Dear 001,

I just got an email form a friend of mine at Lexus who told me that Infiniti will be entering the Hybrid SUV market and have a competing vehicle to the upcoming Lexus RX400h.

They told me that it will be dropped into the FX platform (FX45h?).

And the best part is they are buying the hybrid technology from Toyota/Lexus.

(They're will also unveil a hybrid Altima as part of the same deal).

Auto Spies perspective: What a great strategy by Toyota/Lexus! Sell the technology to other manufacturers, which cuts your production costs so you can have the highest profit margin cars AND bring down the price of hybrids, in the marketplace.

thats good news. except the hybrid technology they bought is their old tech (1st gen prius) so they probably wont match toyota

Really? I thought Nissan was buying the lastest and greatest. Still, they've got to do something. Hybrid demand can't be ignored, and this is great news. I just wish Nissan was on top of things 10 yrs ago and playing around with this tech then, so it'd have it's own tech.

Toyota isn't trying to give itself competition. Of course they won't sell Nissan the latest tech, and even if they did, by the time Nissan releases their version, Toyota's done more research and is ahead of the game.

Also, Nissan couldn't have been doing all this research 10 years ago cause it had more important things to do... like not go under.

I think its bullshit that hybrids have gotten so much attention instead of just switching over to low sulfur diesel and advanced diesel engines, hmm, lets see. What could make a larger impact now and in the future, diesel or hybrid? Well europe already has the diesels from multiple companies that could be implemented in the us right now, yet american companies have to leach off toyota for battery power in the usa cause we are somehow unable to get the same diesel quality as europe, just unpossible. Whats going to happen in 15 years when ~10 batteries from each car have to be dumped somewhere? So rediculous, meanwhile ford and gm european companies move on using diesel engines.

Well, whether the use is hybrids or diesels, something's going to have to come to the U.S. market wide spread soon. I don't have any problems with diesels.

I'm not too big on the similar steering wheel in my Murano (although it doesnt detract much from it) and do prefer the conventional style in my 02 Maxima.

i like infiniti, they've stepped it up and responded to their critics saying the exterior on their cars is nice, but the interior is cheap. they've made it better, but i wish they used blue/white gauges instead of orange, which is the only thing i wish they changed.

The new one doesn't have THAT much less buttons, it just LOOKS that way. I think the pseudo-iDrive knob took over some functions.
