2013 Mazda Club Sport 3 Concept
Press release...
The Club Sport 3 Concept features many similarities with its Mazda6 big brother but with a few extra robust features. With a Mazda Design-exclusive Slate White exterior finish, this five-door is furnished with a more ambitious Club Sport paint scheme. Metallic Silver lines trace along the arches of the wheels, the base of the side skirts and the contours of the doors and C-pillars. Glossy Light Gray and matte Black Mica mimic some of these patterns but with louder, wider direction. Vibrant Red vinyl follows along with thin lines, providing contrasting texture and dynamic flow. The only other non-painted surfaces are the dramatic alpha and numeric Black vinyl call-outs of the fuel door, tire size and SKYACTIV®[1] TECHNOLOGY pronounced across the hood.
Like the Club Sport 6, the Mazda3 variant features a Mazda Design-developed accessory aero kit which adds the body color-contrasting Brilliant Black front, rear and side diffusers along with a new rear spoiler style. Designed in North America, this aero kit will be made available for all 2014 Mazda3 vehicles sold worldwide. Pricing will be announced closer to its on-sale date.
Equipped with a SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter gasoline engine, the Club Sport 3 features a modified SKYACTIV-Drive six-speed manual transmission derived from Mazda's CX-5 compact SUV. Using a short 4.7:1 final drive ratio, the gearing is 20 percent shorter than in a SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter-equipped Mazda3. The Club Sport 3 also utilizes a Wavetrac® helical limited-slip differential for additional torque. Added performance features include a CUSCO coilover kit, a Racing Beat performance exhaust and Brembo two-piece, six-piston 380x32 drilled brake rotors. Rays 57 Motorsport G07FXX 20-inch Black and Machining-colored 10-spoke wheels are packaged with Bridgestone Potenza™ RE-11 235/35R19 road-gripping performance tires.
Not to be outdone, the Club Sport 3's interior offers its own "pop" with Red aniline leather throughout – seat trim, door panel inserts, center console, IP decor and a steering wheel stripe. Premium Black leather is reserved for the steering wheel, arm rest, emergency brake and shifter boot. The front seats feature perforated leather within the seat bolsters with a diffusing line pattern in the seat back creating a "3," identical to the Metallic Silver numeral painted onto the vehicle's driver's side door. Stitching patterns also spared no expense with trapezoidal Momo-inspired contrast-Red stitching on the steering wheel and double-stitched tonal deck seams on the doors, seats and IP. The steering wheel features a single Red aniline leather strip at the minimalist but top-of-mind high-noon position.

Mazda has done a nice job on their recent models. The vector concept looks slick.

Looks great.

Wow. So impressed with this car, both inside and out. Both the coupe and sedan. Can't wait to see the real thing in high-end trim level.

Mazda FB posted this today. Thought it looked pretty clean.

I would imagine that since they don't offer the Mazda3 with a 2.5L with a manual, an MS3 is inevitable. Or maybe they just don't want to encroach on the Mazda6, which has that very combo.

Have read from multiple sources, that a 2.5 6MT is coming, but have yet to see a release date. Considering a 3sGT Hatchback 6MT or a 6 Touring 6MT to replace my 220k TL. Leaning more toward the 3, need to go drive one.

I'm considering the same cars. The 3 S is relatively pricey though for a compact car. I was thinking of just getting a 6 Sport and doing aftermarket ICE to make up for Mazda's terrible entertainment options (at least on the 6)

Stopped by & took a 3i Touring Sedan for a spin on Monday, it was the only 3 with a 6MT on the lot. Wanted to drive a 3i GT Hatch 6MT, but I don't think there are any near me or my office.
Surprised me that the little 2.0 is pretty peppy for only having 155hp. Didn't care for the tiny digital tach, but that was pretty much my only complaint with it. The 3i Touring doesn't have the bigger screen with nav/etc. Got myself situated in it & jumped in the back seat, not an S-Class, but my knees weren't in the seatback & I'm 6'0".
This is high up on my 'Replace the 14yr old TL list' at the moment. No one at the dealer knew anything about the 3s with the 6MT, other than telling me 'it's not being built', which I don't beleive, since Mazda press releases said it's coming, just not when.
Didn't get a chance to take a 2.5 6AT out, but I imagine it's got to be peppier than the 2.0.

regarding the 3S with the 6MT, that was the first thing I tried to build when I first heard about the new Mazda3. There is simply no option for it in the "Build Your Mazda" application... but there is a 6MT for the 3i.

Hoping it's not going to be delayed until the 2015 models start hitting lots, though.

I'm crazy about the 6's exterior. But the interior (nav option) in the 3 looks better. I also like the smaller size, but the price seems disproportionate for a car in its class.

I didn't care for the new 3 when it first came out, but after seeing a few on the road & driving it, it's grown on me, even the glued on iPad on the dash

I feel the exact same way. At this moment my dilemma would be hatch vs. sedan. And the color. The high up on top navi screen has grown on me as well.

Mazda 3?
Hatchback, obviously. Come on now.

I think I am the only one who doesn't care for the new 6 or the new 3...I feel they went bland.
#513
I haven't cared too much for the 6 since the 1st gen. And I can't even remember the last time I lusted over a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder midsize sedan this much
For a simple guy like me, it's really all I'm looking for in a daily.

Finally had a chance to test drive the Mazda3. It is a nice little car and the HUD is pretty cool to have, but it gets pricey fast. The one I tested, at nearly $28k, was pretty well loaded, but at that price, there are a number of other cars to consider that are more fun to drive. Full thoughts in the review in the link below.

Great little review. The 3s is high on my list, but I'm patiently holding out for a 6MT option.

I wouldn't count on it. Considering that the larger Mazda6 doesn't offer the 6MT with the top-spec Grand Touring model, I would not expect it to show up on the Mazda3. Somehow, manufacturers believe that people who buy "antiquated" manual transmissions also are afraid of other technologies.

Now, will Mazda actually do it? Who knows.

Even if it does finally make an appearance, I would not expect it to be available on the Grand Touring trim. I am less keen on Mazda's word these days since they also have been promising the Mazda6 in the US as a wagon and with a diesel motor and neither has come to fruition just yet.

Mazda has marched to their own drum for a while. This latest design language is the most attractive to come out of Japan in a while and is definitely the best of all the Japanese manufacturers. If they don't get with the program, they're going to lose a lot of sales.
There's no reason why Ford, Mini, and VW should get all the $20-30K hatchback sales when the Mazda 3 is such a good car.
