by some for its enlarged proportions, leading to unsightly design elements like the large front overhang. Mini is fully aware of the criticism and, as it turns out, completely agrees with it. Speaking recently to Autocar, Mini chief Bernd Korber stated that he'd "love to see the core Mini shrink again."

At the same time, he also wants to see the brand "grow in some aspects." What does this all mean? Well, Korber has essentially hinted that the upcoming fourth-generation Mini hardtop, due in 2022 or 2023, will be smaller, though not by a huge amount. In other words, don't expect the proportions of the well-regarded first-gen model.

This approach will definitely help with that front overhang issue. Lessons taken from the new Mini Electric are also being applied, specifically in regards to packaging. The next Mini will be sold with both electric and gasoline-engined powertrains. "We are having proportion and design discussions at the moment," said Korber. "The task now is to design it. In three to four years, I'd like to see the start of the next generation. Hopefully, in the next generation, we can make it even more compact, back to where Mini comes from." No complaints there.

Korber also wants to dramatically improve the next Mini's interior, such as more focus on digital technology while still retaining that trademark round center console. While the fourth-gen Mini is being planned, designed, and engineered, the brand still has plans to launch a new crossover, potentially to be called Traveller, which we reported on last month.

Assuming it gets the green light, the Mini Traveller will be a crossover that's larger than today's Countryman. To help save costs, it's being developed alongside the BMW i3's successor. Don't expect this crossover, which will also offer EV and internal combustion powertrains along with a PHEV option, to be larger than a BMW X3. Korber added Mini does need "to address the growth in SUVs and look at if we need a compact SUV." The Mini Countryman is classified as a subcompact SUV.

Eventually, Mini expects to become an electric-only brand, but internal combustion engines are not going anywhere just yet. The next Mini hardtop, and its convertible and five-door siblings, will retain both front-wheel-drive and turbocharged engines.

Mini’s John Cooper Works GP models have always been a ridiculous caricature of a race-inspired hot hatch. The first GP was perfection, which explains their equally ridiculous resale prices these days. It takes just the right person to appreciate the JCW GP, but those who do hold them tight and treat them dearly. Only 3,000 will be made for worldwide consumption

This new one is likely to be more of the same, but with one major change; paddle shifts instead of three-pedals. If the GP’s job is to ape modern motorsports for the street, the paddles make sense

Its over-the-top aerodynamic treatments definitely don’t make sense, but that just makes it all the more ridiculous. Which is good, natch.

Big wing. Oh man, it has a big wing. And I love it.

The aerodynamic pieces of this car are the most ridiculous possible, with massive fender flares at each of its four wheel openings. From this image below, you can see the flares actually extend out into something of a finned barge board or exaggerated wing endplate. It’s crazy, but oh so cool.

On to the specs. It’ll be quick enough with 306 horsepower—75 more than the non-GP John Cooper Works—and a tremendous 332 lb-ft of torque. This power is shifted through an eight-speed Steptronic transmission with a mechanical locking differential. All of that conspires to propel the tiny two-seater to a 5.2-second 0-60 mph time.

The back seats are gone from this lightweight front-wheel-drive sports car. Replaced instead by a strut tower brace, as was the case with the two previous JCW GP generations.

That special engine gets has a revised TwinPower Turbo and double VANOS variable camshafts for more boost and earlier power delivery. Max torque arrives at just 1,750 RPM, while the full 306 horses are available at 5,000 RPM. It also has GP-specific oil sump with more volume for “extremely sporty driving” allowing reliable oil supply even in high-G cornering and braking.

To help this car grip, the wheels are 18x8" lightweight—a little under 20 pounds—units fitted with sticky 225/35 Hankook tires at all four corners. That hides a massive set of 360mm brake discs at the front with four-piston calipers.

No word yet on how much this little machine will cost, but don’t expect it to be inexpensive. The “regular” John Cooper Works three-door starts at $33,400. Others are reporting starting prices between $44,900 and $45,750, so figure on about ten grand more than a Honda Civic Type R.

You buy a hatchback for practicality, but the JCW GP pulls all of that practicality out of the equation. It’s ridiculous to look at, ridiculous to pay for, and probably equally ridiculous to drive. But if you’re the kind of ridiculous person to buy one of these, you’ll probably freakin’ love it. Get in line quick, you raving lunatic, because they’re likely to go quick.

After getting output and pricing details on the 2020 Mini Cooper SE electric hatchback over the past few months, we now get the critical range part of the equation, and it's disappointing. Mini only estimates 110 miles on a charge for the SE. That number isn't final, as the EPA hasn't published its official number, but we wouldn't expect it to go up or down by much. This number is also lower than the European estimate of 146 to 168 miles, but we were expecting a lower range for the States, if not quite that low.

This means that the Mini Cooper SE will have a significant range disadvantage against similarly-priced competitors such as the Nissan Leaf and Hyundai Ioniq Electric. Both have base prices only a few hundred to a thousand dollars more than the Mini. The Leaf has a range of 150 miles, and the Ioniq's range has been boosted to 170 miles. Both cars are significantly less powerful, though, with the Leaf making 147 horsepower, and the Ioniq making 134 horsepower. The Mini Cooper SE's electric motor sends 181 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels.

Besides the range estimate, Mini has revealed more details about trim levels and equipment. The base trim is called Signature and starts at $30,750. It includes a 6.5-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay, heated seats, LED lights and a new instrument panel screen, instead of an analog dial. In the middle is the Signature Plus at $34,750, and it adds parking sensors, sunroof, power-folding mirrors, extra ambient lighting and an upgraded sound system. Both of these trims are available in five colors including black, white, gray, red and green. The top level is the Iconic, which starts at $37,750 and further adds some interior trim and a larger 8.8-inch infotainment system with navigation. It gets a sixth color option of a dark blue, as well.

The Mini Cooper SE will be eligible for the full $7,500 federal EV tax credit, as well as local tax incentives, so that will of course bring the final price down.

56 years have passed, but memories of the great triumph achieved by the small car with the starting number 37 have hardly faded. In 1964, the classic Mini Cooper S clinched the first of three overall victories at the legendary Monte Carlo Rally. At the wheel: the then 30-year-old Northern Irish rally driver Patrick "Paddy" Hopkirk. In his honour, MINI now presents an edition model with exclusive design and equipment features to mark one of the most spectacular achievements in the history of international motor racing. One unmistakable reminder of Hopkirk's coup in the classic Mini is the winning car's start number 37, which is featured in stylised form on the driver and passenger doors of the edition model.

The MINI Paddy Hopkirk Edition is available in selected automobile markets from October 2020 as the MINI Cooper S 3-door, the MINI Cooper S 5-door and the MINI John Cooper Works. Like the famous starting number and the powerful engine, the body finish in Chili Red and the white roof of the edition model are inspired by the historical model.

Hopkirk's victorious run in the Mini Cooper S was frenetically celebrated by spectators on site and motor racing fans in the UK. Driving the small British car with his English co-pilot Henry Liddon, Hopkirk overcame the odds against competitors with significantly greater engine power. The handicap formula in force at the time meant that differences in weight and output within the starting field were compensated to a certain extent. But the crucial factors in the challenging chase over country roads and mountain passes, through ice snow, round tight corners and down steep slopes were the agility and reliability of the Mini Cooper S and Hopkirk's driving skills.

The surprise win in Monte Carlo made Paddy Hopkirk the UK's most famous rally driver overnight. At the same time, the classic Mini advanced from outsider and crowd pleaser to being a motor racing legend. This status was underpinned in the years that followed when the Mini Cooper S dominated the Monte Carlo Rally. Hopkirk's Finnish team mates Timo Mäkinen and Rauno Aaltonen added two more outright victories to the title collection in 1965 and 1967. The winning streak at the Monte Carlo Rally continues to inspire MINI fans all over the world to this day. With the MINI Paddy Hopkirk Edition, they now have the opportunity to express their passion for racing in a particularly authentic way.

The edition model combines its exterior paintwork in the style of the historic rally winner in a market-specific manner with 17-inch John Cooper Works light-alloy wheels in Track Spoke Black design or 18-inch John Cooper Works light-alloy forged wheels in Cross Spoke Jet Black matt design and numerous other accentuations in dark colours. The frame and horizontal brace of the radiator grille are finished in high-gloss black, as are the inserts for the lower air intakes, the opening in the bonnet, the door handles, the fuel filler flap, the tailgate handle, the MINI logos at the front and rear as well as the surrounds for the headlights and rear lights.

The start number 37 also appears on the side indicator elements known as side scuttles. Other unmistakable features on the exterior are the LED headlights and the rear lights in Union Jack design, stickers with the inscription "Paddy Hopkirk Monte Carlo" and a single white bonnet stripe on the driver's side, which like the tailgate of the edition model bears the signature of the 1964 "Monte" winner. In addition, the famous number and letter combination 33 EJB of the number plate of the 1964 Monte Carlo winning car is shown on the bonnet strip using 3D effect graphics.

Hopkirk's signature also appears on the decorative trim strip on the passenger side, which forms part of the Piano Black high-gloss interior surfaces. Another exclusive design feature is the MINI LED entry sills bearing the name "Paddy Hopkirk". The MINI Excitement Package and Comfort Access are also included in the MINI Paddy Hopkirk Edition. A market-specific configuration also includes auxiliary headlights in Piano Black, a key cap with the start number 37 and the Waistline Finisher in Piano Black for the trim strips between the body and the greenhouse. In addition, the edition model can be tailored to the driver's personal style so as to create an entirely unique specimen. To optimise driving pleasure, comfort and individual style, almost all items are available from the range of optional extras for the MINI 3-door and MINI 5-door.

It's a shame these cars have lost some of their fun factor.
I looked at a 5-door Cooper S before we bought the C. There wasn't a single manual on the lot apart from JCW models. The auto was pretty lazy.
I remember driving the R53 & it was a blast, being light & nimble. The R56 was a bit bigger but still a fun car. The new ones just don't excite, to me.

The current Mini Cooper Hardtop and Convertible models, while still generally fun and stylish, are getting up there in years. The last total redesign came in 2014, with some minor updates to keep it fresh. For 2022, Mini is going with another refresh instead of an all-new model, and it seems to have cribbed notes from BMW's design team.

There's no getting around it, the updated Mini models have a big grille. And that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, the classic pre-BMW Minis had large grilles, but it's also messy. Every version gets a thick black grille surround that extends to the base of the bumper, and it blends into the black air dam. It makes it look overly big and hard to tell where it begins and the edge of the bumper begins. The body color center section makes it look like the grille frame was just laid on top of a plain bumper, and the various openings look a little like afterthoughts. The base Mini Cooper has the simplest design, which helps things somewhat, while the S and John Cooper Works models have bigger openings and more grille mesh.

Grille aside, there are other small styling changes inside and out that are much less controversial. Mini is ditching fog lights mounted low in the bumper for minimalist openings and integrated fog lights in the main headlamp housings. The fender garnishes that Mini calls "side scuttles" have been given a tweak and some thin, long turn indicators. At the back, the rear fog lights and reflectors are gone completely for a cleaner design. A new option is the Multitone Roof that features a gradient with Soul Blue, Pearly Aqua and Jet Black. The interior is similar to the current model, but the analog speedometer has been replaced by the digital cluster introduced on the Mini Cooper SE and John Cooper Works GP. Also, the center air vents are now integrated into the dash panels and the steering wheel and ambient lighting arrangement have been redesigned.

Mechanically, the Mini lineup is completely unchanged with the same engine and transmission offerings as before. That does mean that manual transmissions will continue to be available. Mini has added some new standard features to the lineup, though. All models now get an 8.8-inch infotainment screen as standard, and the interface has new graphics. Apple CarPlay and satellite radio are also included, though Android Auto is still unavailable. Lane-departure warning is now standard, and adaptive cruise control now has stop-and-go functionality.

Base pricing for the Mini Hardtop and Convertible range increases by $500 across all models except the electric Cooper SE; its pricing is unchanged. The starting price for each model is listed below. Four-door Hardtops add $1,000 to the base price, and the convertible adds $5,000 to the base price. Production of 2022 Mini models starts in March, and they should show up at dealers soon after.
  • Cooper: $23,750
  • Cooper S: $27,750
  • Cooper SE: $30,750
  • John Cooper Works: $33,750

https://www.motor1.com/news/520896/m...s-anniversary/

The Mini vehicle may date back to before the '60s, but the team-up between Sir Alec Issigonis and John Cooper only started in September 1961, which gave birth to the Austin Mini Cooper and Morris Mini Cooper.

To celebrate the momentous event, the Mini brand has released a special edition three-door model. Limited to a number of units worldwide, the Mini Anniversary Edition aims to harken back to the collaboration between the traditional sporting spirit of the Mini brand and John Cooper's successes in Formula 1.

Since John Cooper designed race cars were identifiable by their green paintwork with white accents, the Mini Anniversary Edition models are offered in British Racing Green metallic. Midnight Black metallic variant is also available, while Mini John Cooper Works Anniversary Edition can also come with Rebel Green body color. The roof, exterior mirror caps, door handles, and surrounds for the headlights and rear lights all come in white.

Other accents include white hood stripes, a red accent line, and the number 74. The latter looks back to the starting number that the classic Mini Cooper wore on its first successful race track appearance. To complement the appearance, a set of 18-inch John Cooper Works light-alloy wheels in Circuit Spoke two-tone design comes standard, along with the COOPER logo found on the door sill trims, side scuttles, C-pillars and the center spoke of the Nappa sports leather steering wheel.

Inside, the interior surface features the signatures of John, Mike and Charlie Cooper on the driver's side. The driver's door frame also features an emblem with John Cooper's signature, a handwritten note "1 of 740," and the words "60 YEARS OF MINI COOPER - THE UNEXPECTED UNDERDOG."

The Mini Anniversary Edition is limited to three-door Mini Cooper and Cooper S, as well as the Mini John Cooper Works. It's limited to 740 units worldwide.

Undermining the work of spy photographers around the world, Mini gave us our first official look at the next-generation Hardtop by publishing a series of photos that show the hatchback wearing full camouflage. While the finer design details remain hidden, the shots are revealing enough to provide a very decent idea of what to expect — and what not to expect — from the fourth generation of this British icon.

What's immediately clear is that the next Hardtop looks like a Mini; or, at least, like the German reinvention of the Mini. Designers haven't significantly changed the hatchback's proportions, and they kept defining styling cues such as round headlights, a nearly flat roof panel, and vertical rear lights. One interesting detail is that the headlights are no longer integrated into the hood; the Mini seemingly loses its clamshell hood in favor of a more conventional unit that stops at about the same level as the A-pillars. Mini also mounted the door handles flush with the body. We're guessing more details will jump out when the camouflage come off, but we're expecting mostly evolutionary changes.

"What you'll see in 2023 is that we've clearly modernized it by taking a big step — the biggest step in the last 20 years — but it will be unmistakably a Mini," said Mini boss Bernd Körber in December 2020. He added that the project's motto was "don't screw with an icon."

Mini hopes to become an electric-only brand by the beginning of the 2030s, but we're not there yet. While the Hardtop draped in camouflage runs on batteries, gasoline-powered models will continue to be part of the range in many markets around the world. It's too early to provide technical details, but it's reasonable to assume that both the EV and the gasoline-sipping models will benefit from drivetrain improvements. Front-wheel-drive will continue to come standard, like it always has. Will the stick-shift survive? We're keeping our fingers crossed.

More information about the next-generation Mini Hardtop will be released in the coming months, and the model is scheduled to make its debut in 2023. It's one of several new models the BMW-owned brand has in the pipeline. The next-generation Countryman is scheduled to enter production in 2023 as well, an electric high-performance John Cooper Works-branded model is on its way, and Mini pledged to release a crossover it described as "small" (which is highly relative, even for Mini) that will exclusively be offered with an electric powertrain.

https://www.netcarshow.com/mini/2023...e_convertible/

Following the positive feedback on the unique specimen presented in summer 2022, MINI is now going ahead with a small series of the all-electric MINI Cooper SE Convertible which represents another big step in the direction of electric mobility. The world's first locally emission-free premium convertible in the small car segment shortens the transition period to the introduction of the next-generation all-electric model family. From April 2023, the MINI Cooper SE Convertible will be available in Europe in a limited number of 999 vehicles.

"Three years ago we launched the all-electric MINI Cooper SE, and today one in five MINI sold in Europe is an all-electric MINI. This success has spurred us to implement the small series of the MINI Cooper SE Convertible within only a few months. I'm delighted that we can offer 999 MINI customers an extraordinary and exclusive open-air go-kart feeling," says Stefanie Wurst, Head of the MINI Brand.

The MINI Cooper SE Convertible is available in Enigmatic Black and White Silver. Door handles, side scuttles and the surrounds of the front and rear lights are finished in Resolute Bronze. The MINI logos and the model lettering feature in elegant Piano Black to match. The E logo familiar from the MINI Cooper SE is found on the front apron and on the rear, thereby visually underlining locally emission-free driving fun.

Further edition-specific equipment details also adorn the door sill trims and side scuttles and, with the 1 of 999 lettering emphasising the exclusive character of the limited edition open-air MINI.

MINI takes on a pioneering role with the edition-specific alloy wheels. The 17" cast alloy wheels in Electric Power Spoke 2-tone design are made of 100 percent secondary aluminium. The combination of green electricity during production and the use of the secondary raw material can significantly reduce CO2 emissions compared to conventional manufacturing processes.

Extensive interior equipment with MINI Electric Design features

The sports seats are in MINI Yours Leather Lounge design and feature seat heating and adjustable thigh support. The multifunctional sports leather steering wheel in Nappa leather finish contributes to the fun-to-drive atmosphere and stylish driving comfort and can also be heated. In the lower steering wheel spoke, the MINI Electric Badge highlights the limited character of the all-electric convertible. The exclusive Piano Black surfaces, which can be stylishly set off by the ambient lighting, also contribute to car's exclusive status. The design of the interior emphasises the fully electric character of the open-top four-seater with yellow colour accents, such as the yellow start-stop toggle switch.

In addition to numerous other features, the high-quality equipment is complemented in the cockpit by the eDrive services familiar from the MINI Cooper SE. These provides the driver with information on current energy consumption, range and tips for an economical driving style. All essential information is summarised on the MINI Head-Up Display while driving. On longer journeys, the Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function and the MINI Driving Assistant, among other features, enhance the comfort of the limited MINI Convertible with all-electric drive as standard.

Pure electrified go-kart feeling

With a length of 3,850 mm, a wheelbase of 2,495 mm, 1,727 mm width and 1,427 mm height, the dimensions, including the luggage compartment with 160 l load volume, remain unchanged compared to the conventionally powered MINI Convertible. The 135 kW/184 hp electric motor comes from the BMW Group's electric mobility competence centres in Dingolfing and Landshut. Its small size enables particularly harmonious axle load distribution and favours agile and easily controllable handling. The electric drive accelerates the MINI Cooper SE Convertible smoothly from standstill to 100 km/h in 8.2 seconds.

With a range of 201 kilometres determined in the WLTP test cycle, open-air excursions are possible well beyond the city limits. Up to 30 km/h, the fully electrically powered and thus particularly quiet textile soft top in MINI Yours style with typical Union Jack pattern can be opened, closed or set as a sliding roof.

From idea to small series

With the MINI Cooper SE Convertible, MINI highlights its flexibility and has set up the production of a small series for the first time. The MINI Cooper SE Convertible will be produced in a limited edition of 999 vehicles alongside the conventional MINI Convertible in the Netherlands.

Currently available from $30,900 in the United States, the 2024 model year MINI Cooper Electric two-door hatchback is getting a ground-up redesign for 2025. Owned by German automaker BMW since 1996, the British marque is gradually cutting back on internal combustion-engined vehicles in favor of BEVs.

The ICE-BEV sales mix is expected to reach 50-50 by 2027, and we also know that MINI's last-ever internal combustion vehicle is coming in 2025. Turning our attention back to the all-new Cooper Electric, the zero-emission hatchback is rocking a UKL derivative known as FAAR. Developed with an emphasis on electrification, the Frontantriebsarchitektur front-wheel-drive architecture is also used by the BMW X1.

MINI's next-generation Cooper Electric promises go-kart driving thrills, although we've heard that on way too many occasions without actually experiencing that level of handling. Heavier than its combustion-engined sibling, the all-electric hardtop builds on the Cooper SE that launched in 2020 to somewhat mixed reception.

Over in the Old Continent, a grand total of two powertrains and battery packs will be offered in the first year of production. The list comprises the Cooper E and Cooper SE, which belt out 135 kilowatts (think 184 ps or 181 hp) and 160 kilowatts (218 ps or 215 hp).

Not bad for such a small car, especially if you remember that the all-new Cooper E matches the outgoing Cooper SE in terms of power. There is no information available on a hi-po trim level at press time, but knowing MINI, the John Cooper Works is definitely on the horizon.

Mounted neatly in the FAAR platform's floor, the lithium-ion battery is available with either 40.7 kilowatt hours or 54.2 kilowatt hours for the pokier Cooper SE. By comparison, the 2024 model year Cooper SE makes do with 32.6 kWh for a WLTP-rated estimate of 235 kilometers (144 miles) on the combined test cycle.

MINI claims 300 to 400 kilometers (186 to 249 miles) from the larger batteries of the 2025 model, which is pretty good for a car with such a small footprint. In addition to available space in the floor, MINI simply couldn't make a case for an even larger battery due to increased costs and – therefore – a higher MSRP.

To be manufactured in Germany at BMW's assembly plant in Leipzig, the MINI Cooper E and Cooper SE will be joined by the next-generation Countryman. If all goes according to plan, the three-door hatch will start production in November 2023, which – theoretically – makes it a 2024 model. There's also a small crossover in the making, namely a shrunk Countryman by the name of Aceman. It's coming in 2024, and heaven knows if dealers will get it for the 2025 or 2026 model year.

Greatly inspired by Alec Issigonis' original from 1959, the BMW-designed MINI three-door hatchback went live in 2000. The current generation, which is codenamed F55 or F56 depending on the number of doors and F57 for the convertible, started production back in 2013. Car number 1,000,000 rolled off the assembly line in Oxford earlier this year in the form of a three-door Cooper SE for the Canadian market.

The performance-enhanced MINI John Cooper Works models have always been the brand's top athletes and maximize that brand-typical go-kart feeling. The MINI John Cooper Works 1to6 Edition, limited to 999 units worldwide, accentuates the powerful sportiness of the drivetrain in a particularly authentic way.

"The MINI John Cooper Works models have their roots in motorsport. With the MINI John Cooper Works 1to6 Edition, we are celebrating MINI's legendary motorsport history and maximizing the brand-typical driving experience," says Stefanie Wurst, Head of MINI.

The manual 6-speed transmission makes the MINI John Cooper Works a special high-performance model. Together with the standard stainless-steel pedals, the mechanical manual transmission underlines the dynamic response of the drive and stands for the exciting race feeling of the MINI John Cooper Works. The focus on this unfiltered and authentic driving experience with a 6-speed manual transmission gives the 1to6 Edition its name.

Limited edition with puristic design details

Even from the outside, the MINI John Cooper Works in the 1to6 Edition signals individual style and exceptional performance. The front end is characterized by the radiator grille with the tried and tested large air inlets for optimal temperature control of the engine and brakes and a surrounding completely in Piano Black. In combination with the elegant Midnight Black body color, the elegant black design details give the vehicle an untamed appearance. The brand-typical side scuttles as well as the waistline finisher are also designed in Piano Black.

From the bonnet to the aerodynamic rear spoiler and the rear apron, the edition-specific, center-running Bonnet Stripe with edition-specific graphics underlines MINI's motorsport history. The MINI John Cooper Works 1to6 Edition embodies the vehicle's irrepressible desire for freedom - on the racetrack or in everyday life. The edition logo in silver, white and red marks the limited-edition character on the exterior with corresponding badges on the C-pillar and the rear of the vehicle and is also embedded in the side scuttles. 18-inch Circuit Spoke rims in Jet Black complete the exceptional look of the edition model.

The door sills with an edition-specific 1to6 logo-design highlight the exclusive character of the interior as soon as the vehicle doors are opened. The 3D-embossed decorative surface on the passenger side echoes the edition logo in a subtle tone-on-tone design, while the black lettering "One of 999" on the left of the steering wheel refers to the strict limited edition of the MINI John Cooper Works 1to6 Edition. The gear shift is located in the middle of the cockpit, featured in the colors of the edition logo with a red background graphic and red leather stitching.

The typical MINI central instrument picks up on the design with the glowing red bezel and, together with the red ambient lighting, creates an atmospheric contrast with the anthracite-colored headliner. The lower spoke of the nappa leather sports steering wheel and the floor mats once again feature the MINI John Cooper Works 1to6 Edition emblem. The edition is rounded off by specific key caps in the 1to6 logo-design.

World premiere at the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring

The dynamic appearance, the deep engine sound and the four-cylinder twinpower turbo unit are just a few of the motorsport-inspired details of the MINI John Cooper Works. They show that everything is about sporty driving and maximum precision. The model's sports suspension was tested on various racetracks, including, of course, the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring. The MINI John Cooper Works 1to6 Edition also stands for legendary go-kart feeling and perfect handling and continues, with its impressive driving characteristics, the legacy of racing legend John Cooper.

Against this background, the world premiere of the limited-edition model will take place at the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring on May 20, 2023. A MINI John Cooper Works of the 1to6 Edition, specially modified for this race, will together with the MINI John Cooper Works of the Bulldog Racing Team continue MINI's tradition-steeped racing history at the race.

From September 2023, the exclusive MINI John Cooper Works 1to6 Edition model will be available in Europe, the USA, Canada and Mexico.

The purist design and the all-electric drivetrain of the new MINI Cooper are consistently geared towards urban driving fun, highlighting the exceptional status of the MINI within its vehicle segment. There is virtually no other vehicle model in the world that has succeeded in accentuating its own history and tradition based on evolutionary advancements while at the same time repeatedly setting new technical standards over a period of more than 60 years of construction. What has remained is the underlying notion of a vehicle that offers the greatest possible space utilisation for passengers despite compact external dimensions. New features include the world of digital experiences, modern assistance systems and a purely electric powertrain that guarantees locally emission-free mobility. As such, the fifth generation is a typical MINI while at the same time symbolising the brand's all-electric future.

"With its electric drive and purist design, the new MINI Cooper is a perfect fit for an urban lifestyle. In the fifth generation of the MINI Cooper, we combine the traditional MINI DNA with innovative, future-oriented technology while enabling locally emission-free driving fun that is typical of MINI," says Stefanie Wurst, Head of MINI.

Charismatic Simplicity: the new MINI design style

The design of the new MINI model generation is modern, digital and unmistakable. With the new MINI family, the brand takes driving fun, the user experience and a responsible attitude forward into a new era. This comprehensive transformation on the way to becoming an all-electric brand by 2030 is reflected in the authentic design of the new models, combining forward-looking technology with the elementary principles of body design and the brand's origins. In doing so, it emphasises the urban character of the MINI along with the sheer joy of innovation.

"Inspired by our history, we have developed our own new design language, defining our DNA. We call it 'Charismatic Simplicity'. The idea behind it is a design that gives each new MINI model a strong, individual character and is characterized by a clear, reduced design language intuitively focused on the essentials of the brand." says Oliver Heilmer, Head of MINI Design.

The exterior: maximum reduction to the essentials

In the new model generation once again, the MINI 3-door embodies the core of the brand. With its fully electric drivetrain, the new MINI Cooper is consistently geared towards urban driving fun, transporting the character of the iconic model into the brand's purely electric future.

The agile and compact silhouette features hallmark MINI proportions: short overhangs, a short bonnet and the contrasting long wheelbase with large wheels give the fifth model generation of the MINI Cooper a fascinating charisma with classic design features. At the same time, this emphasises the athletic impression and underlines the model's contemporary urban orientation.

Details such as the flush door handles and the absence of fender flares and classic side scuttles support the modern design of the exterior by giving the surfaces a striking clarity. This reduction to the essentials places even more emphasis on the body paint finish on the larger body surface. In this way, typical MINI design features such as the visual three-part division of the vehicle body, the all-round window area and the contrasting roof have a greater impact, helping the new design style to take effect.

Striking face with fresh radiance: MINI LED-lights with Signature Modes

In the new model generation, the front end of the all-electric MINI Cooper is once again characterised by the iconic MINI circular headlights and the striking grille. These go together to create the hallmark MINI appearance.

The new octagonal front grille with its filigree contour defines the front section even more powerfully than its hexagonal predecessor. Instead of chrome, the new accent colour Vibrant Silver adds highlights to the exterior, giving the new MINI Cooper an even more expressive appearance.

The daytime running light elements of theLED-lights support this striking look with fresh radiance due to unique light signatures. Horizontal light graphics are part of the Essential Trim. Optionally, the daytime running light elements can be switched to create three adjustable light signatures, thereby emphasising the distinctive character of each vehicle. In addition, all light modes start and end with a specially orchestrated welcome and goodbye animation. This interaction with the MINI Cooper heightens the sense of anticipation for the MINI even before you set off.

Reduced details for a powerful presence and increased dynamic performance

As with the body design as a whole, the front headlights are not framed with chrome elements anymore. This results in the front section having a focused expression. Together with the fascinating curves of the bonnet and the clear-cut design of the front apron, the new MINI 3-door has a distinct and sporty look. This impression is supported by the vehicle's track width and the dynamic indentation at the wheel arches.

The side view of the new MINI Cooper also conveys greater reduction and clarity. For the first time, the model appears without a circumferential Black Band. Reducing the number of components places the body colour more at the centre of interest, thereby ensuring a powerful presence. Black sills visually move the MINI Cooper closer to the road. The vehicle combines a modern take on the hallmark MINI design with outstanding aerodynamic properties. The cd figure of 0.28 is outstanding for the small car segment and makes the MINI extremely efficient.

The new MINI aesthetic also gives the rear section a new, contemporary feel, featuring clear surfaces and flush rear lights. The vertical light clusters quote the classic MINI lights and can be switched to different modes in the same way as the front headlights. The third brake light and rear fog light are integrated flush into the rear design, emphasising the high quality of the sculptured modern rear section. A defined shoulder section gives the MINI Cooper a particularly powerful look. A striking black handle strip divides the rear section, its horizontal orientation highlighting the vehicle's broad stance and the sporty flair that this conveys.

Four individual trims for even more character

The all-electric MINI Cooper is available in four different trims. The Essential Trim presents maximum clarity and a reduced overall appearance, highlighting certain functional parts such as the logo in the new colour Vibrant Silver. The new range of external paint finishes underlines the modernity of the new MINI icon and sets positive accentuations with bright tones such as Sunny Side Yellow.

While the Classic Trim primarily applies to the interior, the Favoured Trim features particularly expressive details on the exterior. This trim variant offers the new, optional Spray-Tech design of the characteristic Multitone Roof with a combination of three different colours as well as a front grille in Vibrant Silver.

The John Cooper Works Trim lends maximum emphasis to the sporty flair of the all-electric MINI Cooper with a distinctive front and rear design. The frame of the front grille and the logo in high-gloss black underline the powerful overall look, while a contrasting roof in Chili Red - inspired by motor sport - and JCW-specific bonnet stripes in red or black optionally lend visual emphasis to the driving dynamics typical of MINI.

The interior: minimalist, digital, immersive & warm

On the inside, the design of the front area echoes the famous minimalist design of the classic Mini. For the first model in 1959, Mini inventor Alec Issigonis designed an interior with a round instrument cluster in the centre and the characteristic toggle bar below. In the new MINI Cooper, it is precisely these two elements, in combination with the steering wheel, that structure the interior with its maximum purist design. Reducing everything to the essentials, the new interior makes do with a smaller number of components that are cleverly designed and implemented to a high standard. Behind the steering wheel, the optional head-up display ensures that all the relevant content appears in the driver's field of vision. As a result, the dashboard on the driver's side does not require an additional display, so it opens up the view to the front.

The amply sized, curved dashboard features textile surfaces for the first time. Warm, pleasant materials characterise the new, homely feel-good atmosphere in the interior of the MINI Cooper. A specially developed knitting process is used to create the versatile, easy-care structure of the textile in two-colour design made of recycled polyester. There is a choice of different colours for the textile surfaces and seats depending on the trim design. To make the dashboard as slim and spacious as possible, the air vents are very flat.

The clear lines and generous space in the front seats give the interior a modern, airy feel, while the optional panoramic glass roof makes the interior particularly bright and friendly. In the dark, the side lighting is based on the ambient light, thereby contributing to a distinctive interior atmosphere. The seats are available in a basic version and in a JCW version, with side panels that are laminated with high-quality textile covering the adjustment buttons. The armrest, mounted on the driver's seat, provides even more space in the centre console. The rear of the vehicle offers maximum reduction and comfort, while the loading accessories can be conveniently stowed in an additional underfloor storage facility in the luggage compartment. By folding down the rear seat in a 60:40 ratio, the luggage compartment can be flexibly expanded from 200 litres to provide a volume of up to 800 litres.

MINI Interaction Unit: High-Res OLED display revolutionises the user experience

The central OLED display sets a new benchmark with its high resolution. Like the round instrument in the predecessor model, the new centre icon is the defining feature of the interior with its versatile functions. As an instrument cluster, the MINI Interaction Unit is a centre of both experience and comfort. Thanks to MINI Operating System 9, all vehicle functions can be operated intuitively with touch or voice control. The display in the redesigned cockpit has been moved closer to the driver so it is particularly convenient to reach. The diameter of the thin touch display with a high-quality glass edge has grown to 240 mm. Its operating logic is reminiscent of the standards familiar from smartphones.

The graphic presentation of the content is modern and focuses on the essentials. The upper area contains relevant vehicle-related information such as speed and battery status. When the speed indicator is pressed, a large, striking display with full-screen speedometer appears that puts a clear focus on driving. In the Home menu, the other widgets are displayed in thumbnail view to the left and right of the current menu function. They can be brought up and selected by swiping horizontally to the centre. In the lower area of the OLED display, the menu items Navigation, Media, Phone and Climate can be selected directly at any time. All other functions can be accessed via the menu in the same way as on a smartphone. The display returns to the default setting via the home button.

A whole new MINI experience: the new MINI Experience Modes

The MINI Experience Modes, Core, Green and Go-Kart, each with their specific user interface design, are available as standard, with up to four additional modes available with the MINI Experience Modes optional equipment. The optional MINI projector on the back of the OLED display immerses the dashboard in matching colour schemes and patterns. The interplay of projection, ambient lighting and the MINI Interaction Unit results in a unique, immersive experience that extends into the door panels.

This immersive user experience makes the interior even more expressive based on new solutions, thereby giving rise to entirely new individualisation options in the new MINI Cooper. In Personal Mode, for example, an individually selected image can be set as the display background via the MINI App. The dominant colours of the image then extend across the textile dashboard surfaces by means of a digital colour picker. The ambient lighting under the dashboard and in the door mirror is also colour-coded to match these projections.

Each mode has specially designed backgrounds that convey a vibrant and high-quality effect by means of subtle movements while remaining as distraction-free as possible. When one of the seven modes is selected, the display focuses on a relevant "Mode App". In Go-Kart Mode there is a highly dynamic focus on MINI's racing DNA, for example. The display and the interior as a whole feature the colours anthracite and red, while specific analogue displays for driving dynamics complement this MINI Experience Mode inspired by John Cooper Works. Vivid Mode draws on the colours of the album cover for the ambient lighting. Core Mode, Green Mode, Timeless Mode, Balance Mode and Personal Mode are also available for selection according to mood and personal needs.

New taillights are weird, and it's noticeably larger than the prior model, and enormous compared to the classic Mini.

With 218 electrically generated hp (160 kW) and 330 Newton metres of maximum torque, the MINI Cooper SE is way out in front with zero emissions, especially with its ability to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. The high-voltage battery installed in the MINI Cooper SE with an energy content of 54.2 kWh enables a range of up to 402 kilometres as determined in the WLTP test cycle. To give your MINI a particularly sporty look it can be ordered in John Cooper Works Trim. With many details the equipment variant emphasises the brand's motorsport genes - achieved through numerous racing successes, including three victories at the Monte Carlo Rally in the 1960s.

"The all-electric MINI Cooper SE in the new John Cooper Works Trim combines a passion for iconic design, legendary performance and sustainable mobility. It is the epitome of efficiency and driving pleasure", says Stefanie Wurst, Head of the MINI brand.

Individual front and rear design with a motorsport look

The new John Cooper Works logo, which is characterised by clear outlines, stands out particularly well with its traditional red, white and black colour scheme and the symbolised chequered flag on the octagonal front grille. The powerful appearance of the MINI Cooper SE in JCW Trim is achieved, among other things, by 18-inch wheels in Lap Spoke 2-tone design with ten spokes each and JCW brake callipers in eye-catching red. Bonnet stripes on the body emphasise the sporty character.

As standard the MINI Cooper SE in JCW Trim includes striking diffusers at the front and rear. The radiator grille surround and logo are finished in high-gloss black. Visual highlights include the contrasting roof and the mirror caps in Chilli Red.

The MINI LED headlights have individual light signatures. With the selected JCW signature, the front lights only show two horizontal stripes as daytime running lights and emphasise the minimalist design of the new MINI Cooper SE. The graphics of the matrix rear lights underline the width of the rear of the vehicle.

Racing-inspired interior

The JCW seats combine synthetic leather with red stitching and multi-coloured knitted material in the shoulder section. The black and red colour concept is continued on the 2d-knit covering the interior of the door and the dashboard - the passenger side of which is adorned with the JCW-specific pattern in style of a chequered flag.

The central, high-resolution OLED display with a diameter of 240 mm bundles vehicle-related data and provides information on navigation, media, telephone and climate settings. With the MINI Experience Modes, it offers new possibilities for individualisation. These include the John Cooper Works-inspired GO-KART Mode, which colours the display and interior lighting anthracite red. In addition to the special GO-KART sound, the optimised throttle response of the accelerator pedal in this mode enhances the sporty driving experience.

New driver assistance systems and efficient charging

With 12 ultrasonic sensors and four surround cameras, Parking Assistant Plus simplifies parking and identifies free parking spaces. The advanced EXPLORE Mode offers a unique solution for this vehicle segment: it allows parking via smartphone without the driver having to sit in the MINI. A significant plus in convenience when parking space is tight at the side.

Fast charging with direct current is possible with up to 95 kW. This means that the battery can be charged from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in just under 30 minutes at a quick-charging station. The high-voltage battery is charged with 11 kW using alternating current. When navigation is activated, the high-voltage battery of the MINI Cooper SE is prepared to the ideal temperature for efficient charging depending on the weather conditions. The advantage: a significantly shorter charging time, especially at low outside temperatures.

Way out in front of what?

This thing actually looks really cool both inside and out. Just wish they'd give it some more juice.

The fifth generation of the MINI Cooper stands for simplicity at its charismatic best. Typical MINI proportions evoke the brand's history. Together with the striking front grille, they give the new model its distinctive face. Minimalist design, digital innovations and an immersive user experience are the hallmarks of the interior.

Within the new model family, MINI designates the performance levels of its petrol engines for the MINI Cooper using the letter C and for the performance-enhanced model using the letter S. The attractive powertrain portfolio of the new three-door MINI is thus complemented by two efficient petrol engines with a choice of three or four cylinders. The brand's iconic go-kart feeling is brought to the road in the new generation MINI. The MINI Cooper's minimalist design is a combination of traditional brand values and impressive clarity.

"At MINI, 'Power of Choice" means that in addition to all-electric MINI models, we also offer models such as the new MINI Cooper with petrol engine. The car is ideal for all those people who want to drive a classic MINI 3-door and appreciate the traditional performance and characteristic sound of a combustion engine," says Stefanie Wurst, Head of MINI.

The interior focuses on typical MINI, minimalist design and new materials. Technical innovations such as the MINI Operating System 9, the new MINI Experience Modes and a wide range of digital functions create an immersive user experience.

Two powerful drive variants

With an output of 150 kW/204 hp, the four-cylinder engine of the MINI Cooper S accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds with a maximum torque of 300 Nm. The 115 kW/156 hp three-cylinder engine of the MINI Cooper C delivers a torque of 230 Nm and accelerates the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds.

The MINI Cooper is equipped with a suspension and damping system designed for agile handling. The precise typical MINI steering combined with powerful brakes ensures a high level of driving pleasure, safety and comfort.

The exterior: cult status included

With a puristic design and compact silhouette, the MINI Cooper is the embodiment of the brand's basic idea: maximum driving pleasure with a minimal ecological footprint. The contemporary minimalism of the new design characterises the clear surfaces of the body. Short overhangs and a short bonnet contrast with the long wheelbase, giving the car typical MINI proportions.

At the front, the new octagonal grille with its filigree contours defines the MINI Cooper's characteristic face even more. The BMW Group's smallest radar sensor to date is positioned on the horizontal strut between the air intakes. A total of 12 ultrasonic sensors in the MINI Cooper support the driver assistance systems and increase driving safety.

Horizontal LED daytime running lights underline the new appearance in the standard setting. The striking appearance is further enhanced by three selectable light signatures for the daytime running lights of the MINI LED headlights and the redesigned matrix rear lights.

All three selectable light signatures begin and end with a specially orchestrated welcome or goodbye animation.

The interior: classic, innovative, MINI

The MINI Cooper's elegant, minimalist interior design is inspired by the classic Mini. The new steering wheel, the round OLED Display, the typical MINI toggle bar and the two-tone textile dashboard create a sense of spaciousness in the cockpit. Clean lines are the hallmark of the modern interior with its generous amount of space. The panoramic glass roof adds to the bright and friendly atmosphere. By folding down the rear seat in a 60:40 ratio, the luggage compartment can be flexibly expanded from 210 litres to provide a volume of up to 725 litres.

The most important driving functions (parking brake, gear selector, start/stop key, experience mode toggle, volume control) are directly accessible via the distinctive toggle bar. The gear selector in the center console makes way for the new Wireless Charging Shelf 2.0. Smartphones can be stored here and charged wirelessly.

The MINI Interaction Unit has been moved closer to the driver in the MINI Cooper cockpit. The diameter of the high-resolution, thin OLED display with high-quality glass edge is 240 mm. Its operating logic is similar to that of a smartphone and can be operated intuitively by touch.

Relevant vehicle-related information, such as speed and fuel consumption, is displayed at the top of the screen. In the main menu, the functions are arranged horizontally as widgets and can be selected by swipe and touch. In the lower area of the OLED display, the menu items Navigation, Media, Telephone and Climate can be selected directly at any time.

Digital innovations for an immersive user experience

As part of the optional MINI Experience Modes, two projector units beam various illuminated graphics onto the dashboard. The interplay of visual design, ambient lighting and sound design changes the appearance of the cockpit and opens up new possibilities for personalising the MINI Cooper.

Each mode has its own dynamic background and can be selected according to the driver's personal preferences. In personal mode, an personal photo can be set as the display background via the MINI app. The dominant colours of the photo then extend across the textile surfaces of the dashboard and the door panels as illuminated graphics.

Drive safely, arrive relaxed

The new MINI Cooper offers numerous driver assistance systems for safe and comfortable driving pleasure. As standard, the Safe Exit function monitors the area around the parked vehicle and warns approaching road users before the door is opened. The function not only delays the unlocking of the doors, but also uses light signals outside the vehicle to warn of a possible collision.

On the road, the MINI Navigation package optionally provides support with 3D visualisation and Augmented View, displays the current traffic situation, provides information about parking options including digital payment options, and much more besides. Camera and radar-based assistance functions increase safety by supporting steering and lane keeping as part of the comprehensive Driving Assistant Plus package. Automatic speed and distance control makes city driving even more comfortable.

Just say "Hey MINI" to activate the MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant (IPA) on the OLED display. A 3D visualisation then appears in the form of a "car" avatar or the digital MINI companion "Spike". Interacting with the MINI IPA, the driver can use his voice to control a wide range of options such as navigation, telephony, entertainment and other vehicle functions.

The innovative MINI Digital Key Plus function turns the smartphone into the car key via the MINI app. The welcome animation of the front and rear lights begins as soon as the driver is less than three metres away; the doors are unlocked when the driver is at a distance of less than one and a half metres. This convenient vehicle experience can be digitally transferred to different users, including their personal vehicle settings.

Four trims for an individual look

The new Essential, Classic, Favoured and JCW trim variants offer a wide range of customisation options. Depending on the trim, the new MINI Cooper C and MINI Cooper S are available with different body paint finishes and interior trims.

The colours can be combined with one of four roof colours and create a variety of contrasts. An exclusive option in conjunction with the Favoured Trim package is the Spray-Tech design of the distinctive Multitone Roof. This features a three-colour gradient. New, aerodynamically optimised designs are available for the 16-inch to 18-inch aluminium rims.

Cooper S, with no hood scoop, no visible exhaust, very meh IMO.
And no mention of a MT option.

Based on that interior I don't think a MT is in the cards for this one.

That's a real bummer. Maybe the JCW will get it, not that I'm looking into one. I'd probably go R56 hatch.
I really like the R53, but have heard that the S/C almost surely needs a rebuild/refresh/replace every 80k or so.

The fully electric MINI Cooper combines a modern, ecological drive with brand-typical driving pleasure. Like the entire new MINI model family, the MINI Cooper E is also available in four redesigned vehicle trims. The Classic Trim offers expressive body colors and contrasting roof finishes. The puristic design of the iconic MINI three-door model is particularly expressive in Sunny Side Yellow, with a contrasting roof and mirror caps in white.

In this trim level, the surfaces of the cockpit are covered with two-tone black and blue knit material. This creates a stylish contrast to the high-quality synthetic leather seats made of Vescin. They are available in gray or black with a perforated houndstooth pattern.

"With the new all-electric MINI Cooper E, we are offering a great entry-level option into the new MINI family. Its 184 hp guarantees exciting agility and exciting acceleration without any sacrifices." says Stefanie Wurst, head of MINI.

Emotional driving pleasure and fast charging

The direct handling of the sporty steering wheel brings maximum emotions to the cockpit. An increased track width and a longer wheelbase optimize dynamics in demanding driving situations. The brand-typical go-kart feeling is maximized by the direct power delivery of the electric motor.

With an energy content of 40.7 kWh, the MINI Cooper E battery achieves a range of 305 kilometers in the WLTP test cycle.

On the road, 28 minutes of charging with a DC output of up to 75 kW is enough to charge the MINI Cooper E battery from 10 to 80 percent.

The 135 kW/184 hp electric drive can access the maximum torque of 290 Nm at any time. As a result, the vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds.

Distinctive exterior with an urban orientation

Typical MINI proportions shape the vehicle's silhouette. The compact dimensions make handling easier as well as the search for a parking space.

At the front, the MINI round headlights and the octagonal front grille form the characteristic MINI face. With unique light signatures, the LED headlights accentuate the distinctive appearance of the MINI Cooper E. Various, aerodynamically optimized designs are available for rim sizes ranging from 16 to 18 inches.

More comfort and safety in city traffic

Active Cruise Control automatically controls the distance to the vehicle in front and continuously monitors the road. In this way, potentially dangerous situations in heavy traffic can be identified at an early stage. The Parking Assistant automatically recognizes parking spaces and takes over the automatic parking process at the push of a button.
