Mercedes E-Class To Get A Face Lift

Auto Motor und Sport has published an article today outlining what they believe we can expect to see in the forthcoming 2009 Mercedes E-Class.

According to the story, prospective E-Class owners can expect to see a slight facelift in 2006, to help combat the widely-spread "quality issues" we hear about so often.

The real facelift, however, won't come until 2009. If Auto Motor und Sport is correct (and they usually are fairly accurate), one of the most notable differences we'll see in the E-Class' newest incarnation will be redesigned front headlights. Gone are the oval headlights E-Class owners have come to love, replaced by a slightly more tear-drop shape. Another major difference is the overall stance of the vehicle - the new E-Class features a more agressive, almost "CLS" style design.

As for the interior, the new E-Class will benefit from an increase in lenth of 20mm. The added length in combination with a re-organized interior will provide occupants with greater feeling comfort and spaciousness. A couple other interior highlights include a newly-designed instrument cluster, to help accomodate the night-vision screen (similar to the 2007 S-Class), as well as a hinged Command plus system screen, to avoid detracting from the look of the other interior design elements.

If you're wondering what will power the next E, expect to see similar powerplants to the ones currently offered. Mercedes will keep the four-cylinder variants, starting with a 175 hp gas engine, and will produce powerplants all the way up to a 500+ horsepower AMG version. Of course, you can also expect to see 4-MATIC and wagon versions as well.

It looks great, IMO. I hope they can keep the design close to the sketches above.

New BMW 5-Series and Mercedes E-Class Spy Photos - - by Hans G. Lehmann - - Source: http://www.germancarfans.com/

DaimlerChrysler’s E-Class model has been on the market since March 2002 and is about to get a restyling due for launch a year earlier than its competitor, in July 2006. The photos are showing a sedan without disguise from all angles. [Editor's Note: a very minor strip of tape was removed by computer]

The modifications include a new front grille with thicker ribs, a front skirt with three air intakes , mildly modified headlights and a new taillight design. Furthermore rumours say that the current SBC brake system is to be replaced by a conventional one.

For some reason those wheels look like they're only 15" in the last two pics.

I actually like that. But I like the current ones, with the chrome accents inside the taillights, better.

2007 Mercedes E-Class facelift uncovered

Spy photographers at Automedia captured a Mercedes E-Class sedan and wagon sans disguise during a commercial shoot. The updated model was first revealed by Leftlane News in January with a single grainy photo. The car gets a new front fascia and updated taillights. The car will be officially unveiled at the New York Auto Show next month. It will be the last revision to the current E-Class before an all new 2008 or 2009 model arrives.

^ It remains a great looking car after all these years. I think the refresh is a good one; subtle but crisp. With the facelift, they'll be able to coast until the next version comes out.

horrible. the only thing that looks good is the visible tailpipes. the front bumper looks busy, tails look cheap, and the wheels are ugly.

They're going to keep them, but they'll be much more stylish; less oval.

I thought this gen. E-Class looked good when it came out, and I still do. But the interior really needs to be reworked in light of the advances in interiors of the A6,RL, GS.

Sit in one. The new RL feels much more plush compared to the E-Class.

Ready for Launch

Daimler Chrysler is about to give a facelift to the E-Class model which has been on the market since 2003. It is due for launch at the New York Motor Show next month.

These photos are showing both a station wagon and a sedan prototype in full showroom trim during a shooting of a commercial. The restyling includes new head and taillights, front grille and a revised front bumper with new fog lights.

The engine line up for the revamped E-Class will be even more significant than the styling changes. The 5.5 litre V8 fitted to the recently revised SL 500 will replace the old 5.0 litre, and the E 350 benefits from a small increase in power.

The RL has leather in more of the cockpit than the E-Class does. Just look at the headrests alone. There is also more padding where there is leather, like on the doors. You can feel the difference, if you've sat in the two back to back.

Now, care to offer your opinion, without being an ass that is?

The E-class with full leather extends to the back and side of the front seats, whereas the RL's is leatherette.

5 Series, A6, M Series, hell even an STS or RL, anyday over this. Overpriced for what you get IMO, not that the 5 isn't. But, when you buy a 5, you buy BMW's work.

A tremendous amount of research goes into MB's S and E cars. They're almost too techladen. Sometimes, they're work backfires (like the brake-by-wire system). That said, when you by MB, you're also buying MB's "work."

I didn't know that. But from my butt rating, the RL's seats are much more comfortable than the E320 I sat in a the auto show. I don't know if there would be a significant improvement if real leather were used in those areas.

And as I said before, feel the padding on the RL's arm rest, headrests, doors...it's more plush than the E-Class, which feels like just leather over hard plastic. The look of plushness is there, the feel, however, isn't on the E-Class.

I have sat in both. I was considering buying both because i had a family discount ... I decided to wait for the new models or until I had enough for a CLS. Anyway I liked the E class better ... kthxbye

no CLUE what you mean by this. The auto shows car must have sucked or something. The leather in the E350 I considered was TOP KNOTCH.

Yeah, I agree with you about the RL being a little plusher then the E-class. One thing I don't like about the E-class's interior is the armrest or lack thereof (it now has a wood sliding door that replaced the padded armrest that was in the '03-'04 model years). Aesthetically it may look nicer then a padded armrest but it gets uncomfortable over long trips.
