That thing looks so good. I've seen this car in person many times when I went back to Korea and it has so much potential to be a great looking car.

Wouldn't Hyundai and Kia be better served by starting a new luxury line? Rather than double there resources by releasing the same cars? Not quite sure I agree with what they're doing.

Looks good except for the grille. The grille doesn't suit it.

I see a lot of the current-gen 5-series in the design.

I like Kia's bowtie grille. remember when they had those cookie cutter designs and one Kia looked nothing like another Kia, yet resembled every other car from luxury makers? at least Kias are now starting to look like...Kias.

i think the side ports are stupid.

Those LEDs in the headlight make the front end look weird.

can't believe all the comments, i think this thing is gorgeous and looks pretty original.

BMW did not invent that trunklid design!

Well, even though Kia is a subsidiary of Hyundai, they are still competitors in their own right.

They are talking about maybe making a Genesis luxury line though, so who knows?

Maybe. We'll have to see how they hold up after five years of use, which historically has been the strong suit of the Japanese big three. But Kia/Hyundai definitely came out of the gate stronger and faster than I've seen of any other automaker.

Honda/Acura should just try to copy 5 series too.

lol they would get so much shxt if they do that..........like then the 9th gen Accord concept came out, people complained that Honda simply copied the 8th gen design.....same as the Civic....the 5 series better looking than the old Civic and Accord...but I'm really not sure if people can accept Honda copying BMW...........then again it's worth a try...since most likely no matter what they do, there will be negative responses anyway.......

Those CGI rendering are awful and don't give an accurate view.

Some live shots.

Comparison of the fronts of the K9 and the BMW GT that many are comparing the K9 to.

The headlight shape has too much going on; would be better to lose the "kink" on the bottom (would look sleeker).

The taillights could use a break from all that red as well.

Agreed, the shape is a little "off" (as the Kia "tiger nose" design goes) and while vertical or horizontal grill slats are the standard on luxury sedans, the Kia "tiger nose" grill looks better w/ the hexagonal interlocking pattern that's on the Optima SX.

The seats and interior bits like the interior of the doors look to be nice than what's in the Genesis and Equus, but like the those 2, the K9 has a disappointing dash design which is just too "old fogey" and disjointed and not in tune w/ the sleeker sheetmetal.

You people need glasses? The KIA looks better then the BMW. IMHO, I wouldn't thunk BMW if I saw that in real life.
Those headlights look like missile launchers.

Funny you mention the LS since it has a greenhouse with the Hofemeister kink (more BMW-like than the K9) and a toned down "Bangle butt."

[tongue-in-cheek]Anyone want to wager on whether or not Kia makes a better '5-series' than BMW? I'm surprised that we haven't given the Optima benchmark status over the 3-series yet.[/tongue-in-cheek]

Kia is getting a luxury sedan -- and it sounds like it's coming to the U.S.

The South Korean maker is officially showing off its rear-wheel drive sedan, the Quoris, which is due to start showing up around the world by the end of the year. A Kia spokesman in South Korea, Michael Choo, says Kia's U.S. unit is yet to confirm its introduction here.

We'll take that as a "yes."

The Quoris appears to be Kia's version of the Hyundai Genesis, the main midsize luxury car of its sister brand. Many, including Drive On, didn't think that a value brand like Hyundai would be able to pull off selling a luxury car in the U.S. But the car was well received and it raised Hyundai's image.

Quoris is known as the K9 in South Korea. The tortured name is meant to be a mashup of the word's "core" and "quality."

"Derived from the English words 'core' and 'quality', the name of our new flagship sedan hints at the attributes at the very heart of the vehicle," commented T. "The word 'Quoris' conveys solidity, luxury and high-technology, all resonating together as a chorus.

"Our decision to give this striking new sedan an unconventional name means it will stand out even further from the established crowd, driving Kia sales in what is a new segment of the global automotive market for Kia," says Thomas Oh, a Kia executive vice president.

To help make it stand out, Quoris will have adaptive cruise control with an anti-collision feature that can stop the vehicle before it cracks up. It will also have cameras that can let the driver see all the way around the car.

Chorus...as in a song?

That being said.....Quoris > K9.

So now, both Hyundai and Kia have a better lux sedan than Honda/Acura.

The Koreans continue to step up their game.

Or is it more evidence of their stagnation? I forget.

I've always thought as
K5 (optima) is Kia version of Sonata
K7 (Cadenza, never came to US) is Kia version of Genesis
K9 (Quoris, sounds weird) is Kia version of Equus

I really don't know where Grandeur (Azera) belongs to.. but I love the new Azera
