Land Rover, Gaydon, Warwickshire, November 10, 2010 – The exciting 5-Door version of the all-new Range Rover Evoque makes its global public debut at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show on November 17, 2010.

With its stylish and sporting appearance, enhanced by extra practicality and greater family appeal, the 5-Door Range Rover Evoque joins the stunning coupé model to create a highly desirable line-up that will transform the premium compact SUV segment.

Like the coupé, the 5-Door Range Rover Evoque remains faithful to the spirit of the groundbreaking Land Rover LRX concept car, offering an innovative new interpretation of the original cross-coupé design.

The 5-Door Evoque also stays true to the core values of the Range Rover brand, providing premium levels of craftsmanship, luxury, performance and renowned Land Rover all-terrain capability, but in a more compact package.

“The addition of the 5-Door to the Range Rover Evoque line-up extends the appeal of our brand still further,” said Land Rover’s Managing Director Phil Popham.

“While retaining everything that’s great about the Range Rover Evoque coupé, this new 5-Door bodystyle will offer customers even more choice, greater practicality, versatility and flexibility. The launch of the Evoque in 2011 will expand and revitalise the global appeal of the Range Rover marque."

Coupé style and 5-Door versatility

The 5-Door Range Rover Evoque offers an exciting new interpretation of the LRX concept car design, combining the dramatic stance and dynamic appeal of the original cross-coupé with the enhanced functionality offered by a 5-Door format.

“The 5-Door Range Rover Evoque has the same strong emotional appeal as the coupé, while offering the superior versatility of a family vehicle,” said Land Rover Design Director, Gerry McGovern.

“The key lines remain intact – the dramatic rising beltline, muscular shoulder running the length of the car, and the distinctive taper to the floating roofline – but with a slightly higher rear roof. The finished vehicle offers impressive levels of space and versatility whilst retaining the overall essence, visual robustness and jewel-like detailing of the coupé.”

The more capacious interior of the 5-Door Range Rover Evoque has not been achieved by enlarging the compact footprint of the coupé model: the overall length and width remain identical.

Like the coupé, smart design, meticulous engineering and clever packaging has ensured that the 5-Door Evoque delivers the core Range Rover values of luxury, refined performance and all-terrain capability while remaining true to the spirit of the LRX concept design.

Impeccably crafted luxury interior

Beneath its dramatic exterior, the 5-Door Range Rover Evoque provides customers with an impeccably crafted luxury cabin, incorporating the premium quality materials and elegant design expected of a Range Rover interior.

Gerry McGovern continued: “The strong, simple architecture of the cabin is evident with the bold intersection between the solid horizontal elements of the instrument panel and the powerful vertical lines of the centre console.”

Uniquely in the compact SUV segment, the Range Rover Evoque allows customers to specify a lavishly appointed cabin, with soft, premium leather and beautifully tailored, twin-needle stitching providing a luxurious finish to almost every surface of the instrument panel, doors and seats.

In bold contrast to the comforting aroma and supple feel of natural hides, authentic metal finishes provide a series of striking highlights. Cold to the touch and exquisitely crafted, the metal finishes are a tactile and visual reminder of the superior interior quality.

The instrument cluster, housed beneath a compact curved binnacle, adds to the sporty, premium feel of the interior. The twin dials have an attractive, three-dimensional form with chunky, illuminated chaplets and needles, and are set deep in circular housings finished with bright chrome rims.

Family comfort and versatility

Measuring 30mm taller than the coupé model, the 5-Door Range Rover Evoque adds further space and versatility to the luxurious cabin. Rear seat passengers benefit from over 50mm more shoulder room, along with generous headroom which compares very favourably to traditional sporting saloons.

A full-sized glass panoramic roof enhances the sensation of space and comfort by flooding the interior with natural light, and offers greater headroom for all occupants.

For growing families, the 5-Door Range Rover Evoque provides the versatility and luggage space of a compact station wagon.

The rear seats, with seat belts and head restraints for three passengers, have 60/40 folding seat squabs and are equipped with ISOFIX child seat mounts. When required, luggage capacity can be expanded to a substantial 1445 litres.

The driver adopts a lower seating position than in one of the larger Range Rovers, offering a more sporting feel but retaining the important Command Driving Position.

Dynamic handling and effortless, refined performance

Land Rover engineers have developed the 5-Door Range Rover Evoque to provide customers with a polished driving experience that combines dynamic and sporty handling with responsive, effortless performance and refinement.

Murray Dietsch, Director of Land Rover Programmes, said: “The 5-Door Range Rover Evoque has the same sporting character as the coupé. We have focused on ensuring that the car is agile and fun to drive, so that customers have a rewarding experience, even in day-to-day urban driving. Advanced technologies such as MagneRide™ mean we can ensure that this dynamic prowess does not come at the cost of top-quality refinement or comfort.”

The car can be specified with the sophisticated Adaptive Dynamics system which uses advanced MagneRide™ dampers to provide a particularly good balance of confident, nimble handling and supple, controlled ride. The suspension delivers even tighter body control, with flatter handling and sharper responses.

As a true Range Rover, the 5-Door Evoque delivers the all-weather, all-surface capability that is a hallmark of the brand. In common with its larger siblings, the new model provides formidable all-terrain potential, enhanced by the latest version of the company’s signature Terrain ResponseTM system.

The Evoque will be the first Range Rover to offer customers a choice between the standard, full-time, intelligent, four-wheel-drive system, which delivers outstanding performance and traction on all surfaces, and a low-carbon, two-wheel-drive option for further enhanced fuel economy.

The 5-Door Range Rover Evoque shares its smooth and responsive turbocharged powertrain line-up with the coupé model. Customers can choose from the comprehensively updated 2.2-litre turbodiesel with 190PS or 150PS derivatives. The front-wheel-drive version combined with the 150PS 2.2-litre engine achieves sub 135g/km* CO2.

The state-of-the-art new 240PS, 2.0-litre Si4 petrol engine combines direct fuel injection, turbocharging and twin variable valve timing for exceptional driveability and fuel efficiency, delivering 0-60 mph in 7.1 seconds*.

Murray Dietsch continued: “We have combined state-of-the-art powertrains with a lightweight bodyshell and a range of low-carbon technologies to deliver fuel efficiency which is outstanding for a premium SUV.”

Commitment to sustainability

With the same compact footprint and advanced technologies as the coupé model, the 5-Door Range Rover Evoque reinforces Land Rover’s commitment to environmental sustainability. The Evoque is positioned as the smallest, lightest, most fuel-efficient Range Rover ever.

The new car’s greener credentials stem from a comprehensive approach to reducing its environmental impact throughout the product lifecycle, from development and manufacturing, through to customer use and end-of-life recycling.

While the Evoque offers the premium luxury and performance customers expect from a Range Rover, it also demonstrates levels of efficiency and responsible design that make it one of the most sustainable cars in its class.

Key product innovations that drive its greener performance include:

• Compact size – at 4350 mm, the 5-Door Range Rover Evoque is 430 mm shorter than a Range Rover Sport
• Lightweight technologies – advanced materials used throughout the body and chassis
• Efficient powertrain – state-of-the-art petrol and diesel engines, with high-efficiency features such as direct injection and stop-start
• Low CO2 technologies – including electric power-assisted steering (EPAS), smart regenerative charging and optimised transmissions
• Availability of front-wheel-drive – reducing weight and minimising driveline losses
• Recycling and re-use – maximising use of sustainable and recycled materials, plus optimising end-of-life recyclability

The result is a Range Rover that sets new standards in the premium compact SUV segment for fuel economy and CO2 emissions, with the two-wheel-drive diesel 5-Door model capable of an exceptional sub 135g/km* CO2.

Distinctively Evoque

Land Rover designers and engineers have developed a host of distinctive and innovative features, to ensure the 5-Door Range Rover Evoque stands out from the crowd.

Lighting plays a big part in the Range Rover Evoque’s distinctive appeal. First to catch the eye is the powerful signature graphic in the front running lights, created by innovative LED light-blade technology. A similar graphic is repeated in the LED rear lights, with their jewel-like 3D petal design.

Approach the car at night and you will also see a bold vehicle graphic alongside the front doors, illuminated by the ‘puddle lights’ that shine from the mirrors.

More special touches greet you when you enter the car. The interior displays come to life with a choreographed animated start-up sequence, while the rotary auto shifter completes the ‘greeting’ as it rises silently into the driver’s hand.

LED ambient lighting provides sophisticated and precise illumination within the cabin; a range of colours can be chosen by the driver to suit their mood. Select Dynamic mode, however, and a sporting red colour scheme fills the interior as well as the instrument dials and cluster display.

Completing the range of features, the first panoramic roof ever fitted to a Range Rover can be specified, providing an all-round vista which helps to make every journey a special occasion.

The 5-Door Range Rover Evoque follows the coupé model by offering customers the choice of three main vehicle design themes, each of which has its own distinctive character, exterior treatment and carefully co-ordinated interior package. The three themes are:

• Pure – combining the stunning concept-car exterior with a stylish, clean interior in neutral colours to highlight the pure, simple forms of the cabin architecture. Soft-touch, wrapped materials on the major surfaces contrast with the real-metal brushed aluminium trim.

• Prestige – ultimate Range Rover luxury, combining a bespoke exterior that includes unique, 19-inch wheels and sparkling metallic details with an indulgent interior that is almost entirely leather-wrapped. Luxurious duo-tone colour schemes are embellished by premium leather, twin-needle stitching and real wood and metal finishes.

• Dynamic – bold exterior with 20-inch wheels and unique bumpers, sills, grille and tailpipes for a more assertive, confident stance. Contrasting roof and spoiler colour is a no-cost option, while the premium sports interior offers a darker environment with splashes of bright contrast colour, together with perforated leather seats and unique sports detailing.

Packed with premium technologies

Like the coupé model, the 5-Door Evoque benefits from the same comprehensive selection of the latest technologies as the larger Range Rovers, in terms of controls, connectivity, comfort and convenience for all occupants.

From the driving wheel, the Range Rover Evoque is distinguished by a carefully conceived system of controls and displays that combines a stylish, uncluttered layout, state-of-the-art functionality and class-leading ease of use.

At the heart of the control system is Range Rover’s much-acclaimed, eight-inch, high-definition touch-screen display with its crisp graphics and simple, intuitive menu structure. The display is available with the innovative dual-view technology, so that driver and passenger can view completely independent content.

Tech-savvy customers get the connectivity they demand with a comprehensive package that includes Bluetooth hands-free mobile phone use and audio streaming, plus a range of USB and auxiliary inputs for iPods and other portable devices.

The Evoque is the first Range Rover to offer breathtaking new sound systems developed in partnership with the high-end audio specialist Meridian. The premium Meridian offering is an 825W, 17-speaker system that delivers the ultimate in surround-sound performance.

Other features available to 5-Door Range Rover Evoque customers include:

• Park Assist for automated parallel parking
• Blind Spot Monitoring system
• Surround Camera System with five digital cameras, including a reversing system
• Full dual-zone automatic climate control, featuring a Park Heater timer facility
• Hard-drive navigation system
• DAB/FM/AM/Sirius tuners, with hard-drive virtual 10xCD multiplayer
• Digital and Satellite TV, and DVD playback
• Rear-seat entertainment package, with eight-inch video screens, digital wireless headphones and touch-screen remote control
• Keyless entry system and powered tailgate
• Adaptive headlamps with Automatic High Beam Assist
• Heated windscreen, front seats and steering wheel

Sold in 160 markets worldwide from summer 2011

Both coupé and 5-Door models of the Range Rover Evoque will be manufactured at Land Rover's multi award-winning Halewood plant in Merseyside, UK. The car will go on sale in more than 160 countries worldwide from summer 2011. Prices will start from £30,000/ 35,000E.

Phil Popham said: “The launch of the Range Rover Evoque is a significant step forward for the Range Rover brand. This groundbreaking car brings new excitement and relevance to the marque, but remains true to the values of premium luxury and performance that have made Range Rover such an enduring success story over the past 40 years.”

Land Rover just won a big honor from Motor Trend, and we predict it will be the first of many for the brands new, small, lightweight Evoque.

The car mag presented Land Rover executives with Sport/Utility of the Year for the new Evoque3. The Evoque is a high-styled SUV that we think will get plenty of other notice from other awards committees, too, before the season is over.

"It is a significant achievement for the Range Rover Evoque to be deemed the best new SUV on the market by Motor Trend," said Andy Goss, president of Jaguar Land Rover North America. "Our entire UK team, responsible for the engineering, design and build of this cutting edge luxury vehicle, was invaluable."

Land Rover describes the Evoke as "the smallest, lightest most fuel efficient Range Rover ever."

The The Range Rover Evoque will be available in two versions: a coupe and a five-door, with starting prices of $44,995* and $43,995*, respectively

Bigger Evoque planned for 2015

Autocar

Land Rover is planning a bigger Range Rover Evoque, fuelled in part by the success of the smaller car and the continuing growth being enjoyed by the brand.

The firm’s expansion involves proposals that would take it into new niches, finding favour over similar projects at sister brand Jaguar because the potential sales and profits are greater, according to insiders.

Growing sales of the BMW X and Audi Q models are also encouraging Land Rover to broaden its Range Rover sub-brand by developing a model to sit between the recently launched Evoque and the Range Rover Sport.

That gap is expected to widen as both the Range Rover Sport and the flagship Range Rover shift further upmarket with their upcoming renewal. Today’s most expensive Evoque costs £45,000, the least expensive Range Rover Sport £55,000. Land Rover’s planners are thought to be considering a price range of £35,000 to £55,000 for a Grand Evoque.

The vehicle itself is likely to be based on the same LR-MS architecture as the existing Evoque, which was developed from the Ford EU-CD platform that provides the foundation of the Freelander. The inherent packaging efficiency of this architecture is likely to yield a decently scaled cabin, particularly for rear-seat passengers.

In terms of a design theme, the starting point for the new model is believed to be a ‘Grand Evoque’, although Land Rover will be anxious to give the car a distinctive visual and functional character of its own, not least to limit sales cannibalisation from other models.

An underbody stretch of around 300mm would provide some of the increased accommodation, half the extra length let in between the axles, the rest allocated to the rear overhang and an enlarged boot. Land Rover might consider a third row of seats as an option, which could usefully widen the appeal of this mid-market Range Rover and provide a particular reason to buy it.

The powertrain line-up would most likely come from the new range of four-cylinder engines that Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is to develop for production at a new site in Wolverhampton. These are thought to include a 1.8-litre turbo petrol unit producing as much as 170bhp per litre, and diesels capable of punching out 133bhp per litre.

JLR’s hybrid development programme should also allow a twin-motor version of the Grand Evoque. Expect a higher percentage of lightweight materials in this car as JLR explores mixed structures as part of a weight-saving campaign that will play a vital part in satisfying tightening fuel economy requirements.

Due for launch by 2015, the Grand Evoque is likely to be built at Halewood alongside the regular Evoque, Freelander and new small Jaguar saloon, all of them built on variations of the same architecture. Deriving four models from this platform will potentially yield JLR profitable economies of scale that it has never before achieved, and will make this smaller family of cars a cornerstone of its business.

Uh...weird.

From Edmunds: http://blogs.insideline.com/straight...neva-show.html

Thanks to the Range Rover Evoque Convertible, the Nissan Murano is no longer alone in the compact luxury convertible segment. Finally.

This concept, like the Murano CrossCabriolet concept, was built to gauge consumer reaction to such a vehicle. Unlike the Murano, however, we can see people actually lining up for this one. Not that this mess is any prettier than the Nissan, but because it's a Range Rover (with 21-inch wheels) and not a Nissan. Sorry, but to the people who want a luxury convertible crossover, a Range Rover is more desirable than a Nissan.

To make the change, RR says it will need to add 165 pounds of strengthening material. When we tested an AWD model, it weighed 4,015 lbs. The Murano we tested tipped the scales at 4,420 lbs.

Range Rover says that they've currently built 50,000 Evoques and have orders in for an additional 60,000. Once they can start building these as fast as they can sell them, a convertible seems like a done deal.

Really! I think it is one of the best-looking CUV/SUVs in the market!

This and the current gen. Cayenne get my vote. If I had not bought the FX, I'd definitely be in either an Evoque or the Porsche.

The Range Rover Evoque created the premium compact SUV segment since going on sale in September 2011. Recipient of more than 100 international awards, the Evoque has been an unprecedented global success attracting a whole new group of customers to Land Rover.

Thanks to its unique combination of dramatic design underpinned by the brand's core credentials of capability and luxury, 70% of customers are new to the SUV segment and the Land Rover brand.

Personalisation has formed a key part of the Range Rover Evoque's appeal. Each of the three standard trim levels - Pure, Prestige and Dynamic - can be further individualised with a huge range of options from alloy wheel designs and contrasting roof colours to 16 'Designer Choice' interiors.

Now, Land Rover has extended the principle by offering an exclusively designed Range Rover Evoque Special Edition created as a result of a collaboration between Land Rover Design, led by Gerry McGovern with Victoria Beckham, winner of the coveted Designer Brand of the Year award at the 2011 British Fashion Awards.

Gerry McGovern, Director of Design, Land Rover explains: "The design of Evoque has truly captured the hearts of customers worldwide. Working with Victoria the intention was not to change the fundamental architecture and award winning design of the Range Rover Evoque. We wanted to create a Special Edition that extends its character in a new direction through understated, restrained colour and detail changes.

"Both Land Rover and Victoria Beckham are British luxury brands with credibility and global appeal, this dual 'Britishness' makes the collaboration even more exciting especially when considering the huge audience for bespoke products around the world, particularly in China, Russia and Brazil where Land Rover is growing".

Victoria Beckham said: "I was very excited to be working with Land Rover as I have an enormous amount of respect for the brand. I've always driven a Range Rover, for me they are the epitome of quality and luxury.

"For me you should feel luxury. My brand is known for quality and workmanship and so is Land Rover. So for me it felt like the perfect collaboration."

Post 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Convertible

Press release...

Land Rover has unveiled the world's first luxury compact SUV convertible. Range Rover Evoque Convertible combines the bold design and refinement of Evoque with comprehensive specification and a sophisticated folding roof to create a no compromise, all-season convertible.

The ground breaking and distinctive shape of the original Range Rover Evoque lends itself to an elegant convertible design and the new model sits at the pinnacle of the Evoque portfolio as the most exclusive and capable convertible in the world.

As the fifth member of the Range Rover family - and the first ever convertible - the highly desirable new model combines traditional Range Rover luxury with a distinctive four-seat design and versatile storage.

The Range Rover Evoque Convertible has been engineered to meet Land Rover's most rigorous standards, ensuring exceptional structural rigidity, trademark refinement, outstanding levels of safety and unrivalled breadth of capability.

Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Design Director and Chief Creative Officer, commented: "Range Rover Evoque Convertible is a vehicle for all seasons. Its uniquely distinctive design and world-class engineering adds another dimension to the Range Rover family, further enhancing its desirability and appeal."

The global SUV market is forecast to grow by 20 per cent over the next five years* and Evoque Convertible will play a key role in continuing Range Rover's 45-year success story, pioneering an all-new SUV sector.

Evoque Convertible's eye-catching exterior design is made possible by a sophisticated fabric roof shaped to create a crisply defined silhouette that remains faithful to the original design. Its Z-fold mechanism lays flush with the rear bodywork for a sleek, uncluttered appearance when lowered. The fabric roof is the longest and widest currently fitted to any vehicle on sale today.

The fully-automated roof stows in 18 seconds, and can be raised in 21 seconds, at speeds up to 30mph. When closed it provides high standards of refinement with a layer of acoustic insulation ensuring interior comfort on a par with five-door Evoque. In addition, the position of the roof doesn't affect loadspace, with a generous 251-litre boot offering unrivalled practicality for a convertible.

At the heart of the high-class cabin is an all-new, high-resolution 10.2-inch touchscreen with Jaguar Land Rover's next-generation infotainment system, InControl™ Touch Pro, which debuts in a Land Rover. Raising the standard of connectivity for the brand, the highly-responsive and super-fast InControl™ Touch Pro offers seamless smartphone integration, door-to-door navigation, 3G connectivity and a premium sound system.

Safety hasn't been overlooked with a Roll-Over Protection Device featuring deployable roll-over bars hidden in the rear bodywork. It deploys two aluminium bars within 90 milliseconds in the unlikely event of a roll-over situation to create a survival space for occupants.

Land Rover's full suite of lightweight, all-aluminium four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines is available with the potent 240PS Si4 petrol providing outstanding levels of performance and refinement.

Diesel power comes from Land Rover's 2.0-litre Ingenium engines which provide highly efficient and refined performance with fuel economy up to 55mpg (5.1 l/100km) and CO2 emissions as low as 149g/km.

Evoque Convertible is underpinned by Land Rover's world-class all-terrain capability, using the same advanced technologies as Evoque five-door and Coupé derivatives. A customary choice of four-wheel drive powertrains combines with Land Rover's nine-speed automatic transmission, Terrain Response® system, Wade Sensing and All-Terrain Progress Control to ensure Evoque is a convertible for all seasons.

The new Range Rover Evoque Convertible will be produced at Land Rover's Halewood plant in the UK, alongside the five door and Coupé bodystyles, and goes on sale across from Spring 2016 in more than 170 markets worldwide.

It already had poor rear headroom and a hard-to-access rear seat, now that's fixed.

Just wait until it rolls over.

But this sounds interesting:

Safety hasn't been overlooked with a Roll-Over Protection Device featuring deployable roll-over bars hidden in the rear bodywork. It deploys two aluminium bars within 90 milliseconds in the unlikely event of a roll-over situation to create a survival space for occupants.

New Range Rover Evoque has a charismatic, sophisticated character, with its reductive design now enhanced with the latest technologies and luxurious material choices for modern luxury clients.

Range Rover Evoque's reductive exterior presence is enhanced by a new grille and super-slim Pixel LED headlights with signature DRL, which deliver a technical, jewel-like appearance. New exterior accents and colours also complement the characteristic floating roof, unbroken waistline and the flush deployable door handles that define Range Rover's design DNA.

Inside, Range Rover's reductive design philosophy is amplified with a new 11.4-inch curved glass touchscreen, seemingly floating within the driver's eyeline for improved visibility, while liberating space for interior stowage and Wireless Device Charging. Powered by Pivi Pro, with regular Software Over The Air drops and built-in Amazon Alexa, the new centre console offers clients a seamless, comfortable digital experience.

The latest technologies and material innovations also promote wellbeing in the refreshed cabin, provided by one of the most sophisticated interior air quality technologies in its class - Cabin Air Purification Plus. Tactile material options include non-leather UltrafabricsTM and KvadratTM textile seats to provide a new dimension of modern luxury.

Geraldine Ingham, Managing Director, Range Rover, said: "The original compact luxury Range Rover for the city is even smarter and more sophisticated than its predecessor. The cabin is reductive and serene, with new materials and colourways for effortless luxury. A single curved glass interface and clean air technology allows clients to enjoy the calm and tranquility that is the hallmark of a Range Rover."

Clients have a choice of Evoque S, Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE and Autobiography models. The P300e plug-in electric hybrid enables clients to complete their average daily journeys in EV mode, with zero tailpipe emissions. It is capable of up to 62km (39 miles) of electric-only driving according to the WLTP cycle, with new battery chemistry ensuring improved real-world range of up to 48km (30 miles). Every P300e features rapid DC charging capability as standard, for fast top-ups. A further choice of Ingenium petrol and diesel Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) engines provide a comprehensive range of refined, fuel-efficient powertrain options.
