What a dumb idea. Why is Audi trying to not only compete against itself but bring down its own brands at the same time. It's like how maybach was planning on introducing a cheaper maybach at like 150-200k. There's already the s600 and s65.
These carmakers are getting stupid.

Why is a Lambo SUV a bad idea when Porsche has been so successful with the Cayenne? There are months that the Cayenne sells better than the entire 911 line of cars.

that's because it's a stupid idea.

exotic car companies should stick to what they are good at. besides the last thing we need is another SUV on the road.

I'd still take one of those today.. I'd rather drive around in that than the new concept.

Lamborghini SUV

A senior source at Lamborghini's parent company Audi in Ingolstadt, Germany, has confirmed reports suggesting that the Italian supercar maker is close to revealing a dramatically styled and luxuriously equipped SUV/crossover concept that previews its long-touted third model.
"I can't comment in detail but the speculation in the press is largely correct," an Audi manager revealed when questioned about reports outlining plans by Lamborghini to gauge public response to a successor to the famed LM002 with a new SUV concept.
Set to get its first public airing at the Beijing motor show in late April, the new SUV/crossover will extend the current Lamborghini lineup, joining the successor to today's Gallardo and the recently introduced Aventador in what will at least be a three-strong model lineup from Sant'Agata from 2016 onward. Lamborghini has not confirmed the reports.
An unprecedented fourth model--a low-slung four-door sedan previewed by the well-received Estoque concept first wheeled out at the 2008 Paris motor show--is also under consideration and, in the words of Autoweek's Ingolstadt sources, "shouldn't be ruled out as a further addition to the lineup should studies reveal there is a market for such a car."
Conceived as an upmarket rival for the likes of the Maserati Kubang, the BMW X6 and a similar four-door coupelike off-roader recently confirmed by Mercedes-Benz and likely to be called the MLC, the new Lamborghini SUV was conceived to sell in numbers of less than 1,500 annually, suggesting its price will be upwards of $200,000 in North America. Key markets for the new performance-orientated four-wheel drive are expected to be the United States and China.
Nothing is official at this early stage, but suggestions are that the 197-inch-long four-seater will go on sale with a detuned version of the Gallardo's 5.2-liter V10 engine developing in the region of 580 hp. Also envisaged is a hybrid version of the big four-wheel drive. It is said to combine the standard V10 with a 107-hp (80-kilowatt) electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack, providing a system output of somewhere near 660 hp.
Rumors suggesting that the successor to the LM002 could also be offered with a specially tuned version of Audi's new twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 and/or a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 common-rail diesel have been indirectly denied by Lamborghini chairman Stefan Winkelmann, who says Lamborghini will not adopt turbocharged engines of any kind this decade.
Known under the internal code name LB736, the new Lamborghini SUV/crossover is planned to share its underpinnings with the next-generation Audi Q7, which is also set to provide the basis for a new Bentley off-roader. The so-called MLB architecture will, in short-wheelbase form, also sit beneath successors to today's Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg.
Already undergoing intensive development at Audi, the future MLB structure is planned to undergo a dramatic weight-reduction program, with Ingolstadt officials suggesting savings of up to 880 pounds for the Q7 through the use of added aluminum and carbon fiber. The high-tech construction will be picked up by Lamborghini to ensure that its new SUV/crossover comes in at less than 4,400 pounds.
As with the current Q7, Cayenne and Touareg, the Lamborghini SUV is expected to be partly produced at the Volkswagen Group's factory in Bratislava, Slovakia, with final assembly taking place at Lamborghini's Sant'Agata plant near Modena, Italy.

Leaked Photos: Lamborghini SUV

Not sure if this belongs here or in the automotive news section. Move if needed.

The Lambo SUV will compete with the likes of the Bentley SUV and Maserati Kubang.

Here we go; just a day after hearing that Lamborghini could be heading to Geneva with a couple of new models we have 'leaked' images to share via inautonews, who took it from the pages of the Italian publication quattroroute.it.From the Italian headline it appears the image is of a four-door coupe, but from the image alone the concept looks more like an SUV. Whatever it turns out to be we'll apparently get a chance to check it out at the Beijing Motor Show, which runs from April 23rd to 24th.

In 2009, the stunning Estoque concept was touted to be headed for production, but given the profit potential of the SUV market this seems the more likely.Just as the Porsche Cayenne follows the lines of the 911, a Lamborghini SUV would likely follow the lines of the Aventador but with power coming from the Gallardo's 575hp V10.Lamborghini's first SUV, codenamed the LM002, evolved from a project to build a military vehicle for the USA, whereas a new SUV would almost certainly focus on combining luxury with sportiness to attract the uber-rich of the US, China, Russia and India.

The front looks sick, the back not so much. Reminds me too much of the BMW X6.

So they created a vehicle for a market that doesn't exist?

edit:
I guess there is a small market for something like this, but why spend the developing a vehicle like this that won't come close to being viable for the company?

Probably after Lamborghini stopped making the Lamborghini LM002, which used a 12-cylinder engine and was a real and bad-a@@ SUV.

As excited as I am for the release of this, I was really hoping to see the Estoque sedan concept from 2008 put into production.

It's not ruled out yet. Winkelmann did say shortly after its release that the project was going to be shelved in the mean time until the company thought it was time to release one.

I'm expecting them to be revealing the Aventador Roadster & either the Sesto Elemento or another Gallardo variant at Geneva. Would be great to see if they really do show off the Cabrera.

It will be not a X6M fighter: it will cost 250 000€... It's a super expensive SUV in a non existent category of super mega luxury suv... Next step will be the Bentley SUV for almost the same price of the Lambo and on the same platform of the Q7...

it looks pretty fricking damn hot.
"It had to happen - the Lamborghini SUV concept, the Urus, has leaked out thanks to Twitter.

British firm Bridford has uploaded photos of the new Lamborghini SUV to its Twitter feed, which is currently going viral. The photos are taken from the latest edition of Evo Magazine.

It shows the SUV concept painted in red, and gives us all a view of the definitive Lamborghini Styling. It's certainly bold, that's for sure.

Said to have a twin-turbo V8, the new SUV is capable of hitting 300kn/h. We also read that it's shorter in height than a Cayenne. As noted by Inside Line, The all-wheel-drive crossover could share underpinnings with the next-generation Porsche Cayenne, Audi A7 and Volkswagen Touareg, as well as the planned Bentley EXP 9 F.

Now that these photos are online, it'll only be a matter of time before the official photos are published." - teamspeed text

the brand "went" when it was acquired by Audi.

this is just a logical progression for them.

^^ I think VWAG can/will help Lambo produce better quality products, however what I dislike is the move to produce SUV's.....and possibly sedans.

I hate that Porsche does it, and I don't want to see Lamborghini do it.

I understand why they do it: $$$$$$$$$$$$

I think it's more along the lines of they need to be even more "profitable".

There is no need for them to compete with Audi, BMW, Porsche in the lux SUV segment. No need for them to compete with the sedan segment either.

They build supercars, and they are quite competitive with the competition in this segment.

Building SUV's and sedans just makes you more coin...and thus more profitable, and on a better footing.....just ask Porsche.

being competitive is pretty much always in the interest of being profitable, in terms of business.
