^LOL. I'm happy that their working on making the car sportier. After reading the new S500 makes 388HP and the new S600 makes 517HP, Lexus needs to really make sure their ducks are in a row (as far as dynamics, not just design).

- the LS600L will be around 460-470hp (around 350kWs)
- Will hava new 7-speed transmission
- Upcoming Tokyo Auto Show is where Lexus LS prototype should be shown

The sketch above actually matches the spy shots we saw from the car testing at the N'ring. Page 2 of this thread.

Let the next round of the HP war begins, A8 and 760Li's V12s are too "underpowered" compare to S600 and LS600L's ones.

Pretty scary if you ask me.

Bring it on. I look foward to seeing what this car will finally look like. We all know that it'll be powerful, larger, and refined. But the new S is a stunner, IMO. Lexus' needs to bring it on full force (design wise).

I think the new S looks like a damn Lexus. And those wheel arches got to go. I am so sad with what they did to it inside and out.

The LS has been the top seller for sometime now and I don't think they want to alienate buyers too much with crazy styling. I expect more STYLE but still, the usual dose of bland. And they will sell every damn one.

Motor Trent mag is reporting that the next V12 LSS (as they call it) will get a new 8-SPEED tranny to overcome the Mercedes 7G-Tronic.

Obviously there are way too many rumors and combinations of engine displacement and power, including hybrid possibilities for the LS.

Specs sound good; I'm sure Toyota will overdeliver with this car. It looks substantial, but put it next to a similarly kitted AMG S-class (the new one) and it pales, design wise. Hope that's just a chop.

Now LS is going green - - By Peter Lyon - Source: Autoexpress

The race to create the first hybrid luxury saloon is over - and Lexus has won it. Exclusive pictures in this week's mag reveal the new LS600h, which will debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in October.

With four-wheel drive, the car follows hot on the heels of the RX400h - the world's only petrol/electric SUV - and cements Lexus as the leader in the field. The 600h also provides the first glimpse of the all-new LS styling. It's well ahead of the scheduled on-sale date of summer 2007.

Using a 5.0-litre V8 mated to an updated version of Toyota's hybrid system, the LS600h is expected to generate in excess of 500bhp. An insider working on the project told Auto Express the V8 engine alone will produce an impressive 390bhp. With the performance of a V12 and combined fuel economy said to be around 30mpg, the LS600h has huge potential and is one of a number of forthcoming Lexus hybrids. The firm will also produce a new petrol/electric supercar - currently codenamed the LF-A and due next year - as well as a 400bhp GS450h, to be unveiled in the spring. Meanwhile, Toyota bosses will soon celebrate a momentous occasion. Until now, Lexus cars have been export only, but as of 30 August, the range of luxury models will also be sold in Japan.

Wow. The pressures on. This is very impressive news. Lexus spanks the competition even without the electric system with the 5.0L V8 making 390HP...

Where is Acura's entry? Could have been a nice niche for them to fill.

I don't like it, its looks so forced, rather than what the company would actually come up with.

Ehh, not so sure I agree. The Q45 makes 340hp with a 4.5l that I don't think was really even tuned for power and its not really all that new of an engine. Overseas, the Q45 is rated at ~360hp with lower emissions requirements. Overall, if Infiniti does want to go ahead with a new Q, the engine won't be restrained by this Lexus hp rating imo and this Lexus engine is still at least 1+yrs off.

Spy Shots: Lexus LS 460/LS 460h - - by Hans Lehmann/Hidden Image - - Source: The Car Connection

Lexus' new flagship sedan has been spied. Caught on a testing run at a filling station in Kingman, Ariz., the new LS mules reveal more about the future of the Toyota brand's big four-door.

Among the test fleet of four vehicles, there was also the current LS430, nicely parked next to the prototype of its replacement. At first sight one might not notice the difference between the two cars, but looking closer it is quite obvious. The new one on the left has bigger tires, is wider, and parts of the body look handmade. Also note the fender bulges front and rear, needed to cover the extra-wide tires mounted on large-diameter wheels. Along with the Lexus cars they had company from a BMW 7-Series and a Mercedes S-Class, which were included in the test fleet to give a direct side-by-side driving comparison of the Lexus with its top competitors.

The replacement LS sedan is expected to have a 4.6-liter V-8 engine, which would naturally result in the car being renamed as the LS460. Along with the more powerful engine will come the usual improvements to luxury, safety, and electronics that Lexus builds into each new vehicle.

Lexus will also offer a hybrid version of the LS460. The hybrid version is rumoured to be named the LS600h, and will combine Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive with a V-8 engine.

The 2007 Lexus LS460 is expected for fall 2006, and the hybrid model will likely be introduced several months later. The computer rendering above shows what the production model might look like.

It's most likely just a test mule disguise...do you REALLY think toy/lex is stupid enough to make an ALL NEW model so similar in appearance to its predecessor?

Even Acura isn't that stupid.

Man the current LS looks so awkward in that pic. I always thought it looked bulbous when it first debuted anyway. But if Toyota continues with the styling, the new LS will be something to mess with.

That's just a skin. The new car is underneath. Toy/Lex is going to great lengths to not give us an indication of what the next gen sheetmetal will be. We do know it'll be bigger in size, with bigger wheels and a bigger (4.6L V8) engine with bigger power...
