M&D: CLS 500 PD550 (based on Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class) News
Press release...
If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Mercedes-Benz should be pleased that their sleek CLS (C219) four-door coupe of 2004 inspired the A7, BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe and VW Passat CC. Along with the second generation CLS these cars collectively represent the four-door coupe genre today.
While the sleek appearance of the original CLS gave it almost feminine charm, the second generation CLS (C218) wears a more sculpted and muscular look. With this more aggressive look as a starting point, M&D exclusive cardesign took the CLS 500 variant and turned it into a weapons grade mean machine.
The modifications began with the PD550 Black Edition body kit, which consists of a new front bumper featuring CLS 63 AMG driving lights. Air intakes were added to the bonnet, and new front wings, side skirts, rear bumper with integrated diffuser and a bootlid spoiler complete the bodywork conversion.
The rear diffuser is flanked by the quad exhaust tailpipes from the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series. These were black powder coated and attached to the modified OE exhaust system.
Attention grabbing is an understated way of describing the spectacular bespoke foil wrap finish that mimics the US military style disruptive camouflage designed to break up the perceived size and shape of an object.
This ‘Stealth’ wrapping uses a matt white base, on top of which angular elements in Matt Charcoal and Matt Black are combined to form an effective Urban Camouflage. However, with no enemy combatants in sight, it does not matter that the low-key effect is undermined by bright orange accents that jump out from the monochromatic background.
To fill out the wheel arches, M&D exclusive cardesign fitted their two-piece Rennen Forged RL17 forged alloy wheels in 9.0x20 and 10.5x20-inch sizes, shod with 245/30R20 and 295/25R20 Hankook Ventus S1 Evo tyres.
The spokes of these wheels are left and right handed according to rotational direction, and the rim surface features a brushed alloy texture with a unique ‘Smoke’ paint finish.
The final contributor to the cars low and purposeful stance is the M&D exclusive cardesign Airmatic suspension electronic lowering module.
Continuing the theme started by the starkly contrasting orange highlights on the bodywork, the big Brembo brake calipers are painted Lamborghini metallic orange, and appear to glow behind the dark wheel spokes.
The deep bass profundo V8 growl escaping from the Black Series tailpipes originates from the bi-turbo 4.7 litre engine with its two-tone engine cover (graphite grey / Lamborghini Orange metallic).
Custom ECU tuning by M & D exclusive cardesign takes the stock 408 hp output to a rousing 498 hp, with the torque curve growing from 600 Nm to around 740 Nm. Removal of the factory 250 km/h top speed limiter is part of this ECU remapping.
The vehicle shown is for sale!

I saw an i8 wrapped in a frozen gray color that looked that CLS, not so much. To each his own!
