It's loosely based on the Dodge Dart/Alfa Giulietta, so that makes the Cherokee yet another car-based crossover.
The car is almost certain to have a 3.2 V6 instead of the 3.6, for better wheel travel and gas mileage. Export cars will get the current 2-liter four-cylinder diesel. Four cylinders are likely to be a Tiger Shark 2.4, and the 1.4 liter Fiat turbo as a gas-mileage king; there might be a single four-cylinder to simplify production and reduce engineering costs, but it now appears that the Cherokee will be a V6 only, at least in the United States. If gas prices rise, the VM 3.0 V6 diesel could be installed at a later date.

Just saw some better pics.
The jury will be out until I see it in person...its very un-jeep like in the photos...but it does kind of carry that euro-feel that the new rav4 and ford escape have.
I wouldn't say I'm in love, thats for sure. It lacks the muscularity that jeeps are known for.

Looks god awful in the first couple pics, but the blue version looks better. This is going to take a lot of getting used to, especially since the current version looks so good.

This is a disaster! I will be curious to see how long it will be before the MMC....Can you do a MMC before the 1st vehicle is ever sold?
The front could be easily fixed by removing the top set of lights (leaving the bottom two) and fixing that grill that is kinked in two....That makes the Shield look like a girl on Bay Watch compared to this....The side views with a light color is just HIDEOUS

Good to see that the designer of the Isuzu Vehicross found gainful employment in this current job marketplace.

oh dear, this is a bit edgy huh? I kind of can't believe they had the nuts to change it this radically. I don't like it all, but honestly don't really care.. However, if they do this to the wrangler, Jeep will be dead to me.

TBH I think Jeep could've kept the Cherokee's boxy body style and it would still sell. it's a classic design. As nice as the Grand Cherokee is, it's expensive and bigger than some people want an SUV to me. So they're def taking a huge gamble with this design. Will it sell? I don't think so. But as long as the mechanics are good, the interior is updated and it's heavily discounted, they got me hooked.

I foresee this car selling better than the liberty.
I dont know, it'll be interesting to see.

How well is this 4runner selling?
It's probably too big and in a shrinking portion of the market (body-on-frame SUV) but I like it more than the previous gen.

The 4Runner as a whole is a very popular SUV around the world as well. Also, I am a biased owner.

agree, the trail edition is something fierce.
but it's too big for my 5'8" frame, I look silly in anything other than a compact SUV. I wish they would downsize the off road capable SUVs, something the size of the original Cherokee for example.

DETROIT -- Chrysler Group revealed photographs and the name of its replacement for the Jeep Liberty on Friday after photographs of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee showed up on auto enthusiast Web sites earlier in the day.
The automaker had hoped to keep the mid-sized SUV -- and its name -- secret until a planned reveal at the New York auto show next month. However, photos of several 2014 Cherokees taken during pre-production at Chrysler's Toledo North Assembly plant were unveiled Friday morning on the site Jalopnik.com.
The automaker released few details today in revealing the name, but included four official photos of the new vehicle and said it will begin arriving in dealerships in the third quarter.
Automotive News has previously reported that the Cherokee would be powered by a 3.2-liter V-6 engine based on Chrysler's 3.6-liter Pentastar engine, as well as an all-new 9-speed front-wheel-drive automatic transmission designed by ZF Friedrichshafen.
The Cherokee is scheduled to go into production in May.
Online reaction to the leaked photographs was less than stellar. Late this afternoon, Ralph Gilles, Chrysler's head of design, tweeted "have faith" to a Jeep enthusiast who had expressed disappointment with the design.
"We are shifting some paradigms around... it is time," Gilles tweeted.

Still going to take some getting used to, but since I was never really a fan of the old Liberty, I would actually say this is an improvement.

It's funny, those pics make the Juke look dated. Jeep adopting Nissan's design would be like Lamborghini making an SUV, thank god that didn't happen. ... .. oh wait, fu$% you Lambo

Looks like an uglier version of the Escape.
Meh.... Maybe it looks better in person, but the pictures in the original post make me think it doesn't. I think the biggest problem is it just doesn't fit the Jeep name whatsoever. That being said, it would still look ugly under a different brand. lol
