too bad there won't be any more C32... the C55, although making more power without any charging.... just won't be as fucking cool.
but imagine if you could do something F/I to that 5.5 liter V8.... inside a C-class.
can we say... high 10s with tweaks, a manual tranny, and a great driver?

Just as an FYI though, Mercedes is extensively using manual trannies in all its cars in Europe. So do all European players. Autos are a lot less popular there.

Mercedes-Benz C 55 AMG: The most sporty C-Class ever - made by Mercedes-AMG - - - Posted by: kak on Monday, February 16, 2004 - 02:17 PM CET
An AMG V8 engine with 5.5 litres of displacement, 270 kW/367 hp and 510 Nm of torque - Mercedes-AMG GmbH is rolling out its most sporty C-Class ever: the new C 55 AMG. With these figures, the AMG high-performance car has posted new records for its segment. The eight-cylinder top model guarantees excellent driving performance and ensures the very best in driving pleasure thanks to the AMG SPEEDSHIFT five-speed automatic transmission that employs steering-wheel shifting.
Engine: Large-displacement eight-cylinder power package
- Maximum power: 270 kW/367 hp at 5,750 rpm
- Maximum torque: 510 Nm at 4,000 rpm
- Optimal value: 5,439 cc displacement
- More than three decades of motor racing at AMG: V8 with a high-tech design
Superior performance and torque as well as high technology straight from the race track - the large-displacement eight-cylinder power package in the new C 55 AMG is sure to thrill auto lovers the world over. The AMG V8 with 5,439 cc displacement provides 270 kW/367 hp at 5,750 rpm and develops a maximum torque of 510 Nm at 4,000 rpm. No other vehicle in this competitive segment produces such impressive figures.
At about 2,000 rpm, the AMG high-performance engine can already deliver more than 400 Nm of torque, creating ideal conditions for dynamic acceleration and elasticity. But there is something more at work here than the kick delivered by the high engine speeds and the responsiveness to even the slightest movement of the gas pedal. It is the enormous torque of the high-displacement, naturally aspirated engine. Thanks to the enormous reserves of power, casual cruising in the upper gears becomes a sheer pleasure and enhances the new C 55 AMG's special allure.

C-Class, Meet AMG V-8 - - By Henny Hemmes - - The Car Connection
When a Mercedes-Benz gets facelifted or completely redone, you can expect a new AMG version in due time. Now that's the case with the recently updated C-Class.
The C55 AMG, the sportiest C-Class of all time, is available both as saloon and estate. Under the hood is the 5.5-liter V-8 engine with 367 hp at 5750 rpm and 376 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. Compared with its predecessor the C32 AMG, the new C55 AMG has 13 hp and 44 lb-ft more torque. In the C55 AMG the V-8 is teamed to the AMG Speedshift five-speed automatic transmission, which can be shifted via steering wheel mounted controls. The sedan accelerates from 0-60 mph in 5.0 seconds; the somewhat heavier (132 pounds) estate needs 5.4 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 150 mph.
Mercedes-Benz' AMG division also reworked the sport suspension with new springs, shock absorbers and stiffer bushings, while the front track is 0.55 inch wider and the steering is 7 percent more direct. The C55 AMG is equipped with 18-inch wheels with 225/40 tires in the front and 245/35 tires in the rear. AMG also applied its high-performance braking system, including the newly tuned ESP stability system.
On the outside the sporty version can be recognized by its unique front end with a lower hood, different grille, new headlamps and wider fenders. At the rear the chrome-plated twin tailpipes will not escape attention, nor will the AMG styling and a trailing edge on the sedan's decklid.
The interior of the C55 AMG is equipped with new nappa leather covered AMG sport seats with Alcantara inserts at shoulder height, a sporty leather AMG steering wheel and a new AMG instrument cluster with classic round gauges. The market introduction will start in April this year.

"They can choose between the transmission selector lever of the touch control or (in a manner similar to Formula 1 vehicles) two shifting buttons on the ergonomic AMG sport steering wheel."
I don't see any levers from this pic though, except for some hideous buttons

It doesn't seem like that big a difference. How much more does the c55 weigh over the c32?

44lbs of torque? thats a nice improvement imo.
although you cant just up the boost and get crazy gains as w/ the c32. but how many owners do that anyway, <5%

DaimlerChrysler AG has registered the following names:
C 63
and
C 65
Both apply for the USA and Germany.
I wonder if those will be two different engines, or was it because of protecting themselves.

Tell me about it. It must be there for the next generation car which I am sure will be larger.
Can you imagine a V12 3 Series? :P

i doubt the c class gets a v12 anytime soon. its too small and the weight dist. would be horrendous. maybe its for brabus? they love to put those huge shits in cars.

Yep, the A-class is a mini-mini-van. That C looks real hot, MB is going after BMW harder than we think. Notice not only the wide ass range of engines from a measly 2.3 liter to a massive 6.5 liter V12 but also the tons more aggressive & sporty look.

Woowww... that car looks great. Much more agressive than the current car. I like the C-Class... it's just a little cramped for me personally. If they grow this car just a bit I may have to look at it twice.
