The point of concern was the delayed response from the stability control. But you can just see how the wording can lead people to start saying that this car is unsafe because it's prone to roll over.
Consumer Reports = worthless.

This is much ado about nothing. CR threw this out there to get more attention for themselves.

Disgusting IMHO.

Exactly, the same thing could happen to any car/suv sliding sideways into a curb.

Sure...still doesn't change the fact that I think the GX is kinda lousy.

Exclamation Recall

Washington -- Toyota Motor Corp. this afternoon will announce a recall of its 2010 Lexus GX 460, after it suspended sales last week on the heels of a rare "Don't Buy" rating from Consumer Reports.

Last week, Toyota was able to replicate a test conducted by the influential magazine that raised rollover concerns on the luxury SUV.

The recall of about 5,000 vehicles is expected to include a software upgrade to address concerns about the electronic stability control; another 1,000 affected vehicles were sold outside the country.

The company stopped production of the vehicle in Japan through April 28 and suspended sales worldwide.

Today's recall follows Friday's call-back of nearly 600,000 1998-2010 Sienna minivans to address potential corrosion in the spare tire carrier cable in cold weather states.

Horrible to see that a rag like CR could force a recall.

...but thanks to uninformed media run amok and idiot politicians grandstanding, Toyota is forced to do stuff like this to save face and keep the PR machine up and running.

Consumer Reports lifts Lexus "Don't Buy" rating
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100507/...nsumer_reports
The magazine said in a statement that it took the GX-460 it had purchased for the test to a dealership for the software update, then returned to the test track.

"This time, the ESC system intervened earlier and its rear did not slide out in the lift-off oversteer test," the magazine said. "Overall, CR did not experience any safety concerns with the corrected GX 460 in CR's handling tests."

Lexus has given its body-on-frame GX460 SUV a minor update for the 2020 model year, with the headline feature being yet another new interpretation of the brand's spindle grille. The massive maw now has a really interesting angular 3D pattern, which Lexus says better aligns the GX with the rest of the Lexus lineup. The 2020 GX has standard triple-beam LED headlights with a new design, but the rest of the GX's exterior styling remains the same.

A new Off-Road package is the other standout feature. It adds a 360-degree camera that can also show the view from underneath the car, a transmission cooler, a fuel-tank protector, and what Lexus calls Crawl Control and Multi-Terrain Select. Crawl Control has five different settings to modulate the car's throttle and brakes at low speeds, improving traction over rough terrain, while Multi-Terrain Select is basically a fancy grouping of off-road driving modes.

Rioja Red leather is a new option, as is Gray Sapele wood trim, but otherwise the interior is the same as it was before, with a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen stuck in the center of the aging dash. The 301-hp 4.6-liter V-8 engine also carries over and remains paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

Finally, the 2020 GX gets a handful of now standard safety features, part of Lexus's Safety System+ suite that is standard on all its other vehicles. Lane-departure warning, automatic high-beams, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision warning with pedestrian detection are all newly standard across the board, having previously only been available on the top Luxury trim.

While Lexus hasn't announced pricing or a release date for the updated GX460, it should go on sale by the end of the year and receive a price hike of around a few hundred dollars over the 2019 model's $53,530 base price. Given that the GX is now a decade old, this facelift is most likely to tide people over until an actually new GX appears in a few years' time.
