I can't stop staring at the 2 knobs above the steering wheel

It is nice but i dont see how it can compete with S or 7.

Not liking the door panels. There's no cohesion with the rest of the interior. There are too many different lines and shapes going in all sorts of directions. It's dizzying.

I like everything except those door panels and the horizontal lines running across the center of dash.

I still prefer the current exterior design. This one isn't doing anything for me.

It's not terrible. But, I'd probably still swing towards the Europeans.

As in the LC, twist knobs to select the drive mode and stability-control setting are mounted on top of the gauge pod, a nod to Lexus’s LFA supercar.

Those panels and Kiriko glass are a special option from what we were told. This will be the standard, more traditional design.

https://www.netcarshow.com/lexus/2018-ls_500h/

The 2018 Lexus LS 500h, the full hybrid version of Lexus' new flagship sedan, was unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.

The model, which follows the world premiere of the twin-turbo gas V6-powered LS 500 at the 2017 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, is a further manifestation of how Lexus has reimagined the luxury sedan, presenting bold design, enhanced performance and a sophisticated appeal to capture the imagination of forward-thinking customers.

The car's design successfully brings together the virtues of a long-wheelbase four-door sedan with a low, coupe-like profile, positioning the LS perfectly across the growing sedan and coupe segments.

The cabin has benefited from an equally new approach, focusing on "progressive comfort," interpreting Japanese aesthetics and craftsmanship traditions in the context of an advanced, luxurious and innovative vehicle interior such as the unique door trim ornamentation. Notably, the LS 500 was honored at the NAIAS with the EyesOn Design Award for Design Excellence - Interior Design.

Conceived as the new global pinnacle of the Lexus brand, the LS goes beyond what the world expects from a luxury car. Chief Engineer Toshio Asahi explained: "Developing such a flagship model required a massive paradigm shift. Rather than being bound by the conventions that had defined luxury cars in the past, we aimed to create a car with innovative, emotional and sensual appeal that would draw customers' eyes away from other luxury cars and provide entirely new values."

The Lexus LS 500h is equipped with the new Lexus Multi Stage Hybrid System, which provides enhanced responsiveness and linear acceleration, particularly when accelerating from a full stop. The powertrain features a 3.5-liter V6 Dual VVT-i V6 gasoline engine and two electric motors, together delivering maximum system power of 354 hp.

The Lexus LS 500h is built on the new Lexus Global Architecture - Luxury (GA-L) platform, which is shared with the all-new LC. This platform ensures a low center of gravity and optimum weight distribution, contributing to the car's essential stability and handling agility, which in turn deliver increased driver rewards. The fundamental high rigidity of the chassis allows the new multi-link suspension to be tuned to achieve enhanced handling performance and the supreme comfort for which the LS is renowned. The car's dynamic performance also benefits from the coordination of braking, steering and stability systems through Lexus Dynamic Handling.

Advanced technologies are further used to deliver impressive safety performance. The LS 500h's available Advanced Safety Package features the world's first Intuitive Pedestrian Detection system with Active Steering within the lane.

Omotenashi, expressing the unique sense of Japanese hospitality, defines the LS 500h's whisper-quiet and luxurious interior. Supreme comfort is provided by front and rear seats with multiple power adjustment, heating, cooling, and massage functions. There is also an optional rear seat arrangement that includes an extending leg ottoman and the most generous leg room of any LS generation. At 123 inches, the wheelbase of the new LS is in fact 1.3-inches longer than on the current long wheelbase LS 600h L.

Lexus Takumi craftsmanship also contributes to the special quality of the LS 500h's cabin, in luxurious new trims, materials and detailing, including a new pleating treatment and Kiriko glasswork on the inner door panels.

Love it. I'll buy one in 10 years after it has depreciated completely and still have a reliable luxury car.

As great as the engineering and interior and 90% of the exterior is, I would never own it based on one thing alone: that front end is just plain godawful. I couldn't stand looking at it.

It does stand out like a sore thumb on the darker colors. Should have been smoked.

It looks better on white... less in-your-face.

Or maybe it's just the lighting.

Agree. The front ends of most best-selling premium luxury cars all look very elegant, but this Lexus front end styling is definitely not one of them.

They've ruined it. Just like the rest of the Lexus lineup, apparently their designers have no aesthetic sense of how lines and curves are supposed to flow together. That interior looks like it was put together by a kindergartener using every ruler, French curve, and protractor they could find. There is no unifying theme or feel, instead it is just a cacophony of mismatched materials, colors, and lines. It's almost painful to look at, inside and out!

I can't believe i am saying this about Lexus.... most of their cars are Dead on Arrival. Reminds me of Acura days.

If they dont do anything, even Acura will laugh at them in no time.

I don't like the grille. It's absolutely huge. Yet somehow, it doesn't bother me that much. Maybe because it flows with the rest of the car?

In contrast, I hated the 4G TL grille.

What really bugs me though is the interior, there lines across the dash and the door panels are terrible.

When Lexus came out with their current design language, I must admit, it was a bit of an acquired taste for me. But it grew on me. And I liked it for the most part. Gone were the days of extremely boring Lexus cars.

Problem is... I can't stand that design language anymore. It is just way too much. I can't imagine the looks aging well either... This design language has been out, what, five years? Once the paint starts losing its lustre, people will look at these car when they're 12 years old and be like wtf was Lexus thinking?!

I applaud Lexus for ditching the old man looks, but the looks are just too wild now. What's worse is the performance doesn't match the looks. Every Lexus is supbar in fuel economy and even performance figures. They excel at absolutely nothing. But they sell like hot cakes because of their really high reliability. Mind boggling.

That is not just Lexus. they are doing that to Toyota too.

I mean the Camry on one hand looks good with 19" wheels, black roof and red interior... on the other hand, you are like WTF is wrong with Toyota for doing that? It is a Camry!!
It is like a 80 years old grandma showing off her G string.

Almost any car's look is improved once it is lowered with a set of decent looking wheels.

https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/2...un-flat-tires/

Run-flat tires suck because they make your car ride poorly and they're both heavy and expensive, but you know what's even worse? Having run-flat tires improperly installed on your wheels. Unfortunately, that's precisely what some 6,300 2018 Lexus LS 500 and LS 500h owners are dealing with now, according to Wednesday's recall notice from Lexus' parent company, Toyota.

The recall states that because the tires were improperly fitted to the vehicle's wheels at the factory, a crack could develop in the run-flat tire's reinforced sidewall, which can lead to the separation of parts of the tire's tread layer. Things could get kind of crashy from there.

Thankfully, not only is this a relatively small recall, but the fix is easy and involves fitting four brand-new tires to the vehicle. This recall repair will be done without cost to the vehicle's owner.

Owners of affected vehicles can expect to be notified of the recall via mail starting in April. If you think your car could be affected by this or any other recall, get your vehicle's VIN number and visit NHTSA's recall lookup page.

Spy-Shots of a Lexus LS Hydrogen Fuel Cell Prototype Surface Online

Home > News > Content

【Summary】As spy shots surface online, it looks like there's some truth to a rumored Lexus LS with a hydrogen-powered fuel cell powertrain.

Manish Kharinta Aug 06, 2019 2:45 PM PT

A spy shot of the Lexus LS hydrogen-powered, fuel cell prototype.

For quite some time, rumors about a new Lexus LS EV equipped with hydrogen fuel cells were circulating in the auto industry. As recent spy shots of the hydrogen-powered electric vehicle have surfaced online, it looks like there's more truth to these rumors than initially expected.

The fuel cell-powered Lexus LS is based on the Japanese automaker's LF-FC concept which first made its debut in October 2015.

The heavily camouflage Lexus LS does not give much away, except for a partial glimpse into the headlight, taillight, and front grille design. We expect that the fuel cell-powered LS will receive a complete design refresh, which will include updated light clusters and a new grille design that will be a part of the Japanese carmaker's design language for its 2021 model year portfolio.

The fuel cell-powered Lexus LS might share a more advanced version of the powertrain featured in the next-gen Toyota Mirai. It's also expected that Toyota will offer a sport all-wheel-drive system as standard in the hydrogen-powered Lexus LS sedan.

In the LF-FC concept, the all-wheel-drive system is powered by what Lexus called "a high output power system" which sends the power to the rear wheels and to the in-wheel motors up front. Lexus called this setup its "innovative drive system", which regulates the power to offer optimum torque, handling and stability.

To maintain optimal weight distribution, Lexus positioned the power control unit at the front while the fuel cell stack was moved to the back in the LF-FC concept. The company also arranged the hydrogen fuel tanks in a "T-shaped" layout for the same reasons. It is unclear as to how much of this technology will eventually make its way into the production model.

The new Lexus LS will offer more cabin space than the Toyota Mirai and might even get a 5-seat layout instead of the 4-seat setup of the Mirai.

Both Lexus and its parent company Toyota have refrained from disclosing any further details about the powertrain it plans on using in the LS fuel cell sedan.

However, we do expect that the all-new Lexus LS will hit the market as a 2021 model sometime next year.

Have seen a couple of these new LS on the road. Still an understated car (even with that grille), but has some real presence on the road, IMO.
