The only thing on the exterior I'm not so sure about is the front. Everything else looks good.

Given how nice it looks and my general fondness for how Mazda's drive, I may consider buying one as my next car.

Looks great so far, first pics of the front looks sorta bug-eyed. Overall, a big improvement.

If they improve the shifter on the next speed3 and even out the torque curve, would totally rock one for a commuter.

I remember seeing HIDs on the current Mazda 3 and thinking how nice it was of Mazda to actually offer them on a car that's considered being their entry level. They're part of the luxury package.

Interior looks hawt as well.

IRVINE, Calif. — Mazda Motor Corporation has confirmed that the sedan version of the all-new MAZDA3 (known as Mazda Axela in Japan), fully redesigned for the first time in five years, will be revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show*1 on November 19, 2008.
The covers will be pulled off during Mazda’s press conference at 12:20 p.m. (local time) revealing the all-new MAZDA3, the latest evolution of Mazda’s Zoom-Zoom spirit.
Every element of the all-new MAZDA3 has been developed for heightened exhilaration, with a more refined sporty ride, top-class fuel economy and quietness. Environmental and safety features, based on Mazda’s long-term “Sustainable Zoom-Zoom” vision, aim to achieve a balance with fun-to-drive. Add in a new expressive face and Mazda’s dynamic design elements, and the all-new MAZDA3 is everything a driver could ask for in a sports compact.
The brand-new version of Mazda’s best-selling sports compact carries forward the heritage of Mazda and the pedigree of the current MAZDA3. Since its launch in 2003, the current MAZDA3 has sold approx. 1.8 million vehicles*2 in over 100 countries and has won more than 90 global motoring awards*3 to date. The MAZDA3 accounts for almost one in three Mazdas sold every year.
Following the world debut of the North American specification sedan with 2.0- and 2.5-liter engines at the show, the five-door hatchback version will be revealed in line with Mazda’s global sales schedule.

Post Mazda3 MPS Hatchback Spotted for First Time on Nürburgring

From WCF...

The news front for the Mazda3 just got a little hotter with these spy images snapped on the Nurburgring today. These photos not only show the 5-door hatch in the flesh, but the sporty Mazdaspeed Axela (Japan)/ Mazdaspeed3 (U.S.)/ Mazda3 MPS (Europe) version.

At the recent Australian International Motor Show, Mazda revealed to the media images of the all-new Mazda3 sedan with the announcement that it will makes its public debut in Los Angeles next month. Following soon after would be the 5-door hatchback. We believe this to be Detroit in January.

When comparing these images to the uncovered EU trademark office design sketches, details such as the headlamp shape, side mirrors, character lines in the hood, fenders and side body are exactly the same. Additional distinguishing MPS characteristics include the massive hood scoop, big sporty alloy wheels, sporty side skirts, beefy dual exhaust and rear roof spoiler.

So the big question for this Mazda3 MPS – what's under the hood? Rumors are indicating the 300hp 2.5-liter 5-cylinder turbo from the Focus RS could be in there or the same 2.3-liter turbo massaged from 263hp to 300hp could be the one.

Another question surrounding the Mazda3 - which platform is it built? Is it based on the same front wheel drive Ford C1 global platform as the current generation Mazda3 and Ford Focus. Or will it be based on the new C2 platform which is speculated to accommodate all-wheel-drive?

Either way Mazda has done a very nice job of translating their new design language, first seen in the new Mazda6, to the Mazda3. We expect further details to emerge closer to launch.

Some bored guys with black duct tape tried but failed miserably at camo work. It's so obvious what car this is.
The more interesting thing about this would have been to know the lap time.

That grill looks..... weird. As if the car REALLY IS smiling. Either way it'll probably end up way better looking than the new WRX wagon
