Really I like this design it looks like a cross between the new c class and the new s class. I think they did a good job. But I always liked A6s better I wonder what the next A6 will look like.

I don't see any big resemblance of sonata in the new E.

Maybe it's the grainy photo that's doing it, but the interior looks like it's from a 1990's car GM car.

Funny thing is, if sonata was released prior to this mercedes, everyone would accuse of Hyundai copying their rims and rear..

Wow!!! Let's look at how amazingly alike (NOT!) the MB's rear fascia is to the Hyundai's ripoff of the Accord's design. Wow, it has two tail lights and dual exhaust and an area for the license plate. WOOT!!!!

Clearly everyone is going to confuse the new E class for the Sonata.

Yeah it looks more Lexus to me. I see GS/IS in the front and ES/LS in the rear. The interior looks like a combination of Lexus and BMW...

i dont see the point of comparing it to anything. so a Hyundai design takes precedence to a MB?

do you see people critiquing buildings saying that it is a Wright or a Gehry knockoff?

a well established automaker is adding design techniques to new vehicles in an attempt to brand their line-up. Not in an attempt to copy other automakers. whatever cues you find on this E Class will most likely find their way to other MB cars in some type of form. the design is per line-up, not per car.

as opposed to hyundai, who is NOT yet established, and targets each vehicle per its competitive market. thats when you find hyundai cars ripping off competitors' designs. its a way of stealing sales from high selling cars like an accord, etc. can you honestly find multiple design cues across hyundais lineup? no.

this does not work the other way around for established automakers like MB, Audi, etc etc. they arent stealing a handful of design elements and slapping it on ONE of their cars. thats not a way to brand a uniformed design across the board.

Holy Hyundai Sonata. Personally, I think the rear looks even more Hyundai-ish than the front.

This is really sad. The last gen E class was a very good looking car. This one is not only generic, but cheap looking.

I'm with you in principle. By this time, it's pretty true that all designs are derivative to a certain extent (unless you're building a Pontiac Aztek or something just as ugly).

That said, it's a big problem for Mercedes when people look at their new mid-size bread and butter sedan and mistake it for a Hyundai.

A convergence of styling cues is one thing. Making your car look lower end - regardless of what it does or doesn't resemble - is just bad design.

thanks for the acknowledgment. however, i never said it looked good

guess MB has to hope that potential MB buyers have such disregard and unfamiliarity with hyundai that they wont even be able to make the connection in resemblance.

Yeah, what's up with the craptastic angles? The previous generation's interior were so much more elegant and softer looking.

Click above for a high-res gallery of the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

After various reports and some leaked images, M-B took the wraps off the the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class at a private event in Detroit. While the new E won't make its public debut until March at the Geneva Motor Show, we were on hand in Motown to get the details straight from the company that Karl Benz built.

We've said plenty about the E's new conservative sheetmetal and exterior elements, including the ConceptFASCINATION-inspired front-end and sedate, uninspired rump. Depending on spec, the new E-class will feature either twin foglamps or angular LEDs, trapezoidal or oval exhaust tips and a host of wheel options. The overall length has been stretched by half an inch to just under 16 feet, while the width has grown by 1.26 inches, the wheelbase is up 0.8-inches and height is half-an-inch taller than the outgoing model. Torsional rigidity is up by 30% and the new E is more aerodynamic, along with packing 11 standard airbags.

The 2010 model shows considerable promise inside, with an interior that evolves the C-class and GLK's angular aesthetic and attempts to bring more of that bomb-proof feel that Benz was known for in the past. The transmission selector can be had on either the console or the steering column, ala S-class, with the COMAND controller placed on the center divider and some of the seat controls moving to the sides, next to the transmission tunnel.

The new E features enough gadgetry to sooth even the most weary CES attendee, beginning with a new standard system called Attention Assist that keeps track of steering angle and alerts the driver if they're getting drowsy with an audible alert and a coffee-cup icon on the dash. Lane departure warning is optional, along with adaptive high-beam headlights that dim when oncoming traffic is approaching, radar-based cruised control, blind-spot monitoring and infrared night vision.

When the 2010 E-class goes on sale this summer, buyers can choose from either a direct-injected, 292-hp 3.5-liter V6 (E350) or a 388-hp 5.5-liter V8 (E500), both mated to a standard seven-speed automatic gearbox. 4MATIC models will arrive later, along with the E63 variant, and the 211 hp, 3.0-liter Bluetech diesel variant with urea injection is slated to go on sale at the end of the year.

Eh... I've stared at the pics of this car long enough. I officially don't like it's looks. It's just a chiseled look of the last gen car; I don't like the double fog lights on some of the models; I don't like the MB design interiors of their new cars... oh well.

Double foglights is just looking, not good on a luxury car.

The new E-Class looks a little bigger. Our current E-Class is massive enough and weighs like an elephant. I can't imagine how big the new one is.

Head on it looks good. But from every other angle, I do not like it one bit. Especially the silhouette, it's very upright in the cabin area.
