I like the Mazda6 line and like Mazda's in general. They're pretty sporty and well put together and the interior quality is good as well.

Think they should've just put the new engine in the fwd car and left the awd out altogether, reduced the price to reflect that and put it against the altima ser, tsx whatever in that range...

At least Mazda makes an effort to sell sporty vehicles. Where is Honda/Acura's turbocharged sports sedan with AWD?

I wish I could put Honda's insides into a Mazda...

We spoke to Mazda's head of MazdaSpeed for North America or whatever the hell he was at the Detroit Auto Show as he was interested in our opinion's on the car. When we mentioned the rims he said it was completely out of his hands. He had tried for other rims but was overruled by the Japanese.

While I somewhat agree a cars looks go a long way to determining wheather or not you buy it, at least it does for me and I'm sure the majority of people.

5.5 seconds is very impressive especially considering the AJAC is typically very conservative in their driving.

Acceleration is awesome. As tested by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) at the recent Car of the Year "Testfest", the Mazdaspeed6 had a 0 to 100 km/h time of just 5.5 seconds – quicker than an Audi A4 3.2, BMW 330i, and Lexus IS350 - and 0.1 seconds faster than the smaller, lighter Subaru WRX.
From 80 to 120 km/h, the Mazdaspeed6 took just 4.3 seconds, quicker than all of its rivals.

Its one hell of a value. I'm just not liking the styling, interior and the fact its a Mazda.

Wow this one might have to go back into the running after that review. As much as I don't like the front biased AWD if the car is a blast to drive that goes a long way.

The impala ss has a 5.3l v8 with 323lbft and fwd... Sure people whine about torque steer like they don't know they are getting into a fwd, so what? Is it the end of the world, not imo. Does that make a car not fun to drive, not imo. I'd rather deal with torque steer than a slow car or even an overweight car.
It would seem that the car was underestimated though and has plenty of power to move, but the added weight seems to have come up in the canadian driver review, taking away that light handling fun to drive character the base 6 has.

Lets see here,
"the Mazdaspeed6 had a 0 to 100 km/h time of just 5.5 seconds – quicker than an Audi A4 3.2, BMW 330i, and Lexus IS350"
"The brakes are phenomenal. In independent AJAC braking tests from 100 km/h to 0 km/h, the Mazdaspeed6 stopped in 35.2 metres, 2 metres shorter than a 2006 Corvette Z06!"
"Abetting the smooth, powerful engine is a slick, perfectly-weighted six-speed shifter with nicely-defined gates and an action almost as good as the Miata's. Combine the superb drivetrain with all-wheel traction, and you have a sport sedan that can run with much faster cars - Audi S4s come to mind - in any weather."
we have a winnar!

I dont think that 5.5 for the 100 k/h run is surprising in this case guys. Mostly because of AWD. In order to see if this engine is underrated we need to look at the trap speed of a 1/4 mile run.
I mean the Evo and STI get 4.7s or lower (for the 98.5 k/h run) with 300 or less horses.

I'm the Firestarter
I wonder if they substituted the shiny plastic on the dash with something a little bit more upscale. That's the major thing wrong with the interior IMO. I liked the exterior styling better on the concept, but you can't deny the value of this car.

i think the center console is awful (look at those air vents, pontiac anyone?), and the gagues need some work, but the seats and shifter look nice.
also the styling of the 6 has waned on me over the years, and those rims are iffy
if those preformance numbers are correct, then its still an unbeatable value and its obvious where the attention went

The only option is a $2,800 package that includes leather seats – single or two-tone leather – heated front seats, power moonroof, and a keyless entry and ignition system. The latter enables the driver to keep the rectangular flat key in their pocket or purse, and just press a button on the door handle to lock and unlock it. In the driver's seat, the driver doesn't need to put a key in the ignition – just turn a knob to start and stop the engine.
