Some of their long term cars don't always get faster, i.e. they tested a Honda Element and it actually ran a slower time on the same track when it had 40K miles.

Mazda Announces Pricing on 2006 MAZDASPEED6, Introduces MAZDA3 and RX-8 Special Edition Models

summer 2005, it will be priced from $27,995 (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price). Equipped with a 270-horsepower turbocharged direct-injection gasoline engine, MAZDASPEED6 is the most powerful and best-handling sedan ever sold by Mazda.
MAZDASPEED6 demonstrates the trademark balance of all MAZDASPEED vehicles -- the highest performance vehicles to wear the Mazda badge. To accommodate the power of the turbocharged engine, Mazda developed a new Active Torque-Split All-Wheel Drive system. When electronic sensors detect a lack of grip, up to 50 percent of the power can be directed to the rear wheels. In addition, the MAZDASPEED6 comes equipped with a completely new six-speed manual transmission, perfectly fitting the car's character.

Optional on MAZDASPEED6 is a Grand Touring package, priced at $29,925, incorporating leather seating surfaces, eight-way power driver's seat, heated front seats and mirrors, and keyless entry and start. Because of MAZDASPEED6's high level of standard equipment, stand-alone factory options are limited to pearl paint ($200), power tilt-and-slide moonroof ($700) and DVD-based navigation system ($2,000).

In addition to news on MAZDASPEED6 pricing, Mazda also showed for the first time the all-new MAZDA3 SP23 Special Edition and the rotary-powered RX-8 "SHINKA" Special Edition.

The MAZDA3 SP23 Special Edition stands apart from the compact segment with the addition of a leather interior, premium sound system, high-gloss finish 17-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing front windshield wipers and automatic on/off headlights. Offered only in Carbon Gray Mica and available on both the 4-Door sedan and 5-Door, the MAZDA3 SP23 Special Edition exhibits the perfect balance of performance-oriented luxury.

The RX-8 "SHINKA" Special Edition takes its name from the Japanese word meaning "evolution" or "transformation" and mixes RX-8's sports car flavor with a touch of luxury. Available with either a six-speed manual or four-speed Sport A/T automatic transmission, the RX-8 "SHINKA" Special Edition features an upgraded and uniquely tuned suspension with uprated shock absorbers and urethane-filled cross-member supports, increasing performance and ride comfort. In addition to "SHINKA's" unique Parchment-colored leather interior, Mazda added leather to the handbrake lever, upgraded trim on the doors and center console, and revised the finish on the 18-inch alloy wheels and the head- and tail-light bezels. To ensure "SHINKA" stays special, only 2,150 cars will be produced.

Also on display at the 2005 Greater Los Angeles Auto Show are the finalists in the Mazda "Zoom-Zoom To Win" photography contest. Held in conjunction with Conde Nast magazines, Mazda invited the general public to submit photographs in digital and film format that best describe what Zoom-Zoom means to them. From the more than 3,000 pictures submitted, 50 finalists have been chosen, and the ultimate winner will be announced at the New York International Auto Show in March.

Mazda North American Operations is responsible for the sales and marketing, customer parts and service support of Mazda vehicles in the United States. Headquartered in Irvine, Calif., MNAO has more than 700 dealerships nationwide.

I was expecting a few more dozen horses from this car. 300HP sounds like the minimum for the character of this car.

But from the reviews I have seen it seems more of a legacy gt type of car vs an all out road rally car so this seems like plenty of power to me?

Of course i would not kick 300 horses out of my bed either

Please. Everything Mazda has currently is more exciting than those uber conservative Hondas and trying-too-hard nissans.

The 3 is better-equpped and looks and drives nicer than the Civic or Sentra ever could hope to.
The 6 might lose the HP wars to the Accord and Altima, but it's no slouch AND it handles and brakes better than either of them. People, like you, say it's "too small" but run down the specs and see that it's right in line with those two in the rear and trunk. And the 6 hatch and wagon is nicer than either.....oh, wait....neither Honda or Nissan offers one.
The RX8 is another one that loses the HP wars, but it keeps creaming the Z and G coupe in every comparison test because it's a better car overall. Outbrakes and handles just as well as the rough-riding, overly stiff Z and the soulless G coupe, while being much more rewarding to drive because it wasn't just thrown together.

Bottom line is Mazda produces fun to drive niche cars that sell in small numbers compared to the others, but that doesn't mean they aren't competitive. As someone who appreciates fun to drive cars, I'd have to say there's not one Honda or nissan I'd take over a competing Mazda, because they're all boring in comparison.

Mazda: Mazda6 news **2014 Revealed (page 10)**

These are the first official pictures of the revised 2005 Mazda6.

The Mazda6 got a sportier chassis, some minor technical changes (higher torque). The 2.0 Diesel got more power (up from 136 PS to 143 PS), and two new gear boxes found their way in the Mazda6.

The 6 got revised front and rear, front and rear lights in each case surrounded by darker chrome.
Front and rear bumpers are slightly changed.
In the interior it got a more darkened cladding of the center-console ('Dark Titan'), the instruments got new surroundings and the seats new fabrics.

Also Mazda added an optional 'keyless-go-and-start'-system.

The above changes apply to the Euro Spec Mazda 6. Let's see if we get those clear rear lights which we did not during the past two years, unlike Europe.

Have they really made the front grill smaller than before or is it my perception?? Anyways only thing i am happy about the facelift (or a facedown) is that it is not anymore similar to the TSX front

Hate to break it to you but those try to hard Nissans are actually (gulp) selling pretty well and Honda has a solid niche.

Honda did trip up on the Civic but looks to be making amends with the 8G. The Sentra is effectively in it's 6th model year (B15 chassis) so the 3 should be better by now. But I have no doubt Carlos will come up with something good in this category.

...good to know when I decide to commit .5% of my car's useage for the AutoX.

:wtf: People like me? Too small? I actually test drive these cars frequently, so I'm talking from experience NOT a bunch of numbers from Edmunds. But whatev.... As far as a mid size hatch/wagon that's just what the market is screaming for, 'cause we all know those Saab 9-5s and Chevy Maxxs are selling like hotcakes.

I've driven BOTH the G35C and RX8 and I'd take the G over the RX8 ANYDAY. The car's a luxury-sports coupe that puts out some great performance. Sorry, that's not even a close one, if I'm stuck in helix traffic funneling into the Lincoln Tunnel, I want the G. But, if the .5% of the time I would run an AutoX winds up being more important than the 99.5% of normal driving I do then I'll consider the RX8. And for similar money, I'd rather have the 7G AV6 6MT and upgrade the wheel package.

...yeah, why have an Odyssey EX Touring or Quest 3.5SE when you can have the MPV. ...and let me know when Mazda makes something that can hang with the S2k 'cause that Mazdaspeed Miata is flatout .

Of course they are. Americans are power hungry; advertise a bunch of freak-show designs draped over cheap, ugly interiors as 245, 250, 255, 260, 265, 270, 280 and so on HP and most'll overlook the freakshow part.

Hopefully it'll be in a new one, cause I'd hate to see you embarass yourself out there in that thing from your av.

Sounds like something the designers of the Pontiac Aztec probably said.

...didnt know the RX8 was meant to compete with a roadster (S2000) and a luxury coupe (G35 Coupe). Maybe we can mount some Goodyear Wranglers it and see how it competes with a Jeep Liberty.

Anywhoooo, how did the RX8 fare in Road & Track's Best All Around Sports Car test? Oh wait!! It wasnt included. I guess R/T dont realize what they missed out on.

At a minimum, come back to me when the RX8 can run upper 13s stock (like the 240hp S2000).

Let me get back on track here and say that I'm not here to bash Mazda. Rather, Mazda is making products now that have broader appeal than what they offered back in...say...2000 where we the consumers were blessed with the Protege, 626, Miata and Millenia (decent but 6 y/o at the time).

What they offer now is so much nicer and having a Mazdaspeed version of several models will go a long way towards establishing a reputation for making exciting cars. But to state that their cars were already exciting and competitive with Hondas and Nissans epitomizes what it means to be dillusional. (Claiming that mainstream consumers do 'not understand their own needs' borders on narcissistic.)

The MS6 looks pretty good by most accounts although that weight needs to be kept in check. (Heck! The Legacy GT Wagon only weighs about 3500lbs.) And I'm very eager to test one out.

How funny. That's usually what nissan owners call Honda/Toyota buyers.

I know. I'd yawn too at the thought of driving a nissan.

At a minimum, the HONDA Ody has the nissan beat in just about EVERY category.
...didnt know the RX8 was meant to compete with a roadster (S2000) and a luxury coupe (G35 Coupe).
It wasn't, and yet mags like M/T, C&D, and R&T compare them just the same.

Anywhoooo, how did the RX8 fare in Road & Track's Best All Around Sports Car test? Oh wait!! It wasnt included.
Let's talk about what WAS included: Which car came in next to last place? Which handled the worst? Which has "300 hp" but got outrun by several LESS powerful cars? Here's a hint; it looks on the outside and on the inside and wears a nissan badge.

At a minimum, come back to me when the RX8 can run upper 13s stock (like the 240hp S2000).
That'll probably be around the same time the "300 hp" Z can outrun the 225 hp Z4 or the same 240 hp S2000.

On average 350Z's are faster then S2K's. Oh yea and check the 5-60MPH acceleration on both those cars.

And you claiming that they aren't competitive when the only advantage Honda and nissan holds over them is engine output isn't?
Now I remember why I hate nissan owners. Talk about 'dillusional'.
