Since all of you are going "WTF" to the "4 door coupe" thing, let me try to explain my interpretation of it, which seems to make enough sense.

They mean it's a sedan, built like a coupe. The rear windshield and trunk lid form one smooth curve as opposed to a curve for the rear windshield and then a rectangular trunk lid sticking out, like all other MB sedans have. Of course, this isn't the most accurate definition of it, but it's the first one that comes to mind.

About the car... the headlights scream upper scale Toyota/lower scale Lexus to me... maybe the next gen CLS will have the headlights pulled further back, maybe until half the length of the hood is just the lights? Head-on looks like the CLK had this car after being impregnated by the SC430. Profile is an orgy of the Maxima, current CLK, the new E, with a bit of the new 5 series thrown in for good measure.

Mercedes interiors, however, can't be beat.

 

Soopa, why doesn't the RX8 have rear doors? The fact that they are suicide doors, does not mean they are not rear doors. Right?

 

The side sorta looks like the Lexus ES300 and the headlights are a little like the Infiniti Fuga.

the whole coupe thing is a little rediculous, they're trying to create a new class of car just by saying it is this new class of car-"Thus, the four-door vehicle clearly offers a great deal more added value than other coupés" yea umm cause its a sedan. competing against coupes using a sedan just so they can say they have more features, what will they think of next, an suv thats really a sedan but offers more than typical sedans?

 

 

Wow the triangle sticking out on the rear door sure is odd.
Strike that, the whole car looks odd. It's like they just added two more doors to a CL as an afterthought. Rear reminds me of a Sable.

Sure does look like it'd be a very comfy cruiser though!

 

looks kinda weird but its hott in its own respect. i think itll sell and itll sell well. its like nothing anyone has and we all know at some point you buy a benz for status and to stand out. this car def looks like it will do that. will it be the CLS Klasse or is there another name in the works?

btw, does it have dual exhaust? i cant tell from the picture. i hate single exhaust and on the CLK it really lowers the style of that car.

 

I think it is duel, i can kinda see one sticking out the other side. Anyway, i think it looks better then the concept version, maby its just the pics i saw of it, but it looks hot. I still dont realy see the point of this car though, its just a sleeker S class... I dont like the rear end, esepcialy the tail lights, it does look kinda like a sabel. The interior is hot, but what the hell is with the little side window on the rear door....that looks horrible, though it would be cool if that went down also.

i think the point is for it to be a 6 series alt. lower in price than the CL, equiped like an S, more refined than the CLK. the 4 door coupe thing im thinking is a lil ploy thing for people who want the size and capabilities and luxury of the 6 but want more room and easier access to the rear seats.

 

oh yeah, after thinking about it. i'd roll in one. its a slick lookin car. it def looks like itll have road presence.

Kind of confused, where is this in their lineup? Wont it be competing with the E class if it is below the S class.

Kind of like it, but reminds me of a lot of other cars. Just does not scream mercedes to me like their other models do.

Thats a hot mercedes though. Wouldn't be at the top of my list, but its pretty nice looking.

I love it, though it has no Benz proportions what so ever. Looks japanese, slap Lexus or Infiniti on it and you couldn't tell it's a Benz.

like i said, its a coupe. look at it like a RX8 approach to the coupe. the back two doors are to provide better access to the rear seats, that is all. it is not a sedan. the sweeping lines and the general build of the cabin is coupe, this just has 4 doors. it is a 4 door coupe. it doesnt sit between S and E class, its under the CL and above the CLK. if i remember correctly, its a 6 series competitor.

 

Nothing else makes torque like a diesel. I wonder it this straight six turbodiesel isn't a warmed over Mercedes truck engine?

The French vanilla interior looks a little effeminate. Or, as the guy on Top Gear would say, it looks like Liberace's boudoir.
