Recently we showed you pictures of Hyundai’s Elantra–based “JM” crossover. Now we have pictures of Kia’s version – known internally as the “KM.”

The KM will be introduced for the 2005 model year and is considered a replacement for the Sportage.

Measuring in smaller than the popular Santa Fe, the new KM is expected to be powered by a 2.0-liter four, with an optional 2.7-liter V-6 available as an option. Front-wheel drive will be standard, with an all-wheel-drive option available.

Sheetmetal changes separate Hyundai and Kia versions, which makes identification – even in camouflage – simple.

Redesigned Sportage to be unveiled in Paris - - By Monica Link - - Source: Automotive News / August 05, 2004

Kia Motors Corp. said it will begin production for North American models of the redesigned 2005 Sportage in late October. The new Sportage will be introduced at the Paris auto show in September, the company said Thursday.

North American models of the Sportage, set to go on sale in December, will come with a base 2.0-liter I4 engine, with an upgrade option of a 2.7-liter V6. European models have an added option of a 2.0-liter diesel engine.

It also has side curtain airbags, and folding rear seats as standard features. The company said it plans to produce 60,000 units for North America and 20,000 for Europe. Production for the European model will begin in early September.

10 times better than the old version

titan 08-06-2004 09:43 AM

:agree: Wowww, that thing looks great. Talk about Hyundai and Kia improving themselves by leaps and bounds. Except for the Equinox, that's the best looking cute-ute that's out there, and the interior looks great. With the quality issues being addressed, they'll sell a ton them. All they have to do is get their engines up to par. :bandito:

Yes those black plastic bumps that run along the side of the rear window remind me of the XC90, but the taillights look like an MDX

Don't see anything attractive about it.

Sportage Priced from $15,900 - - Source: The Car Connection

Kia's new Sportage SUV - the first Sportage to be sold in nearly three years - will cost $15,900 not including destination charges, the Korean automaker announced on Monday. The new Sportage slots in beneath the company's Sorento SUV, offering a package about the size of a Honda CR-V with a choice of either four- or six-cylinder engines. A four-wheel-drive system with a low range also can be ordered with the Sportage, as well as either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox. The Sportage 2WD model with the four-cylinder engine and no air conditioning stickers at the low base price; the four-wheel drive LX starts at $17,900, with the 4WD LX V-6 stickering at $18,500; and the upscale EX edition with four-wheel drive, the V-6 engine and luxury touches like a glass sunroof, will start from $19,999. Kia's five-year, 60,000-mile basic warranty is included in the price as is the 10-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

2011 Kia Sportage R Unveiled Ahead of Geneva Debut

This handsome-looking compact crossover is the next generation 2011 Kia Sportage R that will be unveiled to the public for the first time at the upcoming 2010 Geneva Motor Show in the beginning of March.

Penned under the guidance of former Audi designer Peter Schreyer, the new Sportage R carries the new Kia family look as seen on the Soul, Cadenza sedan and Sorento SUV, but it appears to have a more European flavor to it, with extra attention given to details.

The five-door crossover shares its platform with the also new Hyundai Tucson, known as the ix35 in Europe. It is longer and wider than the outgoing Sportage, something that should translate to improved cabin space.

We're still short on details about the engine range, but chances are that the 2011 Sportage will be offered with the same 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter four cylinder engines coupled to six-speed transmissions as the Tuscon in North America, while in Europe, it will most likely get the same 1.7-liter and 2.0 liter diesels, and 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter gasoline units as the iX35.

that's fucking awesome.

It's like he took the Saab 9-7x SUV and made 100x better.

Not a fan of that huge C pillar though.

Hope the LED taillights and projector headlights make it to production.

West6MT 03-01-2010 06:35 PM

That looks pretty good.

AsianRage 03-01-2010 06:36 PM

The proportions are so odd.

Moog-Type-S 03-01-2010 06:37 PM

meh...nothing new or exciting here.

Maybe but if you couch it by the history of Kia it's revolutionary :)

Caught up?

In that case, the CR-V must not be the ugly sheetmetal on wheels that it is.

yohan81718 03-02-2010 01:01 PM

what's that guy from audi's head designer at kia?? anyways, he's doing good job making kia's lineup follow the european's "family look"
i'm not sure if i like that idea, but yea.. this one looks like sorrento a lot.. just a tad bit smaller and what not

is300eater 10-11-2010 10:34 PM

I've mentioned in other threads about how much I'm liking this SUV/CUV...

Good lord, look at the difference between this and the old Sportage on up the page!!! What a difference 5 years makes!!!

is300eater 10-11-2010 11:52 PM

^^^I know... it's pretty much the same with the Sonata too...

fyi... they skipped a year on the Sportage to bring out the new style.
