Going on my experience in the Mazdaspeed3 they look much better in person. Not that it means anything for the new 6 but pictures are deceiving.

They do take some getting used to..but red gages are expected in Mazdaspeed Models.

The Speed 6 wasn't a great seller. They may have sold them all but huge discounts were available and apparently needed to move them.

With that said, that makes me wonder if a AWD Acura TSX with the RDX's engine would sell or not. It sounds good, but does it really work? Mazdaspeed6 tells us it's not a good idea, even though its starting price is about the same as the TSX. Then one might argue that Acura is not Mazda, but then again, many people have said that the Acura brand is worthless.

Part of the reason was that the clutch in that car was just terrible. As a daily driver, it would have been unbearable. As a weekend track star, the extra weight of the car would have reduced its effectiveness. While it was a great car in its own right, I think it suffered the most from a lack of automatic transmission in the NA market and a poor clutch setup for daily use.

2009 Mazda 6 revealed (US version)...

Info pertaining to the 2009 U.S. version...

It may share the name and its recognition, but the US specification Mazda 6 differs in many ways from its non-US counterpart making it virtually a new car. The US Mazda6 is larger inside and out, comes with more powerful engines and has its own unique styling points.

Mazda has been building US specific version of the mid-size sedan ever sine the 2002 Mazda6 at their AutoAlliance International plant, a joint venture with Ford, in Flat Rock, Mich. "This is the most important new vehicle Mazda has launched in a decade," said Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO Mazda North America.

Power comes from the 2.5 liter MZR four-cylinder engine or a 3.7 liter V6 with either a six-speed manual transmission, five-speed automatic with manual-shift mode for the 4-cylinder or six-speed automatic with manual-shift more for the V6.

The US will only be able to buy the new Mazda6 as a sedan, the hatchback and estate are reserved for the rest of the world, and have a choice of three trim level: Sport, Touring and Grand Touring. The US Mazda6 is expected to go on sale late this summer.

I like

Interesting placement of the engine start button.... seems best, close to the shifter and all. The front of the car is gonna take some getting used to with that huge bare-looking grill, but I really like the rear.

What was with the clutch in the Speed 6 anyway? I've always heard that it was weird but never got to drive one, so what was it? My friend has one, but I never asked. He says you get used to it.

Very nice. Does anyone else think it looks like an American car and not a Japanese car? I find a lot of the design cues are very Ford-ish. I wonder if the parent company is influencing them. Especially in the interiors.

Doesn't it look like on the 6MT model there's a regular key w/ fob in the steering column and no start button (or obscured by shifter).

looks nice, but the side profile looks a bit volvo to me and the front of the US version doesn't look as aggressive as the Japanese version.

Sad to say, but if you put a blue oval on the front, I don't think loyal Fordies buy it.

I think you're one of the few. Nearly every review I have read and every drive I took in one had a clutch that was like a light switch -- either on or off, no room in the middle.

Yea I took one out twice, the speed6 was my next runner up to the Acura TL, the clutch was going to take some serious getting used to. That said, I have used some pretty horrific clutch systems and once you get used to it, it becomes automatic.

As for the look of the new one, I like the old one better, I still have second thoughts about not getting one.

Yeah, but it seems like that cubby area in front of the shifter is different for the auto and manual.... the auto has what looks like a flip-up cubby, while the manual has just a mini-din looking slot.

It seems like the console pics of the AT car is a high end model with NAV, heated seats and wood. The whole cubby in front of the shifter is different. But having one with and one without the start button on the same car would be pretty rare, no? The only reason to not have the start button would be cost, right? Or is there something about the 6MT that they rather have a traditional key?

mazda offered to extend out our lease on the 2005 6i we have until the new one hits.

I think we are going to do it. If it gets here and we dont like it, we can always go to plan a...3 Hatch.
