Intriguing. I believe there was a Japan only Miata coupe in the NB generation. Don't recall how many were built.

Looks like an RX-7, MX-6 & Miata had a 3-way.

I just really hope this render isn't 100% accurate
I don't mind the front end too much, but the back Not a fan.

I wonder if it'll still be turbo. Friend told me the latest rumors shot that one down.
An even lighter Miata with turbo torque... that would be a nightmare in autocross.

I'd be ok with no turbo. As long as it's still got that go-kart feel to it & enough power to be fun (ala FRS/BRZ)
Then bring back the Mazdaspeed w/ turbo.

'08 MX5 GT 6spd.
Like 7 or 8 tonight, that youtube link is live.
There are about a million different renders which amount to some random person playing on photoshop. If it was accurate, you'd think they'd at least have gotten the 4 lug wheels correct.
As far as the turbo talk...the Miata has always been great at being the most underpowered fun you can buy. If you look at what they've always done, it's keep it simple which I'm sure they'll do this time around. I'm pretty confident it will not be to much of a departure from what is already out.

Some dude
I have really high expectations for this car... hopefully I'm underwhelmed so I don't get the urge to trade back into a Miata.

Definitely need to see it in person. Those tail lights are the only thing that really bother me though. And this shitty reveal. No specs at all yet...

Front looks better than all the renders. Its a design that could last, unlike the renders that would age out in a few years.
Rear is a F-Type rip off.
Interior...they loved to talk about it...didint show it, in fact they really only showed the profile the entire reveal.
It was a shitty reveal, the website isn't even updated with pics, and duran duran (who I like) was TERRIBLE live. They must have spent NO money on this...or they pissed it away.

As a former Miata owner, I like it. It's a little Honda S2000 mixed with CR-Z in front and I see a lot of influence from the F-Type and BMW Z4 in back. Overall, the proportions work and the lighter weight is promising. Now the big question is, what will be the cost of admission?

so i was right MC Queen it is.
when it comes to Miata, it was never a great looker. What matters is how it drives. Hopefully they added some more juice to the engine and kept the handling characteristics.

I like it. Looks less like a rolling kidney-bean and more like a proper roadster.

Press release...
HIROSHIMA, Japan-Mazda Motor Corporation today celebrated the unveiling of the fourth generation Mazda MX-5 (known as Roadster in Japan) together with fans at events held simultaneously in Japan, USA and Spain. The all-new MX-5, which adopts both SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and Mazda's KODO-Soul of Motion design language, will be rolled out to global markets starting in 2015.
The MX-5 is an iconic model representing Mazda's vehicle-engineering philosophy-the pursuit of driving pleasure. "Innovate in order to preserve" was the motto for the fourth generation, as the development team searched for innovations that go beyond simple evolution. Environmental and safety demands are much more stringent than they were when the first generation MX-5 was introduced 25 years ago, but the fourth generation stays true to the model's original aim of offering the pure driving fun that only a lightweight sports car can. It achieves this through the adoption of SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and refinement of its appeal to the senses and sensations through which people enjoy cars.
The design of the all-new MX-5 reveals another layer to Mazda's KODO design language. The exquisite proportions make the driver and passenger stand out, and both the interior and exterior evoke the exhilaration of open-top driving. It is the most compact of any generation MX-5 so far and is more than 100 kilograms lighter than the model it replaces, promising a dramatic leap in Jinba-ittai driving fun.
As of July 2014, total production volume of the Mazda MX-5 exceeded 940,000 units and it continues to hold the Guinness World Record for the best-selling two-seater sports car. This highly-celebrated model has received over 200 awards from around the globe including Japan Car of the Year 2005-2006.
Moving forward, Mazda will continue to develop products which offer all customers driving pleasure and outstanding environmental and safety performance.

I will say they did good job making it more "masculine" in design.
