Dude, it's a C Class The current AMG C-Class makes around 370HP. So that's 40 more horses.
In addition, I am expecting the AMG C-class to get the 6.3L NA engine from the ML63, etc. So it has got to make more power than 410HP (which is already more than the current AMG model).

The horsepower wars are insane. We'll probably see a 1000hp S-Class by the end of the decade.

Heck of a straight line car no doubt, but as Jean Todt has said (most likely speaking of AMG) some manufacturers put in engines that overwhelm the chassis. Now if they match the Audi or better yet the BMW chassis THEN they will have a WHALE of a car. But then I don't think they will put it into production.

AMG Tuned V6s are fading away....
C36- Inline 6
C43 - V8
C32 - SC'd V6
C55 - V8
SLK55
S55
CLK55
SL55
CL55
G55
M55
E55
and many more with V12 65s
I wonder how much C55 would produce if they put the SC'd V8 that E55 and etc. has...
around 469hps range??

Details are beginning to trickle out of Stuttgart on the 2008 Mercedes-Benz C-class. Drawing design cues from the next S-class (due next year), the third-generation C-class—seen above in an artist’s interpretation of spy photos—will ditch the four round headlamps and conservative sheetmetal of the current car in search of more dynamic and daring styling. First up to bat in spring 2007 will be the sedan, followed by a five-door wagon that fall. A softtop convertible and a coupe debut in 2008.
Like the exterior, the interior will be completely redesigned. Of note is the updated Comand system, which will incorporate a center controller similar to those of rivals BMW and Audi in their iDrive and MMI systems.
Engines for the United States are likely to include 2.5-, 3.0-, and 3.5-liter V-6s, all mated to either a six-speed manual or a six- or seven-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive will remain an option for all C-class models.
The obligatory AMG version will be powered by a 408-hp, 5.5-liter V-8. Also possible is a limited-edition, 476-hp C63 AMG, which would compete with the likes of the Audi RS4.

more than likely its the grille emblem thats coming off. Traditionally, the C, E and S keeps the hood ornament and the couples (CLK, SLK, CLS, SL, CL) and SUVs (ML, G, R) for the grille treatment

New Mercedes C-Class Spied with Less Camo - - Source: http://www.germancarfans.com/
Seen here for the first time testing with less disguising than we had snapped before is the new 2008 Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Expect official unveiling at Geneva 2007 with sales starting shortly after. Also expect the wagon to arrive 6 months later in the Autumn. Our sources state a cabriolet soft-top and coupe are also planned which we can only interpret as being the new CLK-Class which is also based on the same platform.
Although it will share more of its components than before with the larger E-Class, the next C will be much sharper to drive and more distinctive as a range in its own right. Mercedes-Benz is to position it as a true small sports saloon, rather than simply a smaller answer to the E. Air suspension or active body control have been ruled out due to cost restraints. Base engine will be a direct injection 4-cylinder 1.8-litre with varying horsepower from 150 to 190. Horsepower for the 2.5- and 3.5-litre V6 will be 210 to 270 respectively. AMG's 5.4-litre will be revised with new horsepower rating up from today's 360 to 400-410bhp to compete with the Audi RS4 and future BMW M3. Also a 3.0-litre diesel is planned as well as the new iDrive-like operating concept found in the new S-Class. 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system will also remain available as well.

So now that the current C class is on its way out where will its remains be reborn in the DCX lineup? Let's see - left over E class parts make up the 300/Charger/Magnum so that means the C class parts will be recycled for the next ... .. . . ..

Why? Why the sculpted, super aggressive body with headlamps shaped like tears? Fuck you, MB. I had hope for this iteration of the C. Now it'll just be another ugly, monstrously fast car.
P.S. It looks like an RL. And much bigger/heftier than the outgoing model.

I love the last pic. If that's the next C, it'll look like a beast. They should drop the 4cyl. for the USM, IMHO. The 2.5 should be the base engine.
