It says that MB will use their DTM experience to let AMG produce a road version of the CLK-GTR. The same 5.5 V8 that is used in DTM will output 610 ponnies. The aim is to essentially crush cars like the M3 CSL.

They also mention that the picture shows the first protoype being tested on the road... and they go on about describing the agressive look of the car (skirts, front lip, etc.). Production is expected to be very limited.

go against the m3 csl???? go right ahead because theres a lot more behind BMW than most people know that thing isnt gonna be able to compete with the newer models that BMW is gonna put out. Plus how is it supposed to be even in the same class as a CSL if it cost as much as it does???

Exactly ... strip out a C32 (and add a manual tranny) and then perhaps we can talk.

This car is going to be way more expensive than the CSL

1. Why cant this go against the CSL? What is it missing?

2. How much does it cost? Sounds like you know.

We dont even know how much the CSL costs, let alone this car above which is not even finished. Why do you guys rush to judgement?

The C is a 4 door sedan. The M3 is a 2 door coupe. The CLK is a 2 door coupe so it was chosen correctly.

Gav you seriously think that a 600 hp benz is gonna be the same price as a 360 hp CSL? if you think that then your a little off in the head. Its pretty obvious that its not gonna be anywhere close to the same price as a CSL......oh and tell benz to stop making automatics......makes the worst driver in the world look good.

All I said is we dont know what the prices of BOTH vehicles are. If it's gonna compete with the CSL, the Mercedes is probably going to introduce similar pricing. Maybe not. We'll see.

That attack is really not necessary. It's only making things negative.

Tell Benz? What? Do you think I work for them or something? What's the matter with you?

yea you prolly would cuz all it does is show your lack of driving skills! Almost anyone can hop into one of those and beat someone on the road......at least come up with F1 shifting like ferrari i mean that even harder IMO.

Apology accepted...

We'll see about the price. Mercedes cars are traditionaly about 10% more expensive than BMW competitors, and that is what I think is going to happen in this case.

In case you didn't pick up on it, I was relaying the information which is emblazed across the cover of the DECEMBER 2003 issue of EUROPEAN CAR ...

it would be sooo nice if you people who don't understand the English language would resist from making yourselves look so stupid each and every time you decide to comment on something that you obviously have no real information about. If you know something that contradicts what I posted, say as much, and identify your source. otherwise, go back to your playpen and try to resist engageing in the infantile name-calling route.

fm pg 54: "But, despite the fact that the CSL name was instrumental in establishing the BMW brand in the U.S. through the IMSA series in the '70s, gte M3 CSL won't make it over the Atlantic. The thousand of road test miles necessary to meet U.S. homologation laws can take anywhere between a year and 18 months to complete, and M simple didn't have the patience for that. "

Reported prices: English pounds - 58,455
Euro - 58,000

STFU. It doesn't say shit about my driving skills. And if it makes it easier to beat someone, so be it - that's what I'm paying for. I'm not that great w/ three pedals now, but I'm sure with a lil time I could clean it up fine. My point is that I don't want to mess with the shifting while driving. If you do - fine - but that doesn't make me a bad driver just b/c I want to let the car shift for me. Mercedes has a sport shift mode if you want to play around, but if it slows you down - why bother?

the front of the car looks really nice, but im not digging the wheel wells. Looks like a cheap wide body kit, i wish it flowed with the car a little more.

as far as not having a manual tranny, I would not mind it as much if it came with their new 7 speed and was very aggresively ratioed.

Yea well drive ur ass down here with a manual car and we'll drive it around my city one day. You'll be begging for either a new clutch or an auto by the time we get done.

Autos are just my preference. No need to get jealous when autos are kicking manual car's asses.

i love my stick, but I hate it when there is bad bumper to bumper traffic. What I really want is a car with the traditional stick shift and a option for the slush box

Traffic is only part of it - it's also the fucked up road construction, idiot drivers, idiot roads, etc.

Also, when did I say I didn't know how to drive a stick? I just said I wasn't good at it. I know how to work the stick just fine. I'm just not gonna race anyone. So you just keep your manual and keep trying to convince yourself that it somehow makes you a better driver b/c you have to take your hand off the wheel every once in a while. I don't race on a track man. I want a nice smooth ride everyday. I also want some kick ass power. Benz is dishing that up nicely these days.

I don't want to have to shift all the time while driving. It's my personal preference, so STFU about it. Even the new SLR is an auto, so there must be something good about autos.

If you have ever seen a REAL race with the driver's feet camera, you will see that there is SOOOOOOOO much more to racing than just steering the car. Proper dowshifting and heel-toe is half the race

Like I said, I'm not racing on a track. I know exactly what goes into it, I see the vids. I just want a nice ride, and nice power. He seems like half the guys that argue about manuals. ApocalypseCL just sounds like half the guys I hear agruing about manuals thinking that it makes them superior drivers, w/e. I'd really like to see some track number from the Benz w/ it's 7 speed auto vs. a BMW, etc w/ it's manual. The thing about it is we're talking about a production road automobile here, not a track car. Almost any track car is going to stomp a street car. So what?

I'll get back to ya if I start racing...

SMG then? Ferarri has that slick hydraulic shift too.
