Shame about the diesel delay. They have to work out some kinks though.

http://news.drive.com.au/drive/motor...821-24k6w.html

Apparently in lieu of a fix in the works, they require the oil to be checked every 600 miles, and changed every 1,200 miles or else the warranty will be voided

Mazda has implemented some neat technologies into their SKYACTIV engines, but the diesel has issues. Still would love a gas engined 6.

Post 2013 Mazda Club Sport 6 Concept

Press release...

Motorsports and Mazda are so synonymous one seemingly cannot live without the other, less yin-and-yang and more peas-and-carrots. And while the brand may never disconnect from its Zoom-Zoom roots (nor want to), competitive aggression on the race track need not translate into gritty, abrasive design. There can be finesse in fire, beauty in brawn. This was the inspiration behind the latest concepts from Mazda North American Operations' (MNAO) Irvine, Calif.-based design team. The four vehicles made their official debuts today at the annual Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show. All-new 2014 Mazda3 and Mazda6 vehicles were utilized to showcase distinctively fresh designs paying homage to the brand's racing heritage and awakened design direction.

"It's no secret Mazda is going through a design evolution," said Derek Jenkins, design director, MNAO. "With bolder lines and stronger character features stemming from the 'KODO – Soul of Motion' design language, Mazda's inherent driving dynamics are becoming more and more visually clear. Instead of only being a behind-the-wheel experience, the Zoom-Zoom genetic code is further being embraced, not buried, through increasingly expressive vehicle design."

Club Sport Concepts

Both a Mazda3 and Mazda6 were given "Club Sport" treatments, a motorsports-inspired motif of neutral grays, blacks and reds represented in not-so-subtle angular lines reminiscent of a car speeding past your line of sight. Featuring a Mazda Design-exclusive Composite Grey finish and Brilliant Black rooftop, the Club Sport 6 Concept is outfitted with a 14.0:1 low-compression SKYACTIV-D 2.2-liter clean diesel engine. Although this vehicle features a European-specification engine with an output of 129 kW at 4,500 rpm and 420 nM of torque at 2,000 rpm, the North American clean diesel will be available in late spring of next year. The SKYACTIV-D 2.2L engine was most recently seen on U.S. shores during the final season of the GRAND-AM Rolex GX Series, where the rookie Mazda6 took the checkered flag nine straight times and finished the year with manufacturers and rookie-of-the-year driver's championship honors.

The exterior surface is painted with custom Club Sport graphics, featuring varying line frequency and width to create a sense of movement. A Mazda Design custom accessory aero kit was installed, which features front, rear and side diffusers as well as a rear spoiler – all in a contrasting Brilliant Black gloss. The Club Sport 6 sits on Rays 57 Motorsport G07FXX 20-inch Black and Machining-colored 10-spoke wheels wrapped in sticky Yokohama S.drive® 245/35R20 tires. Suspension is courtesy of an H&R spring kit while custom Brembo two-piece, six-piston 380x32 drilled brake rotors and a Racing Beat exhaust add the final sporty touches.

Post 2013 Mazda Ceramic 6 Concept

Press release...

Continuing on the theme of uncompromised performance draped with unconventional yet beautiful design enters the Ceramic 6 Concept. While similar to the Vector 3 in that its design pattern is identical on either side, this also is where the likeness ends. And where the Club Sport concept vehicles emphasized their racing heritage, the Ceramic 6 focuses on racing patterns.
The Ceramic 6's exterior finish is an eponymous Ceramic White littered with Taupe Silver accent stripes. Such as the linear frequency patterns found on the likes of couture dresses and flowing fabrics, Ceramic 6's garb radiates a presence of serenity and pureness. Using a base metallic followed by a satin quality clear paint, the vehicle's matte white finish was achieved.

Matching its accent lines Ceramic 6 rides on Rays Volk Racing Original G25 10-spoke, 20-inch wheels finished in Taupe Silver. Performance accessories include an H&R spring kit, a Racing Beat custom dual-exhaust and custom Brembo two-piece, six-piston 380x32 drilled rotors.

The interior resembles something out of a Milan fashion studio with premium soft leathers, intricate stitching and overlapping weave patterns. Easily an outfit that can be presented on the runway, the Ceramic 6 further distances itself from the Club Sport 6. Where the Club Sport represented motorsports and historical drives, the Ceramic 6 is reminiscent of Rodeo Drive. Yet as dissimilar in design as the two mid-size sedans are, no one can deny that they remain genetic twins – built to perform and handle roads with prowess, regardless the exterior's cloak.

Featuring supple full-grain leather all around, the White presents a canvas clean in appearance that boldly complements the dark interior features such as the premium Black leather of the steering wheel, arm rests, emergency brake and center console. Accented metallic details provide a warm transition between the tones. Wrapped in Black leather, the steering wheel displays Light White Momo-style stitching and finished with a matching leather strip at the high-noon position.

Comprising the front and rear seat inserts are interwoven light and dark White leather while hand-sewn Burgundy stitching further highlights the dynamic contrasting design. Light White leather inserts featuring the same hand-sewn Burgundy stitching pattern adorn the doors and is featured along the instrument panel decor in the same fashion.

Wow, the Ceramic 6 looks fantastic (without the graphics).

Give the Navigation a bigger screen and I wouldn't have anything to complain about.

Mazda6 gets an update.

Press Release

2016 Mazda6: A major refresh to Mazda's flagship model
The refreshed Mazda6 makes its world debut at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Debuting in 2012 as the flagship model in Mazda's new-generation product lineup, Mazda6 earned high acclaim in markets around the world thanks to the alluring vitality of the KODO-Soul of Motion design language and SKYACTIV Technology's balance of driving pleasure, environmental performance and safety. This round's update aims to fully respond to customer expectations and Mazda went to extraordinary lengths to bring new levels of depth and maturity to every aspect of the model. In addition to an innovative interior design, the updated refreshed Mazda6 offers the customer greater sophistication and value with enhanced exterior design, functionality, ride comfort, quietness, and safety.

The 2016 Mazda6 features the following enhancements. Bold changes to the shape of the instrument panel and floor console give the interior a fresh new look. It fuses a driver-oriented cockpit design, based on Mazda's unique Heads-up Cockpit concept, with a roomy front seat passenger environment. In addition, thorough attention was paid to minimizing gaps between parts and achieving an overall unified appearance, significantly enhancing the feeling of quality as befits the flagship model in the Mazda product lineup. Exterior features include a new front grille and signature wing design. These combine with new LED headlamps to create a bold and elegant expression that leaves a distinct impression of the evolution of the brand. Detailed refinements to dynamic performance include improved sound insulation throughout the body and improved front and rear seat performance. These enhancements yield a quieter and more comfortable riding experience, as befits the flagship model of Mazda's range of new-generation products.

Exterior Design

Further refined KODO design creates a bolder new exterior
Mazda6 gave form to the TAKERI concept car and is a pure expression of Mazda's KODO design language. The design fused intellect, elegance and an emotional, dynamic shape to realize a strong presence as the flagship model. It earned high acclaim as a result, including being named a Top 3 Finalist for the 2013 World Car Design of the Year award.

For this round's update, particular effort was dedicated to further polishing Mazda6's award-winning design and to creating a deeper, stronger design expression. This includes the added texture and enhanced three-dimensionality of the front grille and signature wing; the strong sense of vitality of the new headlamps that look like eyes gazing straight ahead; and the new design expression created by the signature wing illumination. While the sophisticated air born of KODO design remains, the refreshed Mazda6 marks an evolution to a bolder and more elegant expression that lends it stronger presence as the flagship model and clearly conveys the further evolution of the brand.

• The fins on the front grille, which feature a stronger look of horizontal flow, combine with the dynamic shape and three-dimensionality of the signature wing to create a bolder front face with an elegant look.
• The LED lighting signature of the rear combination lamps gives the rear view a sharp, taut look.
• The new compact shark fin antenna accents the vehicle's flowing form and stylish looks.
• The 19-inch aluminum wheel with high-gloss paint adopts a darker color that emphasizes the brightness and greater depth of its metallic look.
• The lineup of nine body colors includes the newly developed Sonic Silver Metallic and Titanium Flash Mica, which was first introduced on Mazda3.

Interior Design & Functions

Refined textures and advanced functions highlight the sophisticated interior
The Mazda6 interior already featured sophisticated design and coordination, along with finely crafted forms. Careful selection of each material, including the finest quality leather covering the steering wheel and Mazda's first use of off-white leather, embodied the sense of taste and fine texture that befitted the flagship model.

For this round's update, every detail related to texture and quality was polished to perfection, further lifting the level of quality in the interior. The design team pursued beauty born of the fine mating and unification of carefully produced parts. To meet this goal, they boldly evolved the shapes of the instrument panel and floor console, while paying careful attention to the shapes, expressions and use of colors for the parts and ornamentation laid out in these areas. It also includes the adoption of Mazda Connect, Mazda's next-generation car connectivity system and an Electrical Parking Brake (EPB). Mazda enhanced both convenience and comfort, while also heightening a sense of high quality as befits the flagship model.

• Bold changes to the shape of the instrument panel and floor console give the interior a fresh new look.
• Thorough attention paid to minimizing gaps between parts and achieving an overall unified appearance significantly enhances the feeling of quality as befits the flagship model in the Mazda product lineup.
• The interior fuses a driver-oriented cockpit design based on the Heads-up Cockpit and an instrument panel that extends horizontally to create a passenger environment with a sense of breadth and openness.
• The refreshed Mazda6 continues to offer a selection of black or white leather, or black or sand beige fabric interior materials. However, the leather interior adopts new color coordination.
• Mazda's first implementation of an Electrical Parking Brake (EPB).
• A freestanding seven-inch center display is mounted on the top of the low dashboard.
• The Active Driving Display provides vehicle speed and other important driving information, such as that from the advanced safety systems, in real time.
• The Mazda Connect car connectivity system paired with a smartphone makes it easier to take advantage of functions including internet connectivity and access to social networking services.

Driving Dynamics

Higher quality dynamic performance delivers pure driving pleasure
The smooth, linear response and feeling of oneness between car and driver realized by SKYACTIV Technology delivers a light and pleasant driving experience. For this round's update, the development team devoted particular effort to adding greater depth to the enjoyment of the driving experience by further enhancing the level of all-round comfort, including ride comfort and quietness. Toward this purpose, Mazda further evolved NVH performance and seat performance, while also adopting Drive Selection for the SKYACTIV-DRIVE automatic transmission.

The 2016 Mazda6 continues to offer a 2.5-liter SKYACTIV-G direct-injection gasoline engine. Also carried over are the six-speed automatic SKYACTIV-DRIVE and six-speed manual SKYACTIV-MT transmissions. Combined with Mazda's i-stop idling stop system and i-ELOOP brake energy regeneration system, the powertrains deliver the right balance of linear, powerful acceleration, and excellent fuel economy and environmental performance.

• Excellent NVH performance befits the even higher-quality interior environment. The amount of noise transmitted into the cabin is reduced by approximately 10 percent when driving on rough roads and by approximately 25 percent on highways.
• The evolved front and rear seat structure provides a feeling of comfortable snugness and a good fit, excellent holding characteristics, as well as ride comfort befitting Mazda's flagship model.
• The Mazda6 powered by a gasoline engine and paired with SKYACTIV-DRIVE adopts Drive Selection, which allows drivers to switch drive modes for a more responsive driving experience.

Safety

i-ACTIVSENSE safety features support driving pleasure with peace of mind
As befits a flagship model, the world-class safety performance of Mazda6 has earned high acclaim. Its adoption of Mazda's i-ACTIVSENSE*1 advanced safety technologies based on Mazda Proactive Safety*2 plays an important role in achieving this level of safety performance. The 2016 Mazda6 offers a wide variety of advanced safety technologies and further strengthens safety performance. This delivers greater driving pleasure and peace of mind, while adding further polish to the value offered by Mazda's flagship model.

*1 i-ACTIVSENSE is an umbrella term covering a series of advanced safety technologies that employ detection devices such as milliwave radar units and cameras to support the driver in recognizing hazards, avoiding collisions, and minimizing damage in the event an accident does occur.
*2 Mazda Proactive Safety is Mazda's safety philosophy that aims to minimize the risks that can lead to an accident and maximize the range of conditions in which the driver can safely operate the vehicle. The various technologies it provides enable the driver to act appropriately through all driving processes, including cognition, judgment, and operation. It thereby helps prevent or minimize damage in the event an accident cannot be avoided. Mazda Proactive Safety will continue to evolve in the future.

• Among the variety of i-ACTIVSENSE advanced safety technologies, Mazda made a particular effort to keep the driver more aware of conditions so they can enjoy driving at night or at highway speeds with greater reassurance.
• Mazda's Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) detects vehicles approaching from the blind spot areas at the sides and rear. BSM also incorporates Mazda's Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) function, which alerts the driver when it detects vehicles approaching from either side as the driver backs up.
• Available as an additional feature, Smart Brake Support (SBS) helps avoid frontal collisions or minimize damage when traveling mid- to high-speed.

It's a shame that this car doesn't sell that well. It's such a great car inside and out.

They need a turbo with that 2.5L

it will make a world of difference.

and Mazda really should do some homework, charging $30k for a 4 banger 180hp when you can get the accord V6 for about the same price?

I really considered it at one point. When my friend asked me if I approved of it, I nearly jumped out of my seat.

You'd think with the falling yen that it would help out, but...

That revised Navigation screen makes such a difference to me. Yes, it's probably polarizing because it doesn't retract but I hated the old one.

^oh I didn't even notice the navi. That was a huge gripe among many with the 2014/2015... it's tiny ass screen. Wonky start/stop button placement though.

Like they did everything and then had the button left over and went, "SHIT!"

This guy gets it! The car needs a set of balls. The Mazda speed version can't get here soon enough since Mazda can not build a emissions compliant diesel. AKA huge failure on their part.

I've driven my friends '14 6i extensively (aswell as my previous '07 6i), car is very nice and fun to drive (drives very smooth, reminds me of driving an inline 6 BMW), especially with the starting price of like $22k. His base version also has more tech in it then my TSX does. The Grand Touring 6 was my close second choice.

I find the area behind the shifter very Audi-like.

Would be nice to see the MS3's engine in this car.

About time. It badly needs more power. When I test drove it, the 2.5 felt lethargic.

I reaaaally like the new 6, but the I4 engine killed it for me. A sedan that big needs more than 185hp and 180lbft.

I'm interested to see what the turbo ends up being like. You can get that car with a 6MT also. It'll end up being in contention now as a replacement for my TL, in about a year.

They probably realized they needed something that can compete with the 2.0T Accord which can also be had with a 6MT.

Bravo, Mazda.

We had one of the 2015s on the lot. Looked great. I've always liked the Mazda 6 design. The MazdaSpeed 6 was great. Over 274hp turbo 4cyl. Then they killed it and kept it 4cyl. A gutless 4cyl. Glad they decided to put a turbo on it. The 4cyl is horrible. Love the interior and the exterior design. Need a sporty engine to go with the sporty exterior look.

I wonder if that's the same engine as in the CX-7? I'm weary about buying first model year cars. But that looks like a suitable daily driver for me as well in the future.

The updated looks are accompanied by significant mechanical upgrades. While the current model offers just one engine, a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder, the new car will have two options. The first is again a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter engine, but it now has cylinder deactivation, allowing it to run on just two cylinders at times. For those who prefer power to efficiency, the Mazda6 will also be available with the turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder from the CX-9 crossover. In that application, it makes 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque.
CX-7 had 2.3T

I'd say the 6MT N/A 2.5 M6 was comparable (seat of the pants) to my 2G TL from the couple of early on test drives I had.

Doubtful that the 2.5T will come with a manual, but would be awesome if it does.

I'm interested to see what the turbo ends up being like. You can get that car with a 6MT also. It'll end up being in contention now as a replacement for my TL, in about a year.
almost time for me to replace my TL too.

considering the WRX, but this may do as well

I like the Mazda6, especially after the 2016 LCI.

It is hard to understand why this car failed so much, sales-wise, It just has a bad aura and it was a bit expensive, as the top of line 185HP price was at the same level as competitors with +100HP engines.. I doubt that this engine will save anything (too late).

You should be banned for spreading lies, time and again. The car failed? It sells more every month than the TLX could ever dream of achieving

Mazda6 sales should be compared to Accord, Camry and alikes, not TLX. You are not making any sense, as usual.

And assuming you are able to understand what you are looking at (often doubtful), you can observe that 2017 Mazda6 sales are almost a free fall, about 40% down from 2015. 2016 LCI didn't help at all.

Just taking a stab at this, but maybe Taco was trying to say that the Mazda 6 is to the Accord, Camry, Altima, and alikes as the Acura TLX is to the 3 series/4 series, C class, ES, and alikes because TLX sales "are almost a free fall" too.... down 28.10% from 2015

TLX sales (Jan 2015 - Oct 2015) = 40,585
TLX sales (Jan 2017 - Oct 2017) = 29,181

Based on all your prior posts about how great the TLX is, you do.
