Talk about a company listening to criticism and doing something about it. Everything that was "wrong" with the first gen has been fixed; it went from least powerful V6 in class to (currently) most powerful (more HP and torque than camcordimabu), and it has a bigger back seat than all except the camry.

It wont make a dent in their sales, but surely it'll sell better than the first generation did.

Just think how much it would have been if it didn't grow that much. Shave another 200lbs off and it would zoom-zoom even better. I see no reason this can't reach its sales goal - Mazda dealers will have lots of SUV/truck owners coming in for a trade.

Nope, Americans want their big cars. For some people even the Accord is too small...

Mazda needs to get counseling for their snowflake fetish.

Busy wheels != better design.

Motherfuckers and their packages ... In order to get the high-end audio you HAVE to get the moonroof.

Wow, the front looks so bland on the silver 6.... and are those fake inlets on the sides where the fogs should go?

The red one looked so much better with the chrome/polished accents on the lower grill, and it seemed to have real inlets.

It doesn't make sense that on the "sport" model you don't get the alloys. And as I mentioned above about the start button - you need to get at least the touring model to get the start button. Other wise you get a "regular" key - that doesn't make sense - it probably costs more overall to have two different ways to start the car.

I can think of a reason.. fuel economy.. 17/25 for the V6!! that is TERRIBLE!!! especially in this age of even high performance cars getting decent economy. That's the same numbers as a Supra TT!

clearly a base model. and "fake inlets where fogs should go" has been around for decades.. where have you been? :P

yep trim line difference

But, I have to say, kudos to Mazda for the design on this, I thought the age of good-looking sedans (in this segment) was gone..

Too bad the Accord can't match the Mazda's athleticism. Honda needs a 6-spd stat and get rid of that VCM

owners report real world mpg is higher than its EPA figures.

mazda doesnt BS you like honda does. there are many accord owners very disappointed with their real world mpg. not to mention the VCM failures.

That view and the side profile are the best views of the car. I'm not a fan of the front end. Too bad.

Well I have many friends with Mazda3 2.3L getting 13L/100km or 18mpg combined.....EPA says 23mpg combined....another friend of mine has a 2004 RX8 AT and he has been getting 13-14mpg consistently (for more than 3 years), and EPA says it should be getting 18mpg combined. No, they don't go WOT at all. For comparison, my TL-S with almost 100000 miles gets 21mpg consistently for 1 year for 95%+ city driving (rated 19/29mpg), and I go WOT at least once a day.

Perhaps the new V6 is better?

Relative to the gas guzzling SUV some folks are trading in that's much better. And most of them will opt for the 4 cyl which is even better. It's a little early to make judgments about real world fuel economy. The car rag test certainly shows the V6 ahead of the pack (Accord and Altima) in terms of fuel mileage.

I routinely averaged 33-34mpg on the highway in my Mazda3 5MT and 25mpg in my Mazdaspeed3 ... Both are about the high end of what the EPA says the cars should get.

The ratings from the EPA are pretty suspect for most cars.

saw one on the road yesterday for the first time.

the car is noticeable bigger and longer than the 1st gen.

i like it a lot. i actually like the front more than the rear.

I saw a couple last weekend in a grocery store parking lot and I like what I see. The car is definitely longer and wider than the previous gen, but it looks real sharp. I will say, though, that I like the back much better than the front. The black one I saw looked awesome.
