I am not even sure if we will get this 2.5 liter engine.

IF... and big IF, since Toyota is a pretty conservative company in terms of business tactics... they price this the same as a TSX, that means 27,500 for a comparable (maybe a few options not included) IS250, that would drive some other makers pretty nutty...
Think about choosing between the IS, the TSX, the BMW 1 series... with similar price and the options advantage to IS, the BMW 1 series might lose steam before it even gets on the ground here in the states. And that hatchback body ain't gonna turn heads here in the US.
Junkster, who figures a well-equiped IS will be 30k

Unless they are moving the IS up in price and size... then I would have to see it.

Too bad the thing will be up on a turntable and can't get in it. I'll be at the show on Friday.
Everything about the car says 3 series competitior, except perhaps the price.

I do not like the front at all. Looks pinched and creased together. The rear is nice. I love the interior. The two tones; the color of the leather; the wood and metal accents... all of it. Very nice.

That interior is pretty nice. Look at the buttons...they nailed those.
Man...I really hope they still offer a stick in both models. I'll serisouly give these cars a look.

The interior looks better than the new GS's!
The gauge cluster looks very nice. Keepin' it simple, that's how it works.
That interior + the level of equipment listed...no way is it even coming in under 30K. I'd say 33K at least.

loving it more and more ... i am betting we will get both engines and they will come with your choice of auto/manual. why? because all of the competitors in this class have that option (except the tsx) and they learned from the first time around. i wonder what the mpg will be on the 2.5 w/direct injection...

Wow, it even has 3 passenger memo! Yeah, this thing is going to price in the mid to upper 30's when nicely equiped. I think to date, only the C-Class has memo for the passenger.
And the push button starting is nice. When I test drove a new GS last week I walked up, the car beeped, pulled on the door handle got in and buckled up. After putting my foot on the break, I pushed the start/ stop button and the car started up while the steering wheel tilted and telescoped to position. Nice!
And Lexus will give this as standard fair? From what I can tell the new 3's system is like the 7's. Stick the remote fob in a slot and push a button. I'd rather have the Lexus Smart Access or Acura's Keyless Access where I keep the remote/key in my pocket.
Score one for Lex. Can't wait to see what Acura will do in terms of the TSX and TL in the near future with people guessing as to whether or not a turbo will be offered on the TSX and which Acura will be the first Hybrid/Performance model

Sweat! Now if Acura would jump on the bandwagon and offer Keyless Access on all their products (minus RSX and current NSX).

The front is weak, the rear is hot. The interior, I like plenty. I like that it's RWD and a Lexus. I hate that it's not original, but everything considered, the balance tips in its favor.
I can see myself in a slightly used 6MT IS350 w/ nav for ~25k.

did anyone else read the detailed press release?
The IS is being built in Poland... that's right, Poland. Is the US version also coming from Poland or will we get a Japan plant version?
I think Toyota would be one of the first large automakers to build out of Poland. I remember reading in Businessweek that Polands lack of and weak infrastructure made it a hard choice for automakers to invest in, although the labor costs would be a huge advantage.
Hmm... experts are already prediciting that the 3.5 recently born in the Avalon will be the USDM engine of choice.
The US price, though... dang, we're gonna have to wait till the New York auto show.

its probable considering the avalon makes 280hp... a few tweaks and you get 300+ hp for the IS350

More from the press report...
Toyota has finally decided to own up and go up against the 3 series head on...
Officials at the Geneva show have been quoted as saying that the new IS will be accompanied by a coupe, droptop, and a possible performance version.
I'm sure BMW is listening to this news.
Oh, and no wagon/sportswagon for the IS.
Junkster, who thinks Toyota might need a V8 for the IS450

^ IS450. Niiiccceee idea. The interior is such an improvement over the last gen car. This car, coupled with the Avalon, really makes the ES330 look obselete. I wonder how much longer it'll be around.

He probably means for the TSX and TL.
I think this keyless access thing is going to be the new "it" thing to have on luxury cars.
