Very cool, but since this is only a track car, there are better and cheaper options out there. I'd rather have something along the lines of a Lister Storm LMP or perhaps last year's Audi R8.

To put the price of this car into perspective, you can easily buy twenty fully-optionned Radical SR3's and have your own racing series with your friends.

The Radical SR3 can lap the 'Ring in 7:19 on a partially wet track. I think a Carrera GT is in the 7:40's

From Rsportscars.com...

The New Track-Only MC12 Corsa Based on the Championship-Winning Car

Maserati has taken the wraps of its $1.7 million supercar, a new track-only version of the World Championship-winning Maserati MC12 called the Corsa and which will only be sold to valued Maserati customers who will be restricted to using their new supercar on private track days.

“This is a unique opportunity to own a car that is the reigning GT World Champion,” says Edward Butler, General Manager for Maserati in Australia and New Zealand. “The world-beating racing car was developed from the Maserati MC12 road car and the Corsa is derived directly from the GT1 racing car exclusively for track use. It will not be homologated for road use.”

"The MC12 Corsa has been developed in response to the customer demand to own the MC12 racing car and fuelled by the growth in track days, where owners can drive their cars at high speeds in the safety of a race track without the obvious constraints of normal road use,” says Mr Butler. “Without doubt the MC12 Corsa is the ultimate track day car!”

The 756 bhp MC12 Corsa has been developed from the MC12 GT1 which won the 2005 FIA GT Manufacturers Cup. It will be used exclusively on track during private test sessions and exhibition activities organized by Maserati. It will not be homologated for road use or for any racing activity.

The Maserati MC12 Corsa, which is living testimony of Maserati’s ability to individually tailor make unique cars with the highest technological content, will be on sale at the price of a $1.7 million in September. Available in the official Maserati “Blue Victory” color, it may also be personalized upon request with several optional items.

Total production of the Maserati MC12 Corsa will not exceed 12 units worldwide.

Maserati to produce MC12 Corsa special edition - - Source: Autoweek

Maybe the Ferrari FXX—the track-use-only version of the Enzo available only to the super rich with driving skills—isn’t exclusive enough for you. Or maybe you’d like to be able to ship your car home, instead of back to Modena, after a day on the racetrack.

Whatever the reason, Maserati this fall will offer up to 12 lucky buyers worldwide the Enzo-based MC12 Corsa, developed from the GT1 type that won the 2005 FIA GT Manufacturers Cup.

Available exclusively for track use, the build-to-order $1.3 million MC12 Corsa supercar will be geared more toward racing and “pleasure” driving than the track test sessions run for FXX owners. Like FXX, Maserati will house the cars in Modena if requested, but unlike FXX owners can also garage their cars wherever they choose.

So far, Maserati has no plans to run MC12 Corsa programs on tracks in the United States, but assures that buyers will get their track time on some of Europe’s best-known and most-fun racing circuits.

You want this car? Well, BoostedJack is selling his...gotta cough up $3M though.

Back in 2006, Maserati introduced a track-only version of its MC12 supercar that was actually closer in spec to the dedicated MC12 GT1 race car that ended up being quite successful in GT competition. It was called the “MC12 Versione Corse”, and just 12 of them were built and sold to well-heeled track enthusiasts around the globe, with the original price believed to be around 1,000,000 euros (approximately $1,080,989) before taxes.

Now you have the chance to own of those 12 beauties as the car with chassis number two is up for sale at a dealership in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It’s listed on the duPont Registry with an asking price of $2,999,990. Chassis number one, a black example modified to be street legal, was last up for sale back in 2008.

Chassis number two hasn’t been made street legal but that doesn’t matter as you’d probably never want to drive it on a public road as there’s a good chance you wouldn’t even make it out of your own driveway given how low to the ground the car is. And even if you did make it out of the driveway, there’s some seriously stiff suspension to deal with as well as a severe lack of visibility.

That's why we’d recommend only using this baby on the track, where it was born and bred. The chassis is based on the one in the Ferrari Enzo supercar but the engine is the same V-12 fitted to Ferrari’s Enzo-based FXX track car. It’s a 6.0-liter mill tuned to deliver 744 horsepower, a 123-hp gain over the standard MC12's V-12.

The 0-62 mph run takes just 3.8 seconds and top speed is in excess of 202 mph. Drive is sent to the rear wheels via a heavily revised version of the MC12’s six-speed Cambiocorsa gearbox, which has been designed to offer faster gear changes in the Versione Corse.

There's an orange/white one in my city... It's been around for 4 years now, I think. It's also modified by EDO, or some shit. I dunno how the guy drives it though- it sounds like an f1 car when just idling. SOOOO loud.

No, it was SUPER loud. And not in a good way either. At idle it sounded like a car that should only be driven at the track, not around town.

As per Edo Competition's website (the tuner of the car):

"The first modification necessary to meet street legal standards was to alter the exhaust system, which required the addition of silencers and catalytic converters not standard on the stock model. These changes brought the sound level down from 110 decibels to 90 dB – making it legal for European streets. However, at over 4000 rpm – or at the flick of a switch – the cunning on board computer opens valves in the exhaust system that bypasses these pesky sound silencing, power robbing, smog reducing innovations which gives the car the same sound and performance as the stock version. "

110 DB is stupid loud for a car.
