Think I would rather have an mps 6 than an sti or evo. Will most likely be a nice allround car - materials, looks, power, handling. http://www.webmasterp.com/mazda/

My guess is that the MPS6 will work out to a more practical version of the STi and Evo. Also, if it ended up looking like:

I WOULD ROCK THE HELL OUT OF IT. Mazda is well on its way back up to the top.

Yup. Give the 3 that drivetrain and those upgrades and it'll run up and down the competition.

If Mazda brings that car here and it does well, I'm going to be extremely bitter with Ford for not bringing the new Mondeo ST220 here. There's no reason I shouldn't sell well here.

0-60 in 6.5 is the figure I've seen.

I think that's if they brought that interior over for one of their cars it would be the best domestic interior one the market.

This car is called the Jaguar X-Type 3.0 here in the USA (only half kidding).

Mazda sexes up the 6 - - Source: Autocar Magazine

Mazda will unveil this high-performance, near-150mph version of the 6 saloon at September’s Paris Motor Show. Scooped with only light disguise while hot weather testing in the US, the 276bhp Mazda 6 MPS is expected to hit UK dealers in mid-2005.

Clearly visible in our photographs are the aggressive new front bumper, grille and bonnet bulge that distinguish the hot 6 from standard versions.

Mazda revealed a design study for the MPS at the Paris show in 2002 and the production
version is very close to that restrained look (right). It was created in Germany under British design chief Peter Birtwhistle.

The cooling ducts in the lower bumper are identical, although the grille has changed slightly to incorporate a horizontal central bar. At the rear are sporty twin exhausts neatly routed under the bumper, new tail-lights with smoked black tints and a subtle lip spoiler for the boot. The wheels remain an impressive 18in, although the wheelarches appear to have been gently toned down compared with the concept’s.

At the heart of the 6 MPS road car is the concept’s muscular turbocharged powertrain, six-speed manual gearbox and four-wheel drive. Peak power from the twin-turbocharged and intercooled 2.3-litre four-cylinder is tipped to match the concept’s 276bhp. Thanks to the turbocharger, it should develop a useful amount of torque for effortless performance. Expect a peak of around 265lb ft, developed at an accessible 3500rpm – that’s 5lb ft more than a BMW M3 but delivered 1400rpm lower down the rev range.

If Autocar’s sources are correct, the twin turbos deploy sequentially, the smaller boosting at low revs, the bigger across the rest of the range. This design keeps turbo lag to a minimum by using two fast-spinning turbos. Because both are smaller than one big blower, they have little inertia and therefore respond more quickly to throttle inputs.

Four-wheel drive should make the MPS a highly effective cross-country drive, particularly since the concept’s electronically controlled centre diff and limited-slip rear differential are expected to make production.

The MPS will cost around £24,000, undercutting opposition like the less powerful 250bhp Alfa Romeo 156 GTA.

I just got a Mazda 6 brochure yesterday (in the mail) and I just have to say: Mazda has to do something with that lineup. Nothing they currently have in their whole lineup even remotely competes with what's being offered by Honda or Nissan.

Ford REALLY put the chastity belt on that brand. Let's just hope the Mazda brand can be resurrected. Peace.

I'll take the Mazda3 over the civic and the sentra any day. 170horses and options galore including nav. The Mazda6 looks better than the accord and altima hands down. The mazda speed version of the RX8 will bump up the horse power and make it perform a whole lot better. The miata has no competition at its price range and its styling is still classic (although a might bit femine). The Mazda warranty is still better than honda's (don't know about nissan). In short, I don't agree with you mang!

The 6 is too small though. I guess that's better for some since it gives it a much sportier nature. Depends on what you're looking for, but the aveage family buying a four door sedan like the Accord or Altima is looking for space.

Mazda 6 MPS

New 2.3 direct-injection turbo with 260 hp, mated to a six speed manual and all-wheel drive. Expect it in North America next year under the MazdaSpeed moniker. Should be quite the machine. I still say the 6 looks better in pictures than in preson though.

Hmmmm, so where's that second TSX model Justin?

Interesting that they are also going with a direct-injection FI engine, a.la Audi.
I'd like to see the torque numbers on that engine. 260HP is fine and all, but I'm wondering if the hidden power will be with the torque. Depending on how it's set up, I would imagine it would be between 200 and 240 ft-lbs.

All that power and still no place to use it.

I never understood the obsession with HP. Any car made today is quite capable of getting you a speeding ticket. The more power you have, the bigger the ticket.

The tuners will be all over this car. Factory turbo + awd has all sorts of potential.

looks like a decent comprimise between an Evo and a regular sedan, it acutally has a nice interior unlike the civic-like Mitsu. Now what's the price going to be?

Does it share a tranny with other Mazda models? The reason I ask is that our tranny in the P5 sucks (3rd pops out at random times) and lots of other people have had problems w/ blown trannys. If that's the case and you plan on doing high-performance driving/racing, I'd be inclined to stay away.
