A sporty hybrid Lexus hatchback...It will be kind of odd since it will most likely be out of the price range of typical hatchback buyers

 

Not the F version, but the regular one....I think I read in Car & Driver that it was a total snore to drive. The front looks nice, but from the side and rear, not so much. The rear would be better if it didn't look so squashed. It'll be a missed opportunity, IMO. I think there is a market for a sporty, upmarket hatch, especially with good mpg, but it can't be ridiculously slow. People who want the utility of a small SUV but want better mpg would be interested.

 

^if the 8.3s 0-60mph time is considered slow in a Honda hybrid...I can't imagine 10's+ in a sporty fun-to-drive Lexus......................

 

Should provide good competition for the Audi A3 TDI

 

I don't agree... there are plenty of pricey hatchbacks and people still buy them

 

There would be no way in hell I would get the CT200h over the A3 TDI

I was just looking at this car on their website, and 134hp coming from a 1.8 4 cylinder engine is weak, especially in its price range! If someone wanted a sport hybrid get the CR-Z, although it is a lot smaller so that may not work out.

In that case get the Golf diesel. Its probably more sport than this.

I don't think this car will do good.

 

you can thank the CAFE standards for cars like this... Manufactures are going to be pumping them out trying to get their average MPG up...

 

I just can't believe they just convenient use the hybrid system straight from the Prius without any changes. I think they should at least use the hybrid system from the Camry.

definitely a looker. gobs of street appeal...its not that expensive. you could get any color, and any interior trim at no extra charge, under 30k with destination, and, of course, a big tax incentive. CERTAINLY would rather have this than a prius.

What? Under 30K is the base car only. If you want leather you need to add 'Package C' at $3780 or 'Package D' at $6090. You can't even get Bluetooth till you opt for 'C' at minimum. Also, what tax break? I thought that Toyota has used up all their tax incentives or are you referring to something local?

Saw this on the street the other day.... I pointed it out and everyone in the car thought it looked hideous or at best, unattractive. I agreed with them. Someone commented (which echoes what I've heard in this thread and from other sources) that it looks like a Lexus Matrix.

I don't know what crowd they're aiming for, but if I had to guess they're aiming for the young 20s to mid 30s demographic. They missed the mark completely with us.

What is it supposed to look like? A hatchback? A wagon? A crossover? I'm lost. It's unique looking, that's for sure. That fat C-pillar throws me for a loop, looks like something that belongs on an SUV, not a hatch.

 

I've seen a few of them on the road....they look nice.

 

getting my IS serviced at the dealership, so i scheduled some test drives to keep myself occupied. the hybrid and the 400+ hp ISF seem to be of most interest across the lineup.

 

I just saw one the other day while I was looking for parking @ a mall. When I pointed it out, all of my passengers just said "meh"

The body style indicates they want younger buyers, but they don't exactly have the engine choices, luxury features, or drivetrain for them.

Another thing is, just from reading reviews and looking at a parked one, the rear seating area looks too small. Could they really not have stretched it another 2-3 inches?

I'd get one if it had ventilated seats, a V6, and something other than FWD.....

just got back from the dealership. apparently, they are sold out everywhere, and they sell immediately once they do come in.

the ISF drive sure as hell put a smile on my face tho.

 

^^ Word is that the demographic for this car (30-40 year olds) is not where this car is selling....the demographic for buyers is pushing +50 years old.

Interesting. It appears +50 years olds want a more useful 5 door hatchback hybrid....without the stigma of buying a "Prius".

Younger buyers are just not drawn to the low level of performance....looks nice, but it's a snooze fest to drive in terms of power.

It totally has a stigma...and while I really like the CT...the Prius has much more usable cargo space.

 

the dealer said it was 20 somethings that were buying them. same with the is250, which is equally as slow. but miami is not a good representative. i dont even consider this place the united states. the average cost of a car here is about in line with the average income. and in many situations, you cant even calculate that b/c a big chunk of luxury and exotic car owners have zero income.

 

I've seen this car several times already, all driven by 20-30 years olds.

I can totally picture this car being sold by those minicooper lovers who go to art schools, and those people who shop at whole food markets.

I think the CR-Z and this car share the same target demographic imo.

These people don't really care about the performance. There's ton of people who want to drive hybrid with some spices on top of it, and the CR-Z and this car fall into that category imo.

 

I've seen 2 of these so far, both driven by younger people (20's)

Nothing. I shop there too.

It's just that people who shop there tend be more concerned with environmental issues. Learned this crap when I was in college because the CEO of WFM came to our class and talked about this. lol

I go to WFM and Trade Joe's pretty often for work, and there are sooooooooo many Minicoopers, Prius, and other hybrid cars.

I have to agree with Sarlacc on this. There's one like 10 mins away from my place, and I don't like there for some reason.
