What's New for 2015

The 2015 Jeep Renegade is an all-new model.
Introduction

Just when you thought the small SUV/crossover niche couldn't get any more crowded, along comes one of the funkiest new models from the staunchest defender of all that is rugged, muddy and squarely styled. The 2015 Jeep Renegade takes one of the most red-blooded of American brands into the realm of the ultra-compact crossover.

Its diminutive size is inherently cute (even if the design will polarize or flat-out repulse the Jeep faithful), but Jeep leaders in America have ensured that at least one version can withstand a dirty flogging on a mountain. Base models will be front-wheel drive, but full-time 4x4 ("Jeep Active Drive") will be available on all models. A rear axle that disconnects when not needed for traction promises improved fuel economy. The range-topping Trailhawk edition is built to endure serious off-road duty, featuring a taller ride height and clearance, 17-inch wheels, hill descent control and a 4WD system with lower gearing designed for slow scrambling up steep surfaces.

All 4WD models offer Selec-Terrain dynamic modes that optimize traction for snow, sand, mud and, on the Trailhawk, rock crawling.

The Jeep Renegade will offer a choice of four-cylinder engines: a turbocharged 1.4-liter rated at 160 horsepower or a larger, non-turbo 2.4-liter good for 184 hp. The smaller engine comes with only a six-speed manual transmission, while the 2.4-liter pairs with a nine-speed automatic, similar to that on the Jeep Cherokee.

At about 16 inches shorter and 2 inches narrower than the Cherokee, the Renegade becomes the smallest Jeep in the lineup. Still, it will offer many of the same features found on upper-level Jeeps, including a smartphone-integrated infotainment system with 5- and 6.5-inch touchscreens, a 7-inch configurable gauge display, and driver aids that include a rearview camera, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning and forward collision warning. The Renegade even borrows a cue from the Wrangler, allowing the outside in with dual sunroofs.

The 2015 Jeep Renegade will hit dealers in January of 2015. Jeep has not announced pricing, but the Renegade will compete with models ranging from the Kia Soul, which starts at around $15,700, to the Nissan Juke, with a base price of nearly $20,000.

Check back for a full review of the 2015 Jeep Renegade, including specs, driving impressions and buying advice as it becomes available.

That red looks a lot better than the puke green I saw initially, but it's just OK to me. Profile and front look decent, those rear lights are pretty bad though.

I hope it's a bit bigger than it looks in the pictures though, it screams Kia Soul from the side to me.

Dunno if I like it or hate it.

Parts of it are cool, others...not so much.

Need to see more real world pics.

The interior is actually very nice looking.

The exterior is too effeminate and tonka truck looking. Not really a fan of that.

But, I hope the vehicle is a hit because I want jeep to continue succeeding and knocking home runs with their other vehicles.

No, its because wagons just don't sell well over here, you know that.

I would love see some of the euro wagons hit our shores...but knowing our public...they'll all be dismal failures.

Post 2014 Jeep Renegade Zi You Xia Concept

Press release...

Following its world premiere appearances at the 2014 Geneva and New York auto shows, the all-new Jeep Renegade now debuts as a special design concept in Beijing. Zi You Xia, which means “rebel”, is a new concept that highlights a more sophisticated aspect of the Renegade’s personality.

Inspired by the colors of the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, the concept is finished in a Warm Chocolate Gray with a contrasting Dark Anodized Bronze color accentuating the grille throats, front fog lamp bezels, rear lower fascia, skidplate, tail lamp insert bezel and badging.

The roof panel, grille surrounds and door mirror caps are painted a Dark Charcoal to provide harmonious accents and a more premium appearance throughout. Unique 20-inch, Dark Anodized Bronze alloy wheels contribute additional visual flair as well as hinting at the vehicle’s outstanding on-road and off-road driving dynamics.

The interior of the concept boasts an energetic ambience with rugged and functional details crafted in high quality materials. The Piano Black color is accompanied by grey A-pillars and headliner. The air vents, speaker bezel, gear shifter, steering wheel bezels, cup holder and door release handles are finished in an Anodized Copper, reflecting the metallic color common in sports equipment. The rich brown leather upholstery on the seats and door panels feature ‘ombre’ grey/black plaid fabric inserts, that were inspired by traditional menswear suiting and tailored patterns, adding just the right touch of sophistication to the sporty Zi You Xia.

True to the Jeep brand’s heritage, the all-new Renegade is the most capable small SUV and the first in the world to offer a nine-speed automatic transmission. Designed for global markets and manufactured with up to 16 powertrain combinations – the most ever in a Jeep vehicle – it has been engineered to meet the specific requirements of customers all around the world.

https://www.autoblog.com/2018/06/20/...#slide-7359167

A few weeks back, we got our first glimpse of the refreshed 2019 Jeep Renegade. The Italian-built compact crossover is currently the smallest model in Jeep's lineup. Details were scarce, but we now have some new info on the European-spec model as well as a whole batch of photos of both the Renegade Limited and Renegade Trailhawk.

Visually, both the Limited and Trailhawk models get revised front fascias with dark LED and Xenon lighting that mimics the new Jeep Wrangler JL. The Limited's bumper includes more body-color panels with new turn signals, fog lights and a lower air intake. Outside of the new lighting, the only real change to the front of the Trailhawk is the lack of a bright red front tow hook. In the rear, both models get new taillights, though the bumpers appear to be the same. The Renegade Limited now comes with 19-inch wheels.

The Renegade now has new gasoline and diesel engines, though it's unclear which — if any — will make it to the U.S. market. There's a 1.0-liter turbo inline-three that makes 120 horsepower, a 1.3-liter turbo inline-four that makes either 150 or 180 horsepower. That makes it as powerful as the 2.4-liter naturally-aspirated inline-four that's currently available. The 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter turbo diesel engines — not available in the U.S. — both get updated European emissions equipment. There are three transmissions: a six-speed manual, a six-speed dry dual-clutch and a nine-speed auto.

The Renegade is still available with both front- and four-wheel drive. There are two four-wheel drive systems, with one slightly more sophisticated system reserved for the Trailhawk. Other carryovers include the removable My Sky roof panels and most of the interior. The Renegade also gets the latest version of FCA's UConnect infotainment system that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Pricing hasn't been announced, but look for U.S.-specific details sometime later this summer.

https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/2...ade-refreshed/

We may have seen it overseas several months ago, but it's only now that Jeep is finally pulling the covers off the refreshed US-market 2019 Renegade. In addition to a mild visual update, the Jeep Renegade gets a new turbo engine option with more power.

On the outside, visual changes for the 2019 Jeep Renegade include new fascias with relocated foglights, as well as new taillights, new wheel designs and newly optional LED headlights. Inside, the graphics for the instrument cluster have been tweaked, too. There are also some new exterior color choices.

The big powertrain change is that the old Renegade's optional 1.4-liter turbo engine has been replaced by a 1.3-liter version. The new engine offers up 177 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque, which beats the old 1.4-liter by 17 horsepower and 16 pound-feet. It's optional on the Sport and Latitude trim levels and standard on the Limited and Trailhawk. This engine also adds engine stop-start and active grille shutters (except on the Trailhawk) for further fuel-economy improvements.

The 1.3-liter engine should be slightly more fuel efficient than its predecessor, but we don't have any EPA numbers just yet. The outgoing Renegade's 1.4-liter engine returned 24 miles per gallon city and 31 mpg highway. Interestingly, this powertrain change doesn't apply to the Renegade's sibling, the Fiat 500X, which continues to offer the 1.4-liter engine for the 2019 model year.

The Renegade's base engine is unchanged. It's a 2.4-liter inline-four rated for 180 horsepower and 175 pound-feet. Both engines are mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission and can be equipped with either front- or all-wheel drive.

Other changes for the 2019 Renegade include the addition of adaptive cruise control, front parking sensors and self-parking technology to the Advanced Tech Group package. Pricing for the new Jeep Renegade has not yet been announced.

https://jalopnik.com/jeeps-first-hyb...mil-1844446970

Earlier this year at the CES show, Jeep showed off a range of upcoming plug-in hybrid models, including the Wrangler. The first of those Jeeps badged ‘four by e’—namely the Renegade 4Xe and the Compass 4Xe,—are now available to order in mainland Europe. Both models offer up to 240 horsepower, and an average of 31 miles per charge in EV-only mode. Jeep says the 4Xe models are significantly more capable off-road than their gasoline-only counterparts.

The Compass and Renegade benefit from the same
traditional 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline 4-cylinder engine up front, which is available in either 130 or 180 horsepower trim. That engine only powers the front wheels. In order to get the Jeep-standard four-driven-wheels, the 4Xe employs arear-axle-mounted electric motor to provide 60 horsepower. The rear axle is quoted at around 185 lb-ft of torque, while the front axle produces an even 200 lb-ft.

It also appears that the 4Xe models will have a mild belted alternator starter motor on the front axle which doesn’t add any quoted power, but should assist with steady-state cruising and light throttle acceleration. This type of system is best described as a large alternator, and acts as a front-axle high-voltage generator. This is how Jeep describes it, “T
he [electric motor] on the front axle, is connected to the internal combustion engine and, in addition to operating in synergy with it, it can act as a high voltage generator if necessary.”

The electric drivetrain is not connected to the ICE drivetrain, this
configuration is known as “through-the-road series hybrid”. Thanks to an 11.4 kWh battery, Jeep claims either model can drive in electric-only mode up to 31 miles per charge. This battery is held in a protective case under the rear seats. Because of this position, Jeep claims the rear cargo capacities of both models remain largely unchanged, and the spare tire is still mounted under the rear cargo where it is in the ICE versions of these Jeeps.

FCA have deemed Europe as the ideal place to launch this new PHEV line of Jeep models. The reasoning behind this is threefold,
because it desperately needs a reduced corporate emissions average, because the vehicles are built at the Lucano plant in Italy, and because Europeans are serious about jumping on the electrified vehicles train.

In keeping
with the rest of the European Renegade and Compass lineups, the 4Xe versions will be available in Limited, S, and Trailhawk trims. If you want something more upscale (for a Jeep anyway), Compass buyers can select the Business trim. Unlike the gasoline-only version, however, the 4Xe will all be four-wheel drive with Jeep’s new eAWD system and 6-speed automatic transmissions.

An interesting new mode found in the Jeep 4Xe models is “E-Save”, which is particularly important for European markets. This allows the driver to charge the Jeep overnight and drive only on the gasoline engine in order to preserve the electric range of the vehicle. There are many European cities, London for example, which charge an extra fee for any vehicles not running on electric power. You could theoretically plan a journey to London, arrive with a full battery, and putter around the city on full EV without paying the full congestion tax.

Within E-Save mode, you can choose to maintain the level of battery you have, or you can select a level of battery that you would like to recharge up to through regenerative braking or the BAS motor on the front axle. This is an interesting and versatile way of thinking that I hope makes it to all PHEV models in the future.

While I don’t know a lot of Renegade or Compass owners who typically go off-roading, the new 4Xe versions
look quite capable off-road. The Trailhawk 4Xe for example, has about 50 percent more available torque than even the turbodiesel version does. And with a completely detached front and rear axle, the two ends of the car can act independently from each other, allowing more management of where the torque is delivered. Add this to Jeep’s Selec-Terrain traction control system and “locking” 4WD, and it’s plausible the 4Xe could go farther into the great outdoors while causing less damage to the environment from emissions.

We don’t yet know if these specs will carry over when the Compass 4Xe and Renegade 4Xe find their way to the U.S. market, or what the official range numbers will be when these hit the EPA test, or how much the damn thing will cost, but as soon as we know, we’ll make sure you know.

Jeep has been testing the updated Renegade since last year. Our spies first caught the prototype in September 2021, with reports pointing to a scheduled debut in the US this year. However, the 2022 Renagade was leaked in a video, forcing Jeep Brazil to officially reveal the small crossover in a set of photos. While the Renegade here is bound for South America, you can treat this as a preview of what's to come stateside.

Upfront, the Renegade facelift gets a narrower grille than the outgoing model. Turn signals and DRLs are now integrated into the headlights. This allowed Jeep to alter the fascia, particularly on the lower part. The fog lights also get a new rectangular shape and are now positioned higher than before.

At the rear, the LED taillight graphics have been changed on the facelifted model. The bumper also gets a redesign, getting an enlarged faux skid plate and narrower lights at the corners.

The cabin was shown in the leaked video, revealing a slight redesign. While the dashboard layout of the outgoing model remains intact, the Renegade gets an updated steering wheel from the Jeep Compass. It also gained a 7-inch fully digital instrument panel, as well as an 8.4-inch infotainment screen. We have yet to learn whether it will have the updated software but we won't be surprised if it does.

There isn't much information under the hood except that Brazil will do away with the diesel-powered option in the updated model. The 1.3-liter Turboflex T270 engine will also make its debut in the crossover, supposed to make 185 horsepower (137 kilowatts) when fueled with ethanol. It’ll be front-wheel-drive with a six-speed manual gearbox in its most basic form.

The 2022 Jeep Renegade is slated to debut in the South American market between January and February. US debut is bound to happen this year as well, though we have yet to hear exactly when.

One of our HR employees had a Renegade for a while (Sport, I think)
Only drove it at parking lot speeds, moving it out of our warehouse for her, but it wasn't bad.
She's got a base Cooper 5-door now.

The Trailhawk doesn't look too bad, just likely too much $$ for what it is.

There is zero reason to get a TH Renegade. I've seen them do some cool things and go to some cool places but lets be honest, how many people are actually going to do that with a Renegade?

It's a number likely <1%

The current TH Renegade starts at $31k & options up to about $34k
It'd be a stripper, but you could probably get into a JLU for that.
JLU Sport $33k Willys Sport $35k. But, those are bare bones spec.

I wouldn't be cross shopping a Renegade with a Wrangler, they are totally different. If you want to off road, going used is the best bet. A renegade TH is for the mall crawler, faux off road people. There are some that do it and that's awesome but I bet you're right that the percentage is less than 1%.

This Jeep was a star of Stellantis’ “Dare Forward 2030” presentation earlier this year. It was one of the only cars to sneak out during the press conference that saw Carlos Tavares illustrate what the company’s future would look like. It’s an electrified one that will see every Stellantis brand participate, including Jeep.

It’s that Jeep that’s in a new batch of spy shots. They show off the crossover without camouflage, revealing what’s known as the “baby Renegade.”

All Jeep

While we’re calling it the “baby Renegade,” it seems to hardly resemble it. The crossover receives unique styling, renouncing the Renegade’s boxiness for smoother rear-end styling similar to the Compass. However, the typical Jeep features are all there, starting with the iconic grille that adopts new styling. But instead of seven slots, the grille features seven closed-off rings because the new Jeep is an EV.

It will be the first purpose-built pure-electric Jeep. There has been no official confirmation, but the new Jeep should ride on PSA Group’s e-CMP platform. The new Jeep will lead to similar models at Alfa Romeo and Fiat. Stellantis will build the three at its Polish plant in Tychy.

This is a real revolution for Jeep and will help the brand expand into more market segments with a brand-new powertrain. Evs will supplant classic gas-powered cars throughout Jeep’s range, including the Wrangler.

The Details

Of course, the photos don’t make it easy to estimate the precise size of the new Jeep SUV. It’s expected to measure around 4.10 to 4.15 meters (161.4 to 163.3 inches) long. This is smaller than the 4.23-meter-long (166.6-inch-long) Renegade and will help avoid having one cannibalize the sales of the other.

The new Jeep should be affordable. There is the possibility Jeep might offer the new model with a pure gasoline engine or a hybrid setup. However, this is speculation, and we will have to wait for the official presentation for a definite answer.

The Jeep’s electric powertrain should be the same as the one found in the Peugeot 2008, DS 3 Crossback, and Opel Mokka. This would be the 100-kilowatt (136-horsepower) electric motor with a 50-kilowatt-hour battery pack that allows for more than 300 kilometers (482 miles) of range.

When Does It Arrive?

The new Jeep could go on sale as soon as the first half of 2023 or in late 2022. The automaker could reveal it before the end of this year, which will set the stage for Jeep to launch two more battery-powered models by 2025.

^ the author is dyslexic or can't do math - 300km is about 190 mi (not 482), which is probably about right out of a 50kwh battery pack for that type of vehicle.

The Renegade will not make it as a 2024 model in the United States and Canada. The crossover is, until the end of 2023, the brand’s entry-level. It currently starts at $28,445.

For the money, customers get the Latitude trim, which brings the vehicle in white (the only paintwork which does not involve any cost), 17-inch aluminum wheels, and four-wheel drive. There are cloth bucket seats on board, while drivers get the Uconnect 4C NAV displayed on an 8.4-inch touchscreen.

The model is powered by a 1.3-liter turbo engine, capable of delivering 177 horsepower (179 PS) and 210 lb-ft (284 Nm) to all four wheels. The power unit is linked to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

But those seem not to be enough for the American market. The demand has been decreasing every year since 2016. Over 106,000 customers went for the Renegade that year, with the numbers going to little over 103,000 in 2017.

The pandemic hit in 2020, and the figures instantly got worse, reaching as low as 62,847. But there was obviously no growth potential for the Renegade, so Jeep only sold 15,561 examples from January to November 2023, which would make it the worst year ever in the history of the model.US annual sales:
  • 2016 - 106,605
  • 2017 - 103,434
  • 2018 - 97,062
  • 2019 - 76,886
  • 2020 - 62,847
  • 2021 - 47,138
  • 2022 - 27,551
  • 2023 - 15,561

With the smallest of the Jeeps gone after a nine-year stint on the market in the US, the Compass is going to play the part of the entry-level model. Surprisingly, back in 2015, after the arrival of the Renegade, it was rumored that the Compass would be discontinued together with the Patriot. Only the Patriot vanished from the carmaker’s lineup, with the Compass living to see another generation, its second, in 2017.

Jeep introduced the Renegade in 2014. The subcompact crossover came with the tag of a budget high-ride model, which was underpinned by the same architecture the Fiat 500X and Fiat 500L were built on. The three of them for the American market rolled off the same assembly line in Melfi, Italy.

Jeep America ditches the Renegade, as reported by Automotive News (requires subscription), but it will live on in other markets such as Europe, China, and South America. The carmaker also builds the vehicle in Goiana, Brazil, and in Guangzhou, China, as the brand’s first model to be wholly assembled outside the US and imported into the country. This might be one of the reasons customers have lost faith in the model over the years, despite the fact that the segment has been growing.
