McLaren: Ultimate Series News

https://www.topgear.com/car-news/sup...ypercar-coming

McLaren has announced a new hypercar, believed to be codenamed ‘P15’. It’s being touted as an addition to the ‘Ultimate Series’ at the peak of McLaren’s range, which is currently occupied by the sold-out P1, plus the track-only P1 GTR.

Don’t mix this up with the three-seater homage to the McLaren F1 known as the BP23, which Top Gear exclusively drove the seating prototype of earlier this month. The BP23, also a member of the Ultimate Series, is a 106-strong run of hybrid ‘hyper-GTs’, set to be the fastest McLaren road car of all time, but biased to road performance. This new Ultimate Series car, on the other hand, is set up to be ‘McLaren’s most track-concentrated road car yet’.

McLaren says despite the new model’s ‘ultimate track car’ status and a ‘brutal, pure design’, the new machine will indeed be road legal, though McLaren’s usual freakish daily usability has been sacrificed in the name of presumably crackers performance.

It’s been rumoured the car will ditch hybrid power for a purely bi-turbo V8 drivetrain, with power output likely surpassing the P1’s 727bhp on fossil fuels alone. Aerodynamics will also be even more extreme than any Woking product to date. The mind does indeed boggle, readers.

Oh, and yes, of course they’re all already sold out, before you’ve seen the car (besides this faintly Pagani-esque teaser shot), or heard its name. Did you expect anything less?

Another day, another teaser for the ultimate ‘Ultimate Series’ Macca

This isn’t the ultra-limited, three-seater McLaren road car codenamed ‘BP23’. This isn’t even a full McLaren – yet – because it’s a teaser. A teaser for the most hardcore, track-focused road-going McLaren ever built.

So, it’ll sit above the now defunct P1 and P1 GTR, and promises to give “the most intensive driver experience around a circuit”. McLaren tells us daily usability has been cast aside – way, way aside – in favour of point-to-point, um, pointiness. Yikes.

Today, McLaren has told us that it’ll be revealed in full on 10 December, so mark the note down in your diaries. This “extreme, road-legal” McLaren forms the third of 15 new cars set to be delivered by the year 2022, as part of the company’s Track22 plan. More of which you can read here.

What do we know about the car? Only rumours. It looks likely to ditch the hybrid setup for a purely turbo V8 powertrain, though we can accurately surmise that with such an emphasis on being a track fiend, it’ll have unfathomable amounts of aero. Possibly some sort of monster wing apparatus. Scaffolding should do the trick. Perhaps now would be a good time to begin training your internal organs.

Is the world even ready for a McLaren built for the road that requires a track to be enjoyed? Or does the BP23 ‘hyper-GT’ sound more like your cup of tea? Answers below, and begin the countdown…

https://www.motorauthority.com/news/...ly-a-speedster

McLaren will reportedly add a dramatic speedster as the next addition to its range-topping Ultimate Series, to sit alongside past greats like the P1 hypercar, track-focused Senna and upcoming Speedtail.

The speedster will be a two-seater designed with a focus on road use, Autocar reported on Wednesday, citing an anonymous source with knowledge of the car

The source also revealed that the design will take inspiration from earlier open-top sports prototype race cars. Don't be surprised if there are a few cues pointing to McLaren's Can-Am racers of the 1960s, like the M1B. Think something like the recently revealed De Tomaso P72, but without a roof.

Power is said to be coming from McLaren's 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 found in the 720S and Senna, and given the speedster's road-focused nature we'll likely see the engine in this application deliver less than the 789 horsepower it produces in the Senna.

Timing wasn't mentioned but given McLaren's plan to start production of a 106-car run of Speedstails late this year, it might be late 2020 or early 2021 until production of the speedster commences.

Ferrari has also just launched a retro-inspired speedster in the form of the Monza SP, which comes in single- and two-seater versions. Like the Ferrari, McLaren's speedster will almost certainly be limited in production.
